Are you using the “Reply” link at the end of the post or at the end of the list of posts?

Coincidentally, when you use the “list” link the poster does not get the automatic notice; that notice only kicks in when you use the direct “Reply” link on the actual post to which you are responding.

Really, lording power over people makes one a saint?

I understand this, though. I was the same. I didn’t want my faith to be shattered**. I had a lot invested in the Church. Escaping a cult is not easy**.
That is exactly why I followed this thread!

I wanted to meet with you and share your experience; I also wanted to extend my support as your Christian Brother!

A few months ago, I entered a Catholic mass. There’s no description I can adequately give of the feelings that I had being there. Yeah, it was a little weird at first, but with each new week became a new breath of life. It’s been nothing but joy. We are NOT the Church of the Devil.
I think you met up with:
10:27 The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. 10:28 I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me. 10:29 The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. 10:30 The Father and I are one.’ (St. John)

Hi!

This is the Sheol (Jewish abode of the dead, where the good and the bad souls await).

St. Peter tells us about Jesus’ rescuing:
3:18 Why, Christ himself, innocent though he was, had died once for sins, died for the guilty, to lead us to God. In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life, 3:19 and, in the spirit, he went to preach to the spirits in prison. 3:20 Now it was long ago, when Noah was still building that ark which saved only a small group of eight people ‘by water’, and when God was still waiting patiently, that these spirits refused to believe. 3:21 That water is a type of the baptism which saves you now, and which is not the washing off of physical dirt but a pledge made to God from a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 3:22 who has entered heaven and is at God’s right hand, now that he has made the angels and Dominations and Powers his subjects. (1 St. Peter)

Well, ever watch those who bet on the roulette tables? The bet on black, red, number “x” and “c” and “pie” and… it’s like the agnostics, gnostics, atheist, and heretics… they hedge their bets as best as they can… so one, two, three, millions of gods… ‘hey, place your bets!’

Please, understand what is being Taught: the Church is the Body of Christ:
12:27 Now you together are Christ’s body; but each of you is a different part of it. 12:28 In the Church, God has given the first place to apostles, the second to prophets, the third to teachers; after them, miracles, and after them the gift of healing; helpers, good leaders, those with many languages. (1 Corinthians)
4:11 And to some, his gift was that they should be apostles; to some, prophets; to some, evangelists; to some, pastors and teachers; 4:12 so that the saints together make a unity in the work of service, building up the body of Christ. 4:13 In this way we are all to come to unity in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God, until we become the perfect Man, fully mature with the fullness of Christ himself. 4:14 Then we shall not be children any longer, or tossed one way and another and carried along by every wind of doctrine, at the mercy of all the tricks men play and their cleverness in practising deceit. 4:15 If we live by the truth and in love, we shall grow in all ways into Christ, who is the head (Ephesians)
Since there’s no Salvation outside of Christ, it is true then that there’s no Salvation outside of His Body: the Church.

Yet, hell and any Judgment is brought about by the individual person not the Church’s pronouncements!

No. That’s one of those erroneous theologies, like that of the Mormons and the Jehovah Witnesses, that take a passage from Scriptures and contort and distort it till the cult’s belief seems to be met:
18:25 But you object, “What the Lord does is unjust”. Listen, you House of Israel: is what I do unjust? Is it not what you do that is unjust? 18:26 When the upright man renounces his integrity to commit sin and dies because of this, he dies because of the evil that he himself has committed. 18:27 When the sinner renounces sin to become law-abiding and honest, he deserves to live. 18:28 He has chosen to renounce all his previous sins; he shall certainly live; he shall not die. 18:29 And yet the House of Israel objects, “What the Lord does is unjust”. Is what I do unjust, you House of Israel? Is it not what you do that is unjust? 18:30 House of Israel, in future I mean to judge each of you by what he does – it is the Lord Yahweh who speaks. Repent, renounce all your sins, avoid all occasions of sin! 18:31 Shake off all the sins you have committed against me, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why are you so anxious to die, House of Israel? 18:32 I take no pleasure in the death of anyone – it is the Lord Yahweh who speaks. Repent and live! (Ezekiel)

Have you noticed how no one has asked you to leave your sect?

Maran atha!

Angel

But no one is asking you not to believe what you believe; what people are saying that your saint took on many wives, some child-wives, some wives of other "members,’ some that were blood-sisters, some that were mothers-sisters… then throw in all the contortions and fairyland theology and the persecution of those that leave the sect, compiled with the terror tactics of forcing members to remain attached to the sect… well, ever heard of the expression ‘hell on earth?’

What can be challenged is their willingness to deny themselves, take up their crosses daily and (only then), follow Christ for the sake of unity. Notice how that order is often reversed?
I fully concur!

Ego takes a trip and psyche models itself on it’s own image and likeness… ‘me obey?’

To add insult to injury some LDS leaders said those who died on the trek died because they weren’t faithful enough. All for the glory of the kingdom.

Are you kidding me. full of grace. Grace is unmerited FAVOR…
No, actually. Only the first grace is unmerited. To receive more grace, one must definitely merit it.

CCC#2010 Since the initiative belongs to God in the order of grace, no one can merit the initial grace of forgiveness and justification, at the beginning of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit and by charity, we can then merit for ourselves and for others the graces needed for our sanctification, for the increase of grace and charity, and for the attainment of eternal life. Even temporal goods like health and friendship can be merited in accordance with God’s wisdom. These graces and goods are the object of Christian prayer. Prayer attends to the grace we need for meritorious actions.

Hi, T!

Don’t forget to mention how it is the Catholic Church the only Body of Christ and that it is the Catholic Church the only source of Apostolic Succession and Apostolic Teaching; also, don’t forget to announce that all non-Catholic Christian groups revolve around Luther and Calvin and a few others who splintered the One Body of Christ and whose descendants have now splintered the Body into tens of thousand of schisms that both compete and unite on two fronts:
a) they claim that each of them is the church of Christ
b) they claim that the Catholic Church is not the Church of Christ (sounds quite like the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses, huh?

Please, don’t just tell some of the story, tell all of the story!

Glad you found your way back to Jesus!

Welcome home Rebecca!

Yup. In some translations, based on slightly differing manuscripts, it is John 6:67, but the point remains.

T, please read Sacred Scriptures not from a foreign eye (Mormon, Jehovah Witness, and all those other jigglypuffs out there):
14:16 I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you for ever, 14:17 that Spirit of truth whom the world can never receive since it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you. 14:18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you.

16:12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you now. 16:13 But when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he will not be speaking as from himself but will say only what he has learnt; and he will tell you of the things to come. 16:14 He will glorify me, since all he tells you will be taken from what is mine. 16:15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: All he tells you will be taken from what is mine.
(St. John)

28:18 Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 28:19 Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 28:20 and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.’ (St. Matthew)
The problem you and the other separated brethrens have is that you’ve divested yourself of the Church Founded by Christ and with that you’ve removed yourself from Apostolic Succession and Apostolic Teachings.

It’s like attempting to Fellowship with Christ but only accepting His Head, not the Body that He Fashioned for Himself:
5:23 since as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole body, so is a husband the head of his wife; 5:24 and as the Church submits to Christ, so should wives to their husbands, in everything. 5:25 Husbands should love their wives just as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her 5:26 to make her holy. He made her clean by washing her in water with a form of words, 5:27 so that when he took her to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless. 5:28 In the same way, husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies; for a man to love his wife is for him to love himself. 5:29 A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats the Church, 5:30 because it is his body-and we are its living parts. 5:31 For this reason, a man must leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one body. 5:32 This mystery has many implications; but I am saying it applies to Christ and the Church. (Ephesians)
