Oh no! Until recently that was my parish. How terrible!!! Fr. Frank is a very nice man.
Thanks for letting us know. Praying.

Hmm…I was reading the link provided…seems like the other church that was vandalized was also Catholic and a statue of our Blessed Mother vandalized also…the cops don’t think they are connected but as Catholics we would have to wonder if someone has a problem with the Catholic Church or our Blessed Mother…it does seem more than random chance.

It did seem all the vandalized statues were of Mary. With those “church invasion” stories that came out in the last few months out of Nevada and Texas those guys disrupting masses seemed very focused on Mary (and indeed many similar preachers with anti-Catholic rhetoric are also seemingly obsessed with Mary, or more accurately with the Catholic views on Mary). I wonder if this could be related at all, if not directly then in theological reasoning in that they see statues as idolatry. Particularly seeing as they attacked more than one statue at more than one location.

It looked to me that they were the statues of Mary, our Lady of Grace, then the hands on the statues of Mary and John at the foot of the cross scene.

Or even more accurately with the “perceived” Catholic views on Mary…sadly it is lack of understanding the role of Mary in the Catholic faith that leads some to call Catholics idol worshippers…then again some Catholics do seem to focus a great deal on Mary which makes many Protestants uneasy that Jesus appears to take a second place role…so you may be right in saying that it could be more to do with theological reasoning that causes this type of vandalism

It is rather ironic that the many Protestant people who believe that Catholics are sexist because there are no female Priests Bishops or Popes, feel so threatened by the respect that Catholics have for a woman, Mary. (Not to mention the numerous Saints like my personal favorite, Theresa of Avila) Maybe I will understand this paradox someday. Until that day,

those are good points. this type of vandalism saddens me greatly. 😦

Perhaps a Satanist or more than one Satanist may have done this.

I would highly doubt it. Given recent trends it seems far more likely to have been a self professed Christian who did this than either of the two major types of Satanist. The more traditional devil worshipper would more than likely try to stay under the radar. And the Church of Satan/LeVeryan type of Satanist typically don’t have anything against the RCC or the Virgin Mary with enough specificity to target statues of Mary. Unfortunately many self professed Christians however do have big issues with the RCC, and specifically with the RCC views/treatment of the Virgin Mary as well as the RCC’s position on statuary and icons which they see as all being grievous violations of the 1st commandment. Another possibility of course could be an aniconic Muslim who objects to other religions using statues as well.

I mean I’m not saying it couldn’t be a traditional Satanist (ie: Devil worshiper) who did this, but the odds are much higher it was either a Christian or some other anti-idolatry religious group (such as Muslims) that did this.

well not long ago in Oklahoma City a Satanist let a rally where theatrical blood was poured over a statue of the Virgin Mary in front of a Catholic church or Cathedral. I am not saying it was a Satanist or a Muslim or a Christian or Jew but I do remember this one incident in OKC. I wish they had security cameras.
