I’m taking my two young teens with me for two hours in the first week. I’ll have to see how it works out after that. The targetted clinic in our city is 30 minutes away from me. And I’ll have to get a babysitter.

Never been to pray at an abortion clinic before. I’m a little nervous. My mom has been praying at this clinic for the last year every Saturday morning–even before it opened.

It’s funny how nervous we get before the first time we go to a pray at a clinic, I know I too was nervous. But then I went and it wasn’t at all intimidating, as I had expected. It was sad to know that this was the place where babies die because someone purposely kills them, but I was happy to be there to offer a prayer for them.

These babies and their mom’s need prayer, as do those who work in the industry, and the friends and family of the mom’s who encourage them to get abortions.

It is my sincere hope and prayer that this campaign really has an impact.

Well, tomorrow is the kick-off for the Campaign Nationwide, although Aurora has completed 40 Days and managed by the grace of God to prevent Planned Parenthood from opening the largest abortion clinic in the nation!

Please, if there is a campaign in your area, consider taking an hour to go down and Pray to End Abortion.

You have the opportunity, right now, to save a life and possibly a soul. I get updates from the sidewalk at one of the clinics in Sacramento, and it is incredibly heartwarming to hear how woman accept the help offered to them which allows them to consider another choice. They come back with their new babies and offer assistance to other young women facing the same choice.

Within the walls of Planned Parenthood, everything is done to “help the pregnant woman understand why this child should not be given a chance to live.” The subtle manipulations they use are absolutely amazing as they sell their pack of lies and their one choice, death to the unborn.

Simply being present outside the clinic, praying quietly is sufficient to save lives. If you do it through this campaign, you can be assured that they have looked into the legalities of the local city, county, municipality that regulates the right-of-way outside their local clinic. If there is not a 40 Days for Life campaign in your community, you can either join in prayer from your home, or you can learn where your local clinic is, and go park near it (I do NOT recommend parking in their private lot). From your car or on a public sidewalk simply pray the rosary.

Do NOT do anything that is violent, unlawful, or less than loving. This it the time to demonstrate Christ’s love for the sinner. They will know us by our LOVE.

Please, take the time and join the campaign.

This comes from the 40 Days for Life Headquarters and was shared by someone in Providence RI.
This woman told us how she had just seen the harvest of a seed planted 8 years ago.
Eight years ago, she prayed with a group for an end to abortion,
and they specifically prayed that God would reach the abortionists through their dreams.
Three weeks ago, she visited a gynocologist and was quick to commend him on having a Bible displayed in the office. What he said next was amazing. He explained that, eight years ago, he was an abortionist, but he had found God. Why? He’d had terrible nightmares that would not go away, and he turned to the Bible for answers.
A colleague even noticed the change in his personality, and asked what was up. So both of them, agnostics, began reading the Bible! Here this doctor was: no longer an abortionist, but a brother in Christ, all because God heard the prayers of his servants and spoke to the man in his dreams.
It took a while for this great outcome to come to fruition and then confirmation, but look at how good God is. He brought her to this doctor’s office so she might see the fruit of her prayer.

Know that many of our prayers, while answered, are not brought to our attention. Trust in the Lord. He answers prayer even as we sleep.

CARose, thank you for this thread!

We have a “40 Days” vigil going on here in Seattle (and others in surrounding suburbs). I am involved and I find one of the most encouraging aspects is that it is organized and mostly driven by “youngsters” in their 20s and 30s.

To me this means that this is really only the beginning of this kind of apostolate. It is already bearing fruit, and as these young folks gain experience in their endeavors they will only become more effective.

If anybody lives in the Seattle area please check out the website for “40 Days” in Seattle. We could use more prayer warriors!

Just wanted to relay something that happened to me this morning.

I was praying outside our local Planned Parenthood abortion business (i try not to call it a clinic - clinics are for getting BETTER, not killing) around 9am or so…

A pretty lady with black hair and blue eyes came up and began to speak to me. She simply wanted to let me know that Planned Parenthood had helped her in the past with a pap smear and saved her money and that they do lots of good things too and that it wasn’t fair for us to have the sign there saying that they kill 226,543 baby humans every year.

Well … I used all the pro-Life apologetics I’ve learned here and from standtoreason.com to calmly (i hope i appeared calm - adrenaline was racing through my body) to calmly tell her that:

1 - the reason we are praying here is that abortions are being performed here: little people are being killed. I acknowledged her points, but firmly kept bringing the discussion back to that central point - that we are against this killing and it is WRONG.

2 - if it isn’t a baby then why is an abortion necessary?

3 - that it’s true poverty is a problem, and we should deal with that, and we are dealing with that, however imperfectly. But even though poverty is a problem, it is still better to be alive and poor than just simply dead and never even get a chance to see the light of day or perhaps pull oneself out of poverty.

4 - when asked what I am doing about the poor women who are pregnant, I listed the pregnancy centers in my area that I’ve contributed to and told her these saintly souls are helping women with WHATEVER issues they have that are making them consider abortion: housing, supplies, … I told her there is always a way if a person wants to live.

