No Catholic I have ever met, certainly not my priest, is living with any avowed expectation of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
I love what Fr. Corapi says about this:

“The end may be near, but the end for you and me is definitely near!”

I greatly enjoyed Carl E. Olsen’s Will Catholics Be Left Behind? But I imported it from myself America. Why should this just be ‘little old me’ and a book thing?

The Second Coming is an article of the Nicene Creed. Have Catholics totally forgotten about it?This is bunk…you haven’t looked for Catholic answers to this error, have you? And then you have not been a faithful servant and offered to help build up the church that you claim is right enough for you to convert to.

The CA Library has many good articles, including an extensive white paper on why the rapture is an error in doctrine. Go look it up…it’s hard to miss.

And then of course there is John Martignoni’s apologetic Bible study called The Rapture and the Bible, which you can download and burn onto discs to give to fellow Catholics and even pastors to help them.
Quit :crying: and be about Our Father’s business.
Pax tecum ,

Having grown up in a conservative evangelical church, I can’t tell you how many times I was taught that we are in the end times. In high school I never thought I would see 30 because Jesus was coming back any day. Now at 37 after a bit of reading I see that every generation of Christians had someone telling them the world is ending tomorrow.

In my experience there is an element of satisfication in evangelical teaching on the rapture that all the bad people are going to suffer while us Christians are taken out of the world and get to watch it from the clouds.

But when I read Revelation and the rest of scripture, I see no promises that Christians will not suffer. In fact, I see the opposite. Jesus tells us we will be persecuted.

I beleive in the second coming. I don’t believe in the rapture.

I have decided to my break my questions up into a number of posts because I’m looking for real answers and don’t want to be accused of making a ‘buckshot’ attack

If you’re still alive and checking these posts then you know by now that I seriously doubt your motives on this thread. That being said I must share a cool contridiction to your post(s). Last New Year’s Eve I found myself at a party with new Catholic friends from my parish (yes this discredits your earlier post about Cathlic friends) a youth at the party asked me about the upcoming 6/6/6/ (June 6, 2006) and if I thought the world would end then…this led to two families from my parish and my SD and me to meet and study the book of Revelation (this discredits another one of your posts,)…and this led to great discussions on Christ’s second coming. I’m a convert, but everyone else who participated in this study were cradle Catholics…so please be open minded, and if…if your posts are legit…then there are many opportunties to share the faith, but it’s up to you to act on that!

You have to be the one who does all things that you say the Catholic Church doesn’t do, if you are Catholic then your statements about the Catholic Church are statements about yourself, as well.

Fr Corapi also says somewhere, that “one will be taken and one will be left” is to be compared to the days of Noah, when those who were taken – swept away and drowned – were those who died, and those who were left – safe in the Ark – were those in God’s will.
So he explains that the idea of the Rapture is not scriptural, it’s based on a misunderstanding of the meaning of those verses.

Dalcent,

Pardon me, but what are you looking for in an “avowed expectation of the Second Coming”? What should we be doing differently?

Somebody once asked the great Fundamentalist preacher D.L. Moody what he would do today if he knew that Jesus was coming back tomorrow. His reply was “Plant a tree.”

Thank you for the link. I will check it out. I personally believe that since we can’t know when Christ will return we cannot know if He will return before or after the Rapture. I think the idea that some will be left behind is possible, but definately not the only possible answer. My opinion of what Catholics thought on the subject were based entirely on other posts I’ve seen here on CAF. Most, I have to say, were very disdainful of the protestants who even used the term rapture.
Good Day Syele

Well…
In defense of those that say the rapture isnt going to happen, it sorta requires understanding where they are coming from. Most people, when you say ‘Rapture’ people will automaticly think what is portrayed by Tim LaHaye. So, normally, when catholics say that the rapture isnt biblical, they are realy refering to pretrib and mid trib rapture.

Post trib rapture when put in correct order is mor along the lines of what we beleive…

A good overview of the order of events would be something like this
  1. Anitchrist rises and the Tribulation period described in Revelations occurs
  2. Devil is defeated by christ at armegedon and thrown for ever more into the lake of fire
  3. The dead are risen
  4. Living and the dead are in final judgement
  5. A new heaven and a new earth are created and the original glorified state of nature is restored.
OVER OVER simplified probably to a point being wrong, but its an over all jist… a catholic rapture would probably occur around 4

With respect to my pesonal reason why i dont beleive in any rapture other than at the last last day…

Christ only talks about returning once…
if he returns before the last day, that means he will be returning multiple times, something not possible according to scripture…

in anycase, hopefully i didnt muddle it up for you even more 🙂

May You be Blessed

I thought Catholics didn’t talk about the rapture much cause you don’t believe in it?
With respect to the rapture, Catholics certainly believe that the event of our gathering together to be with Christ will take place, though they do not generally use the word “rapture” to refer to this event (somewhat ironically, since the term “rapture” is derived from the text of the Latin Vulgate of 1 Thess. 4:17—“we will be caught up,” [Latin: rapiemur]).

in discussions such as this, especially on topics such as the rapture, tribulation, millenialism etc. it is worse than useless it is inaccurate, rude and dangerous to use words like protestant, evangelical, pentecostal and fundamentalist interchangeably to describe beliefs at variance with Catholic teaching. It is presumptuous and insulting to claim to know and understand the personal beliefs and spiritual condition of any individual or to attache a denominational label to him that he himself does not use.

Many of the churches get all bent out of shape about the Seconding Coming that they say it’s in your lifetime (over a hundred years ago) or they actually give a date. JWs are my favorite on doing this. Fact is, the end times have been predicted since Christ and that was 2,000 years ago. So if I got my facts right, a lot of people have been talking about the end times for 2,000 years and it hasn’t happened. But they all died! So it appears that your world will come to an end but odds are you will not see the world burnt to a cinder.

I don’t think that quotation helps anything. Scripture says that everything will go on as it has, right to the end – because we don’t know when the end will be, hence will not particularly be doing anything special when it gets here.

It’s my personal insight since junior high, that the world would be better off if everyone was a Catholic. But, I don’t think that’s going to happen. But, as population increases in the world, the best way we have to live together is with the Catholic faith, that’s what I mean.

Other people have the same general idea, but they look for salvation in secular humanism, instead.

As I watch the world events during my life, I ponder the rhetorical question Jesus poses, Will the Son of Man find faith when He returns?

The second coming of the Lord is proclaimed inside the liturgy at every Mass. Be attentive during your next Mass.

What makes you think that your priest does not expect the Second Coming of Jesus. Have you ever heard him praying during his own time, in his bed room, at the hour when he was all alone.

Do you think you expect about the coming of Jesus more other than your priest? could you list the thing you do for this expectation?

There are 1.5 billion Catholic, can you name 1000 Catholic people who do not expect and pray and be prepared about the second coming?

Your other thread tells me that you have no friends. With no friends, how could you come to a conclusion that you will leave the Catholic church because you think you know Catholics are not prepared for this day?

Assumption will fool you my friend.
