I’m not pointing out as an insult, and I’m not saying it just because you’re considering leaving the church. I’m mentioning it because you seem to have a lot of anxiety and confusion about your faith and you seem to bounce back and forth a lot. Maybe it’s because of your condition.

That in no way makes you a bad person or anything. I’m just saying maybe ask yourself if your anxieties and confusion about your faith could be coming from that and not the Church itself.

Well I have e a Baptist friend who wears a Crucifix chain/necklace around his neck. He doesn’t have a problem with it and he is quite involved in his church. I would not let it bother you, should not bother them.

With all respect, I disagree. There is nothing wrong with wearing a Crucifix. Most Protestants should not have a problem with it. My friends and family that are not Catholic don’t anyway.

Perhaps you should consider learning more about the CC before you look for alternatives
I know enough. I think I might be ready for a change. You know, I really hate seeing such divisions between Catholics and Protestants. Here, everybody is against Protestantism, on CARM, they’re against Catholicism. I wish people could just accept others for who they are.
Then my ND friend (different ND church) is always trying to get me to go to her church, while my Catholic friend is always talking about never leaving (and hence I shouldn’t leave) Catholicism.
I’m getting it from both sides and IMO, nobody’s right and nobody’s wrong. Just different.

My ND friend I just mentioned said to wear the Crucifix and that nobody should mind.

Not being or intending to be a smart butt. Didn’t you have a post about leaving the Church a month or so back? I maybe thinking of someone else though. Please don’t leave. I am a musician and a music fan. I love all kinds of music. Played in Hard Rock bands for many years. Don’t leave the fullness and richness of the faith because you like the music at another church better. You can go to concerts and listen to Christian and Catholic Christian artist, rock or country artist or whatever music you like. The Catholic (and Orthodox Churches) are the only churches that have the divine presence of Christ in the Eucharist. A lot of Catholic churches I know have fellowship groups/programs. Join one of those. We do a lot of outreach and charitable things. We have fun and are very much filled with the Holy Spirit. I joined the Knights of Columbus, but that is just one of these groups with in the Church. There are all kinds of Catholic groups for men and women you can be a part of and help your parish and community. How much more could you possibly be filled with the Spirit doing that 😃

You might just want to put it under your shirt, might be easier, lol 😉

Ok, that is what I thought. Well I will be praying for you and hope you decide to stay with the Catholic Church. We all love you here and care about you. God be with you!

Someone has probably said this already, but I noticed that you seemed to suggest that Catholicism and Protestantism are just different but equal beliefs, ‘Nobody’s right and nobody’s wrong, just different.’

But you see, there is right and there is wrong. Look at it from a historical point of view, because as Blessed John Henry Newman, a famous convert from the 1800s said, ‘To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant.’

We can trace what we believe to Scripture AND the Tradition passed to the bishops and popes, from the early Church fathers, from the Apostles, from Jesus.

But If there’s no continuity to that, then belief is just matter of opinion, just a matter of pastors interpreting Scripture with no Tradition to back it up.

And I’ll add that the sacraments are too great to give up in search of a worship service that you like better, or a pastor who can preach well. Grace is conveyed and given to us through the sacraments. This is too much to give up.

Protestants who have been validly baptized are imperfectly joined to the Church. They are part of the Body of Christ, but they are not accepting the fullness of truth. No one is “against” them, we simply (especially we converts) wish that the Holy Spirit will draw them into full communion.

At the core, there are fundamental belefs that are diametrically opposed. They cannot both be right. Either the Body and Blood of Christ is truly present in the Eucharist or it is not. No middle ground,

Either Christ started a Church or He did not. One has to be true and the other has to be false.

Either Mary is born without original sin, remained a Virgin all of her life and was assumed into Heaven or she was just another woman. Can’t have it both ways.

Many of us have given up so much to be Catholic, it breaks our hearts to see someone speaks as if this beautiful truth as “just another way to be Christian” and be willing to walk away for externals.

If I end up choosing to stay in the Church, how can I have a more personal relationship with Jesus (not including the Eucharist), how can I enjoy the music more and how can I relate to the homily? Our priests just don’t make their homilies relatable. When they do say something relatable, can I jot down notes on paper or my phone?

Hope, what is it internally that will give you a more personal relationship with Jesus in the ND compared with Catholic Church?

You can always jot down notes on paper or your phone or even record the homily on your phone.

What type of music are you looking for in the Mass? Perhaps get on the liturgy committee and learn what music goes with what liturgy and seasons and start driving musical choices from whats available.

This is your journey though. We are all on the Journey home to God. We don’t all take the same path or march to the beat of the same drum.
Keep your mind and eyes on Jesus.

I realize you’re annoyed with me already (which I apologize for, although I stand by what I said) but here goes: you’re asking the wrong questions. For example “how can I enjoy the music more?”

It’s not a concert. The purpose is not to entertain you. That’s kind of a selfish way to approach worship, imo. If you want to hear some sick beats with light shows and a fog machine, go to a nightclub. This non-denominational Church will be gone in a hundred years. Cheap thrills produce a short term emotional high but they don’t last.

Your shabby Catholic Church you’re bagging on with its dull homilies and unimpressive music is the same church of the martyrs and saints down through the centuries. Its an unbroken line from Jesus Christ. But it will never have light shows, and the priest might be a lukewarm homilist. It happens. It’s not an amusement park. There are Catholics right now facing threats of death and torture. You can manage an off-key cantor and a priests mediocre homilies.

You’re trading away a beautiful 2000 year heritage for some empty special effects and energetic public speaking.

Maybe just consider that “Am I entertained right now?” is the wrong question to ask when you’re attempting to worship God.