5 - i recognized the sacrifice that is involved in having a child and thanked her for that (she has a daughter), but again I said abortion is never necessary simply because a woman is poor - especially in the U.S. of A.!

Anyway, long story short, I feel I effectively answered all the “standard” reasons why abortion might sometimes be considered. Yay for me - I just hope I didn’t sound like a know-it-all male, and I wish I could’ve established more of a rapport with her before she said she had to go. I don’t think she went away mad, but … well I just hope I delivered some of God’s light.

Not trying to toot my own horn here - just want to share what a terrific experience it is to be involved with 40 Days for Life. You never know when you might get into a discussion with somebody, and you also never know how many souls you will get thinking just by your physical presence there.

Anybody else have anything to share about their experiences?

Hi!

Over the last few days, I have been praying and fasting
for an end to abortion as part of the groundbreaking 40
Days for Life campaign.

Since this effort started on September 26, many lives
have been saved from abortion, many women and men have
been protected from making a tragic decision that could
haunt them for a lifetime, and many people who have
experienced the pain of abortion in their past have
begun to find healing.

I receive regular updates about the 40 Days for Life
campaign, and have been inspired by the amazing things
that God is doing all across America.

I’d like to invite you to join me in this important
initiative. Here’s how…

I’ll share an additional experience. I am participating in 40 Days in one of the suburbs of Seattle, but I’m doing it mostly really late at night due to my work schedule. The abortuary is in a really bad neighborhood like many of them are. Near the start of the campaign, we were in front of the clinic with candles about 3am when a group of really grizzly looking men came up to us and asked what we were doing. They were pretty intimidating. We responsed we were praying the rosary to end abortion. They said “oh!” and looked really confused staring at us for a few minutes. Then they walked off. Since then they periodically peek at us from their drug aparentments in perplexed confusion. Maybe the witness of the campaign will do more then just end abortion, perhaps it will plant a seed in the hardest of heats.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending a talk given by Fr. Tad (the 3rd time I have heard him speak) and afterwards a woman came forward to talk to him.

7 years ago, her sister was diagnosed with Mylofibrosis while pregnant. The doctors, of course, strongly recommended she abort her child so that she could begin treatment, which would require drugs that would endanger her child.

She opted instead to give her child a chance at life, and postponed her own treatment. The therapy available at the time would have merely postponed her death, giving her perhaps 2 years to live from the time of her diagnosis.

When her daughter was born, she was already seriously ill, and at that point the available therapies would offer little if any hope to improve her condition. The Mayo clinic, where she had received her diagnosis in the beginning, referred her to a clinical trial being done in Seattle WA, where they were looking at the effectiveness of using Adult Stem Cell therapies for the treatment of mylofibrosis. By the time she arrived there for treatment, she was given only a couple of days to live.

It is now 7 years later. Her sister had been found to be a match for donating stem cells and after she received them she was cured of mylofibrosis and is living a full and healthy life, raising her daughter.

She and her sister believe that if she had not made the decision to spare her child’s life, she would not have been an eligible candidate for the experimental therapy that saved her life.

Why is it that doctors are so quick to recommend that a child be aborted?

We need to help people to recognize that abortion is NOT an option, that killing the child is not something to be done, even so that treatment can begin on the mother.

I’ve been to the Seattle clinic once during the 40 Days so far, although it was on a Sunday during the day, so we didn’t get too many responses. (Although one lady driving past slowed down really suddenly, put her hand to her mouth in horror, and drove away shaking her head…)😉

An interesting thing happened to me today, but first, an email I received the other day…As far as being identified for our beliefs and encouraging others…

We have never put bumper stickers on our vehicles. My husband dislikes them (no matter the message).

I bought a bumper sticker for 40 days for life at the cathedral after the kick-off mass. Then I thought - do I really want to put this on my van knowing my husband’s dislike of bumper stickers and also knowing that I may get unfriendly questions and nasty comments about my pro-life position? I drive an older mini-van which has a cracked windshield and other blemishes. It’s getting to the point that I am embarrassed to drive it but it is paid for. I wondered if it would be a good witness for me to put the bumper sticker on such a vehicle.

Also it badly needed to be washed…possibly a poor witness…but also an excuse. Reno isn’t the friendliest community to drive around with a pro-life sticker on your vehicle… I drive my children around in this van…would I be putting them in danger?

Yesterday I got the van washed and put the sticker on (the back glass not the bumper). No comments one way or the other so far…That I had to consider what sort of angry, nasty or threatening comments I might get tells you how uncivil the debate about abortion has become in our country. It’s pretty sad that I had to even think about it.My response was:

You sound like me and the thoughts I went through before putting a Pro-Life bumper sticker on my car a couple of months ago. It now has two, the first (which was “Peace begins in the womb” ) and now a 40 Days for Life one as well. I drive a 1992 4 door sedan with 188,000 miles on it. It’s frequently dirty and I live in a mountain community, where the majority of the other moms are extremely liberal. So I know exactly what you went through before putting the bumper sticker on your car.But I’ve now had them there for a couple of months and the only comment I’ve gotten was from someone who was with us at the 1st Saturday Rosary at the local abortionary, who was teasing me when afterwards we ended up approaching the same traffic light a few blocks away.Well, today I had a confirmation of the kind of opportunity that can come from placing a simple bumper sticker on your car.

