One needs to do more than just pray for those who are having abortions. These women…many of them young and naive…do not have support systems or someone to turn to, to help them make a decision.
I will probably regret typing this, but I am going to just come out and “say” it. I had an abortion some years ago. I remember being frightened and not really knowing what I should do. At the time, my life wasn’t very stable, and I decided to go to planned parenthood to get checked out.
While there, I was examined by the nurse practitioner. I expressed my doubts and concerns about not knowing what to do. I guess deep down in my heart, I knew what I was doing wrong, (but didn’t realize that at the time) and I ended up going through with it anyway and not a day…or rather not even a single moment goes by where I don’t think about it and regret it after realizing what a horrible thing I had done. Of all the stupid things I have done in my life, this is by far the BIGGEST, most TERRIBLE choice I have ever made and I cried myself to sleep more times than I can count and I now suffer from anxiety and depression over it.
I didn’t always feel depressed or regret my choice though. I was young and naive and at the time of getting it, felt that there wasn’t anything wrong. It was just “a clump of cells” as the NP had told me and I had nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to be frightened of. Boy was she wrong! I did have to pass the PP clinic on some days, as it wasn’t too far away from my house. There were times when people would be outside protesting holding up “dead babies” and all this did was make me angry. How dare they do something like that is what I would think.
Well, then the day came when I was i my maternity class for nursing school when we started learning about fetal development. I was looking at the slides of development and I had to leave class. My eyes filled with tears, and I couldn’t contain myself. It finally hit me…I killed my baby. My precious little boy or girl that I believe in my heart is in heaven with God and I was a terrible person. I felt so ashamed and my heart just melted. It was from that point forward that my stance on abortion had changed and I am now pro-life. But what a hypocrite I am!
I guess my point in all my rambling about this, which is now somewhat off topic, is that the way to get through to these women is to talk with them and to be a confidant rather than one who protests their actions. Many of them truly believe that abortion is not wrong…that it is not a baby…and that their actions will have no affect on them.
As someone who has had a change of heart of this, I can tell you that you will “get more bees with honey”. Had I known then, what I know now, things may have been different. I was selfish back then and had people who were very close to me telling me that there was nothing wrong with what I did. Till this day, these same people try their hardest to console me. But I will never be consoled. I don’t think I will ever get over my depression and I will never stop wondering what could have been.
I have an 11 year old son, and am reminded every minute of every day, that I killed one of God’s most precious beings. If I could go back in time, I NEVER would have went through with this and I wish that I had someone in my life that would have helped me see the error of my ways. But I didn’t. And that is not to say that this was anyone else’s fault. It wasn’t. It was my choice, and my choice alone, but what a terrible, terrible choice it was.
People do change. I am living proof, but unfortunately, it came to late for me and I really don’t believe that praying is enough to get through to others, who like me at the time, think that there is nothing wrong with having an abortion.
Anyway, as stated above, I will probably regret telling all of you about this, but maybe another woman who is contemplating having an abortion will stumble upon this post, read it, and have a change of heart.
?? Wouldn’t it be better to pray that people repent, because if they don’t, we certainly won’t have to beg for chastisement. My own feeling is the fact that NYC is the abortion capital of the US is the real reason we are the #1 target for terrorists. We can’t keep killing our babies like this and think everything is going to go on as normal.
