A contraception poll. Catholics only, please!

So if it’s a matter of lack of catechesis and training, wouldn’t this be the case for ALL teachings of the Church? Why does this one in particular stand out the most as the least practiced and least understood teaching of the Church?
 
It makes me concerned that some people on this thread seem like they are saying ‘If the majority of Catholics disagree with it, scrap the teaching’. That viewpoint shows a clear misunderstanding of the Catholic Church.

Well why else would there be a poll option on this forum? And why else would people make polls?? I don’t think I’m the only one here who likes posting polls. I like them, they are fun.

Well that’s your own assumption, and a false one at that, I’m afraid.

Honestly, I did it for sun. Note how I have not stated MY views on contraception nor have I tried to argue for or against it.

Because some teachings are emphasised more than others. If a Catholic only attends Church once a year, for Christmas, do you really think he is likely going to know and follow all the teachings of the Church besides the basics?

Actually, what I meant was that communion, in all its mystery, is better understood by more Catholics than the teaching on contraception.

Yes, All Saints, also called Schlosskirche (Castle Church) was the chapel of the Univerisity of Wittenburg.

These were professional theologians in a university setting. It’s what they did.

Yes the Schlosskirche was in the center of the university. It was a hub. The university students received their doctorates in the church, speeches given in the church. It was a church but also something of a meeting place and auditorium of the day.

As I like to remind people, the kingdom of God is not a democracy. You either obey Him or you risk separating yourself from Him.

Choosing between avoiding pregnancy and going to hell should be a no-brainer, but like they say, common sense is uncommon.

I did not read the poll as condoning anything. There is nothing wrong with seeing where other forum members stand on issues. It might be helpful to know where evangelization efforts should be.

I’ve been a pretty regular Church goer all my life, and I have to say I’ve never heard the priest talk about many moral issues (such as homosexuality, premarital sex, etc etc) during mass.

Yes, sadly many people are blinded by sin and influenced by the rationalists who deny the miraculous.

This century is truly the culmination of the 4 preceding and we are far worse off for it.

Not at all. I just think that if the majority of Catholics disagree with something, then the church ought to do a better job of explaining itself.

Well, that would be because the Eucharist is celebrated at every Catholic Mass. Catechesis on sexuality is not.

Not given the abysmal numbers that do not know that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist, or worse those who reject that teaching.

But again, it is a teaching and not open for debate regardless of how many fail to understand it or who reject it.