My daughter and I were in town (we live an hour away) and she was hungry, so we went to the In & Out Burger to get her something to eat. I don’t know how many of you have been there when they have a young person working the line, gathering orders from the cars in line, sending them via a wireless pad to the kitchen, but after taking my order, she moved to the car behind me.

A few minutes later, she was back at my window, asking for information about 40 Days for Life. Here was this young woman, who by merely seeing a bumper sticker, had the opportunity to learn more about what we’re doing.

I was glad I had copies of our Prayer & Fasting Commitment brochure on hand, because at this point, additional cars were pulling into line, and we did not have the opportunity to have a decent conversation. But she has what it takes to get involved now that she has a copy of our flyer.

When it comes to being known for your Pro-Life convictions, consider the words of JPII, “Be Not Afraid”.

God Bless,

CARose

Thanks for the welcome!

40 days of prayer, fasting and a peaceful vigil outside of abortion providers
It takes place from September 26th to November 4th

I’m in on the planning in our area.
PLEASE say some prayers that it is a success.

Oh, the most exciting part is that Father Pavone is coming to our town in the middle of the 40 days!

Here’s a message that was recently sent by the National Campaign Director. I strongly recommend your taking the time to listening to the audio on the blog!
David Bereit:
While driving to Greenville, South Carolina, to join
the local 40 Days for Life efforts, Margaret, Claire,
Patrick, and I have been reflecting on the many
faithful people we’ve met during our travels to 24 of
the 40 Days for Life locations since September 26.
To help you get a feel for some of the wonderful people
who are tirelessly investing their time, talent, and
treasure into 40 Days for Life – and the impact they
are having – I have begun recording short interviews
with local leaders and volunteers on the vigil sites.
Today, I wanted to share with you three of the people
we met yesterday, including:
  • The lady who helped coordinate 40 Days for Life for
the entire state of South Carolina
  • A post-abortive woman with a passion for life
  • A Messianic Jew who is out at the vigil each day
    from 6:30 AM until 1:30 AM – 19 hours a day!!
Listen to them share the blessings of 40 Days for Life
in their own words.
The 14-minute audio is posted online at:

You will be blessed!

Here is some of what’s happening around the nation:
FROM OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON:

After 480 hours of uninterrupted prayer and Christian witness, the people of 40 Days for Life in Olympia were blessed with the most wonderful experience pro-lifers can have, three saved pre-born lives!

On three occasions young women who came to Planned Parenthood answered our outreach and were ministered to by our sidewalk counselors. Our counselors spoke with them and told them the truth about God’s love and that their unborn child was an expression of that love.

They were able to tell them about the assistance available to them from many sources, including our state’s programs: medical coupons, low income housing, food stamps, WIC, etc. and also that of some local private organizations such as Pregnancy Aid and Shelter Home for Pregnant Teens.

In the end, our prayers were answered and the dark-side’s icey fingers and tools lost out. PRAISE GOD!

FROM RICHMOND, VA:

Yesterday I spent several hours praying with others in front of the abortion clinic for everyone who went in for any reason. During the one hour this morning and hour and a half this evening, I prayed with nine women, three men, and ten children. We blocked no one, didn’t get in anyone’s face, approached no one in the parking lot, had no gruesome posters about the realities of abortion to use as scare tactics, and we didn’t shout at anyone about anything.

The highlight of my day today was having a young woman roll down her car window as they drove away from the abortion clinic and saying with a smile on her face: “Thanks for the brochure. We decided not to go through with it.”

I flashed her a huge smile and said, “Congratulations!” I was so blessed to have this happen. I’m not sure who gave her a brochure or when, since there weren’t any left there when I arrived.

Someone else had planted a seed, and I had been blessed to hear that it had born fruit in the form of a child who will live. It’s true, we don’t know what our words and actions have and will bring about.

I think the most important outcome from all of this will be more women knowing that God and those of us there praying love them and their unborn children. We aren’t there to judge them or the workers in the abortion clinic.

We’re there to offer help and support so women feel confident they’ll have the physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial resources necessary to keep an unexpected child.

Another thing we hope is that those who do have an abortion will experience healing in mind, body, and spirit. We pray that this healing will be complete so they will not end up among the majority of women who have abortions and suffer from depression, become suicidal, and be much more likely to have breast cancer.

Mother Teresa was right. If we judge people, we have no time to love them.

The 40 Days comes to a close this weekend, and everyone, anyone who has a Planned Parenthood or abortion center in your town or city is invited, encouraged to come together with anyone you know and stand a 24 hour vigil in front of the center to Pray to End Abortion. It is hoped that there will be vigils at far more than the already record breaking 89 cities to make this the largest ever simultaneous Life Affirming Prayer Vigil ever.

Please join!
