Happily Catholic,
Just footnoting that this is the Gospel of John Chapter 20 and the absolute beginning of the need for Confession. Seller1: The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, not Christ on earth.
Many disenchanted Catholics leave the Church because they can’t face Confession. That makes Confession pretty awesome. They find an opportunity from certain protestant churches that tell them they only have to confess directly to God. Well, that certainly makes it forever easier.
Non-Catholics have never experience the unbearable weight that comes off one’s shoulders when you trust in Christ decision to go to Confession the way He says one should.
It takes trust in Christ and a whole lot of guts, to boot, to get into a Confessional and take responsibility of some terrible sins: I must own the sin as my choice for committing it, I must ask Jesus for forgiveness, and I must repent of these sins. If I weillfully choose to lie about anything in the Confessional, regardless of the priest’s absolution, all of my sins remain.
Going to confession often helps prevent me from committing sins of death in the first place because I don’t allow these horrible thoughts to crawl around in my mind long enough to make the sinful thought turn into a sinful act. Lord, thank you for the Sacraments of Confession and Pennance.
Bit off track , but I juste wanted to mention it.
May God guide us all always
