I’m not totally sure, but I told a lie today; would that be bearing false witness? Whichever binds alcohol must not apply to my catholic frien/co-worker. He is giving up alcohol for Lent, but says the day after Easter, he and about ten(10) friends are having a beer blast, and they will get wasted! He says they do it every year. And while I don’t use foul language(do you?) I sometimes think it. And I am not without sin, even though I am saved! I could echo Paul’s words where he said,“For it is not I who sin, but the sin within me.”
Now did you ask forgiveness from God for telling that lie?Why or why not did you ask for forgiveness? On ocassion i do have a potty mouth, for which i hang my hand in shame and ask forgiveness for using such language.i beleive it was also St.Paul who said something to the effect that such language should not come from the same tongue that praises God.
It is your contention that all sin is equal, so then by telling that lie you have become a murderer, adultrous,…you have broken all the commandments.
Perhaps you could remind your friend that it is considered by the Church a sin to get delibrately wasted as he has plannned.

Christ answered that question in Matt. 7:21-23 "Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and do MANY MIGHTY WORKS IN YOUR NAME?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I NEVER KNEW you; depart from me, you evildoors.’ "
And just how does one know that Christ will not say these words to them? In the given example the person beleieved he was doing God’s will while engaged in his street minstry. What evidence could you gave to this person at the time of his minstry that he was not doing God’s will.

Yes, I did! I find that as I progress in my Christian walk, I am more aware of my sin, and do repent, ask forgiveness, and thank Him! It would be pointless to mention to my friend about his drinking habits! He has said that nobody can tell him not to drink, or how much!

👍 Why do you feel the need to repent?
Be back after chow.🙂

What about the story about the sheep and the goats? Recall that the sheep ministered to the Lord and they were welcomed into heaven. The goats on the other hand, believed in Christ and thus were “saved” yet because they did not act on the word they were sent to eternal torment. I find that this story, in the words of Jesus Christ Himself, puts to rest the once saved always saved debate, at least for me.

We are all Saints once we are members of God’s Church, but we are on probation. We can, if we want to, using our free will throw away our inheritance like the prodical son did and if we do not come to our senses and return to God we will most certainly not want to choose God when we are judged. Remember that the son came to his senses and returned and repented. If he had not repented, he would have starved in the foriegn land where the pigs ate better than he did.

“Once saved always saved” is a VERY comforting thought, but it is not logical for a lot of reasons, but the story of the sheep and goats makes it very clear that we can choose to lose if we in our stubborness choose to do so.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it. 🙂

Jesus Christ is Lord !
I just wanted to share with you that I liked what you wrote in this post and like your story very much and I am sticking with it also with you…

It truly causes me sadness when I have a loved one tell me that I needed to stop putting myself on the Cross because I don’t agree with their belief that Once you ask for fogiveness and repent of your sins that we cannot lose our salvation.

We were forgiven at the Cross by the blood of our Savior, but being saved takes work on our part. The work part in my heart is Loving our Neighbor as ourselves. But loving God for what he has done for me and you is the easy part.

I have a question to those who believe in OSAS .who are the people that the inspired word of God is talking to in the following passages:Math 6 14,15:you must forgive others their tresspasses or else God wont forgive yours.if you arent forgiven can you still go to Heaven?Math 5 29-30 gouge out your eye,cut off your hand…better to enter life without a member then to go to Gehenna intact…do whatever it takes to stop sinning.why maim yourself if it cant cause you to loose your salvation… Galatians 5:19-20. “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” 1 Cor 6 9-10 is similiar… can OASAers do these and go to Heaven?
:thumbsup:Amen

Yeah so what, big deal, you sinned against God, you are saved so why repent.
So are you saying that when you go to the confession booth for the confession of your sins that you are not asking God to forgive. Why go to confession and say all the Hail Mary’s and Lord’s Prayer? That just does not make sense to me. We are suppose to love God with all our heart and mind, and he knows our hearts, and if we are confessing our sins just for the motions of doing it, then I don’t think that would count. God knows our hearts and we are to Love him and ask him to deliver us from the evil one.

👍
It seems to me from what I have read in Scripture, the act of salvation can not happen while we are in our earthly bodies. Salvation is a gift from God, even those who feel that they do have this gift from God while alive, upon death, will still be judged if I have read the Bible correctly. Does not the Bible clearly point out that upon our death all will be judged? This is our particulier judgement, if we have been worthy to the end we are given the gift of salvation. If we are found to be unworthy we are forever lost to God.

In order to fully believe OSAS would not one have to also believe they will not be judged? Why will we be judged at all if we have already been elected or damned?
👍:):hmmm:

I don’t beleive in OSAS, that’s why i receive the sacrement of reconcillation.
If one is already saved what need is there to repent of sins one has committed after they have been saved? This is the question asked of those who adhere to OSAS.After all one’s sins have no bearing on their salvation.

His faith was theoretical … not literal. New Creations are given a ‘new name’ … are adopted into God’s fold. It would be impossible for them to later deny their Father. They may go AWOL on occasion … but they will always return to the Father, and never denounce Him.

Because we serve our Lord from hearts of love, not of fear. We know repentance is normative, and necessary to please our Lord. Without repentance it is impossible to please God and we won’t persevere for very long. W/O perseverance to the last day, OSAS is not operative.

Thank you for finally saying this…By your own words you have proven that truly OSAS is an outright lie.

And that is why every true christian repents of their wrong doings…because they love God.However one’s sins are forgiven if reconcillation is sought out of fear,it’s not perfect, but trust of God’s mercy.
In OSAS theology though are not one’s, past, present and future, sins already forgiven upon one’s declaration(assurance) of salvation? If that is the case there is absolutely no need for repentence.

At the time of his minstry this man was assured salvation,You present no evidence at the time of this man’s ministry his faith was a theroy.

Covenants and contracts are VERY different! Contracts tend to recognize human nature’s sinfulness while covenants tend to recognize human nature’s honor.

**Covenants **
-almost always a verbal agreement
-spoken word carries a sense of absolute power
  • only main points are specified
-Responsibilities are based on the spirit of words of the agreement
-Penalties for violating the are not stated in the agreement but are understood to be severe
-The agreement is enforced by the offended party if possible
-the agreement is entered through a ritual ceremony resulting in some concrete sign of the agreement.
contracts
  • Only the letter of the contract is enforceable
    -almost always written agreement
-written word is all that is enforceable
  • all details are stated in agreement
-Penalties for violating the agreement are stated in the contract.
-The agreement is enforced by courts
The agreement is entered into by the placing of signatures of the the parties and of witnesses on the agreement.

Well, there are a few problem with your analysis.
  • God’s covenant is written down.
  • Penalties for not following God’s covenant are pretty clear.
  • The only contracts that have to be written down are done in accordance with the statute of frauds.
  • Not all details are stated in contracts. Thousands of businesses operate with “gap-fillers” in their contracts.
  • Professionally written contracts contain the “penalties” but most contracts make no mention of what occurs in breach.
  • Oral contracts have no signature. And many business daily make contracts which have no signatures (example would be orders, etc).
  • You are basically correct as to the four corners rule of contracts. Only things written within the four corners of the paper are enforceable, but there are many ways to bring any “formation” evidence into a legal proceeding.
