CAF has added a feature where a box will sometimes appear at the bottom of a thread with links to similar threads. Sometimes useful for additional information, especially if the current thread didn’t address what you were wondering. Unfortunately, when you go to those threads,like any other thread you are free to post a reply. People don’t realize that the thread should be extinct by now, and so it is resurrected when they add their own tidbit to what someone wrote 18 months earlier.

I know this is an old thread, but…
I think Kadaveri might’ve been more accurate had he compared the Muslim Salat to a Catholic MASS - it seems like a very ritualized type of prayer, one that a person would rather be “clean” (spiritually speaking - hey, confession or act of contrition, anyone?)… before entering into.
Think about it: when we go to MASS, we often go to Confession first. We don’t need to, strictly speaking, unless we’ve committed a mortal sin, but it is still common. Otherwise why would Confessions so often be schedualed right before the Vigil MASS on Saturday evening?
Another thing which many Catholics are a little bit OCD concerning is our dress for MASS… when I had to wear my jeans and tshirt to weekday MASS, because it was the only one I could make and I could only get there if I went straight from a day at work - there were always people who would be happy to express their opinion that it should be mandatory to dress up.
There are people who are OCD about trying to get women to wear veils in Church (a fine practice for personal devotion, I agree, but why are we always reminding people that it’s not required?)… there are people who insist that women wear skirts if they are to be doing readings or anything that will require them to be on the altar (such as EMHC-ing)…
The thing is, we as Catholics have our weird little “things” too…
to the outsider, it’s insanity. To us Catholics, it’s about making sure we worship God in the best way possible - in the way that is most pleasing to Him.
Can we not be charitable and assume that this is the intention of the ablutions a Muslim makes before performing Salat? (cool name for a prayer, btw, where does it come from(obviously something Arabic?)? and how does the Salat differ from more spontaneous prayers specifically?)
be careful not to slip into hypocrisy and bigotry yourself - the way to win friends is not by treating Muslims with hatred.
And I know. I can already see what you want to type - that you don’t want to be friends with Muslims.
Sad. One of my close friends is a Muslim woman. Beautiful lady, and honestly - I’d rather be friends with some Muslims than with some of the “Christians” that support things like abortion and same sex marriage… I’m not saying that I like everything about Islam.
As far as I’m concerned, they don’t have the Truth about the Incarnation and Jesus, and that’s all I need to know in order to know that it’s not for me. Nothing is for me but Jesus.
(even though I broke down today and did begin a pagan meditation - I have to go to confession bright and early tomorrow, before MASS, to “ritually” cleanse myself and my spirit, or rather to allow Jesus to cleanse me before I can recieve Him in the Eucharist
…I almost kind’ve hate myself for what I’ve done right now, but I know that’s not Jesus talking - He doesn’t hate me, even though what I’ve done hurts Him).
Still I am of the opinion that we must respond to other faiths and religions with maturity, with love and compassion. Seek to understand, not to insult and denigrate.

this sounds to me like something an extremist Muslim might say about Christians and Jews… which Muslims would you like to kill first, my friend?
