On the one hand, I don’t buy into a lot of NDEs .
Bare in mind, that while an experience might not be literally real, it can be “analogously real” in respect of what truly is heaven or what truly is hell. What i mean by this, is not that they didn’t have a true experience of what awaits us, but rather that things are often revealed to us in the form of “visions” which have the content of truth but are not literally true in how they are represented to our senses. They come in the form of metaphors and analogy, and may even use the contents of stored memories and images in are brain. Like Revelations.

The reason i say this, is because i am not sure that we can, in are present state, experience hell or heaven as it truly is. If one does experience these things, it is only because they are there permanently. This is much like the idea that if we were to see God as he truly is, we would die.

Are there actually different stages in Purgatory? Like does the Church teach anything or have people had visions, etc? Because I read that book (90 minutes in heaven) and my first thought was that he had already gone through Purgatory and was on his way from there to heaven. He said when he was at the gates he didn’t think about earth at all, so maybe he forgot about Purgatory too? The thing about different stages in Purgatory also makes sense, though.
We are human. God is not. 😉

Just as the Jews thought they knew that God would send a Messiah and awaited him with great anticipation, God brought forth a Savior through the most un-noble means. The Jews refused to believe that a Messiah would be born in such a way and not have an earthly kingdom. They thought they knew better.

We all can try to figure out whether NDEs are real or whether non-Catholics could actually have a vision of Heaven or what possible forms Purgatory may take.

But…in the end…God is God…and we’re not. This side of Heaven, we’ll never know the depth of God’s love and Mercy towards anyone – including ourselves.
