Has anyone listened to Gilbert Gottfried reading an excerpt of the book? It’s definitely NSFW but it’s funny.
Yes! My friend had me listen to it on YouTube last week. I have never laughed so hard, blushed so deeply, or been so creeped out.

My 16 year old daughter asked me last night if she could get this series. I said, “Uh, No!”. I haven’t read it myself but I did catch a review of it on ewtn radio and sure it is something I don’t care to read and certain it would be inappropriate for her. Problem is, knowing her she’s going to want to read it even more now, knowing that I disapprove. Any advice how to explain to her why she shouldn’t read it in a way that she’ll “get it”?

I actually thought Twilight was great brain candy and a fun read. And yes, there was no porn in the books. Sex was implied and only between married couples. What’s wrong with that?

Now, having said that, I am not going to let my girls read it. Why? Because having been through an abusive relationship, there are red flags ALL OVER Edward. If teenage girls who have no idea what healthy romantic love looks like read this stuff, they are going to come away with a really warped view of what to look for in a man and we are going to see a huge increase in domestic violence.

I would rather have my girls read something like the Outlander series (Diana Gabaldon). There is sex (quite explicit), but again it’s only between married couples. To me that’s a side issue, however. The main reason I would have my girls read Outlander is the way she describes love - it’s complex and it’s not always pretty (they are imperfect humans after all), but there are certain constants to lifelong love and keeping your vows, and there are ways that keeping your vows really reshape your priorities. Joys and sacrifices are mutual and shared. If my girls are going to get a picture of what love looks like, this is the series to read.
Thanks for the reference! Never heard of it but, maybe it will be just the ticket to distract my teen from the hype of the 50 shades series. I’ll check it out.

ok, just watched the Gilbert Godfried YouTube vid…I think I’ll go pray now!
