I don’t know how a suicide could be declared so quickly, yet no evidence a any suicidal mindset.

Why would a newly ordained Catholic priest commit SUICIDE???
There’s a ton of reason’s he could have committed suicide. Most suicides don’t take too long to figure out.

It is indeed sad when someone commits suicide. Usually there is only one reason that a person commits suicide: depressive illness. Depression can hit anyone no matter what their walk of life. A person with depression may have suicidal feelings for a long period of time before they ever act on it. Depressive illness can overwhelm a person so that they don’t feel like life is worth living. It’s a very serious illness and unless a person gets help, they can die.

All we can do is pray for that priest.

In one article it says he was 29 when ordained, and he died when he was 32. That time span is significant, anything can happen. Family death, time of despair, etc. Not to mention that the article didnt say much, so we cant really tell. Unless TNT you know something the police dont?

I only see inconsistency. I will take it on myself to follow the story periodically and post any new details.
The last news item indicated “neurological problems” in the past…whatever that means.
It is amazing to me that he had a gun and ammo in his office in his own hometown. It did not say a hunting rifle. Why would a priest pack a loaded weapon?

Lots of people keep guns—even if they’re not hunters. There’s a thing called the Second Amendment that allows people to do that.

I can understand why you are struggling with the story though. Every suicide is troublesome. To an outside observer, every suicide makes little sense. That’s why it’s so important that mental illness be diagnosed and treated. Often it is hidden or left untreated. Suicide is often the result.

Speaking of troublesome, do you have anything to do with this?

Interesting. We in the Superior Diocese of Wiasconsin just lost ( about a year ago) a young priest about this same age. He had been an assistant in our parish and had moved on to a new assignment up North. Some friends from town here visited him fairly often. He was a good and orthodox priest. Liked the kids at school and was active with many of our young married. One Sunday morning before mass he didn’t show up and the visiting friends who had supper with him the night before found him hanging in the passageway between the church and the rectory. It was hard on the young kids who really loved and admired him and on the friends who found him hanging. Apparently no one but his doctor knew he suffered from depression. Sad, sad, sad!

I knew of a priest who’s parish was in a not too safe section of town. There had been a number of break-ins and attempted break-ins at both the church and the rectory. Calls to ‘911’ often took more than an hour for someone to respond if you were able to reach an operator in the first place and not placed on hold for several minutes.

The pastor purchased a few handguns to protect self and church. Even wore one under his vestments when saying mass. He was affectioningly know by his parishers as ‘their pistol-packing padre’.

Thats funny and creepy at the same time.

I was reading that article and I think I know what the so called “journalist” was more interested in:

“The depression was seemingly getting worse and worse as the year went on,” Zenk said. “And the truth of the matter is I think that killed him.”…
…
“There are many wonderful things about the gift of celibacy in the Catholic Church, but one of the hard parts is that it can be a lonely life,” he said. “When Bu died, and now this is all conjecture, not only did he lose companionship, but all of a sudden it seemed to be a little more isolation. And that doesn’t serve anyone well.”

So true!
When I once wanted a dog, I went to the shelter and rescued a fine Warlock Doberman
I got satisfaction from a great companion and knowing I saved a fine young animal.
In any case, the Parish is always ready to become a priest’s family. My priest is booked weeks in advance for lunches and dinners at parish members’ homes.
It’s just that I can’t fit suicide into the mind of a priest. To say nothing of one/month:confused:
