A Catholic Political Party Would Look Like

In their zeal for assimilation, the Catholic heirarchy (in particular Cardinal Cushing) sold out their Boston parishoners, I’m afraid to say.

I’m reading a fascinating book right now that deals with busing in Boston as well as urban renewal. It’s called The Slaughter of Cities by E. Michael Jones. It can be obtained through *Culture Wars *magazine. It is well worth the read.

Try not to allow the busing issue to dampen your faith.

Peace 🙂
Thanks for this book title. I read several reviews. Nothing new under the Boston sun. We’ve been saying the same thing for decades, in fact Louise Day Hicks is on record for predicting the demise of Boston’s neighborhoods due to forced busing back in 1964, and everything she predicted has come true. I am going to get the book.

And actually it wasn’t Cardinal Cushing who sold us out, it was Cardinal Meideros who really hurt us. The victims of forced busing in Boston look at Cardinal Meideros the way the sex abuse victims here look at Cardinal Bernard Law. 😦

My Catholic faith is strong, but my opinion of the management of the Catholic Church and its liberal social policies is a bit dim. 😦

“neocon” foreign policy is misleading. The left uses it to describe everything conservatives do.

There are two foreign policies which conservatives endorse which are interventionist:

The first is defensive and born of necessity. The Cold War was an example of that. So is the Iraqi War.

The second is Wilsonian. There are some in the conservative movement, true neocons, who endorse this but not many. The left claims everyone in the movement believes in this agenda. They do not accept the argument from the right that interventions Iraq and Afghanistan are needed to protect ourselves.

The liberal social policies you speak of are not the Church’s policies, but the policies of liberal bishops, priests, and laity.

Don’t give up. The Church has been around for 2,000 years, and has survived many heresies and other evils. Jesus promised He would be with us. If you look around, you can see the Church coming back to the truth already. Look at who was elected Pope. Read the official documents of the Church, including those from way back. The encyclicals of Pope Leo XIII are eye-opening. I found a book online called “Liberalism is a Sin” from more than 100 years ago. The Church has always taught the Truth. It’s been hi-jacked, but has not been conquered. Take a deep breath, and “Keep the Faith”.

God bless you,

What are these policies and who are the bishops promulgating them?

A Catholic party? In the US? Between the voters you’d lose because you call yourselves “Catholic” and the voters you’d lose because they think your definition of “Catholic” is on the moon, I fail to see how you could carry an election.

“Blest are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of slander against you because of me. Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is great in heaven; they persecuted the prophets before you in the very same way.” (Mt. 5:11-12)
Jesus implied that discipleship isn’t much of a way to get elected, wouldn’t you say?

So I have to vote against lending the name of Catholic to a political party. The Church has gotten herself into too much trouble by allying herself with the thirst for power in the past. Let those Catholics with a vocation for politics be the prophets in their parties, let us all do that, but let’s keep it clear of putting the Church herself into that arena. Someone cynical would find a way to sell her.

Catholic parties in Europe weren’t particularly Catholic, even if they might have started that way.

I agree with you. “Render unto Caesar…”

I couldn’t vote, because the

‘social conservative, fiscal liberal, anti-war’

option wasn’t there, and that’s the one I think.

i don’t want to burst your ballon or anything, but being as how you live in inglaterra, you can’t vote on american issues. i happen to feel that there are such things as uustified wars (WWII) or how would you likt to speak german and live in fear all your llife??? they did eventually come for the catholics…

the jewish problem was "what are we going to do with all these dead bodies. they couldn’t hide them fast enough.why do you think hitler committed suicide??they would havd did him like mussolini. worse if the russians arrived first, whick they did…

i’m a viet nam vet, and i think it was justified to the it sapped russia’s purse, snd along with afagnistan, made it impossible to continue the empire…

you have to judge things in the retrospect of history…

good points…and I’m with you…especially the part about letting Catholics with a vocation for politics be the prophets in their respective parties…

But why not organize somehow - without forming an ‘official’ political party - to help those Catholic politicians get elected…

How would we go about recruiting ‘real’ Catholics to become politicians, gather those candidates together to develop a strategy for getting them elected into local/state/federal elected positions, and then go about getting the word out on their campaigns so that people of any party could vote for them?

In this way, couldn’t we reform our existing parties from the inside out???

Right now each party is dominated by a handful of very wealthy donors who not only pay for the wins, but then feel entitled to dictate policy because of it. We’d have to be able to match or beat that kind of funding. And I’d want my $$$ to go to a specific candidate as opposed to the party to ‘dole out as they see fit’…

It’s an ‘old boy’s network’ we’d be trying to infiltrate. Our candidates would be shot down by their party leaders, that’s a given, so we’d have to find ways to get them on the ballot without the financial support of the leadership. And when our candidate beats out the ones they backed, that would be sending a very loud message to the leadership, would it not??

Granted…once our candidates beat out the odds and get elected…yes, we too, will be no different than those wealthy elite, because we will hold those candidates accountable for their votes and actions…but, could we find solace and comfort by knowing we’re at least backing a soldier of Christ???

Can you imagine…if both parties got infiltrated in this way??? They’d still be battling it out over how to spend government money to care for the people and the environment, but at least the life issues would be off the table. I could see the Democratic party be one pushing the social justice/environment issues, and the Republican party pushing economic issues so there’d still be a choice between the parties for the voters.

Anyway…
just thinking out loud…

Where do I begin? Are you not aware of all the dissent within the Church?
Have you heard of Call to Action, or Catholics for Free Choice? I don’t want to be naming names – this isn’t a gossip column. The greatest scandals are in the area of birth control, abor-tion, and homosexuality. There are many clergy involved in pacifist movements. There was a pro-abortion priest actually in the U.S. Congress for awhile, until the Pope called him down.

There are many books I could recommend.

The Unicorn in the Sanctuary: The Impact of the New Age Movement on the Catholic Church by Randall England

Call to action or call to apostasy?: How dissenters plan to remake the Catholic Church in their own image by Brian W Clowes
are just two.

If you don’t want to name names, then why make general accusations against “bishops, priests, and laity”?

Well, that shows me then! The thread was titled ‘A Catholic Political Party Would Look Like…’ I guess they only have political parties in America, according to you  (you do know what ‘Catholic’ means, right?)
i happen to feel that there are such things as uustified wars (WWII) or how would you likt to speak german and live in fear all your llife??? they did eventually come for the catholics…
I agree, World War 2 was completely justified. The Germans were actually bombing British cities during the war, remember.

But, if the options on the table are ‘isolationist’ ‘neo-con’ or ‘anti-war’, I’ll go for anti-war.

Probably ‘Just Wars only’ would be a better formulation though.
you have to judge things in the retrospect of history…
Indeed you do. Unfortunately you have to make decisions as to what to do without being able to look into the future and see how they turn out, too.

Maybe I don’t understand what you’re thinking. You do understand, don’t you, that there’s an awful lot of quarreling within the Church? That Liberalism has invaded all levels of the Church?
