How many weeks is A.D. scheduled to air? I cant find it. The NBC website just says Sundays.
 
Okay, I’m officially impressed by this one. John is black which is kinda weird but not impossible if his parents or grandparents were converts to Judaism 🤷. It’s kind of a neat twist actually. But so far it’s not only respectful but fun. I’m one hour in and the Apostles are arguing whether Jesus will keep his promise to rise again, the guards are in place and Mary’s faith remains unshaken. Definitely will keep watching…

…And He’s back! What an awesome Ressurection scene! There’s a glowy angel and e’rything! Woo!

Recommendation level: Yeah baby! :clapping: :dancing: 🍿
 
It’s inaccurate. But you know what? I like it a lot.

I’m gonna be watching the TV a little more for the next 12 Sundays. 🙂
 
Directors and producers will always interpret/portray things slightly different but I’m loving it! I would rather watch biblical series like this on TV any day. So excited for next weeks episode. I was moved the whole time watching A.D.
 
Was last night one or two hours? I watched from 8-9. I thought it was good, but if I missed the first hour I probably missed a lot. The only apostles identities I was sure of were Peter and, of course, Judas. I wondered which apostle the black actor was supposed to be. I had to go to a neighbor’s house because my son didn’t want to watch it. I don’t want to impose on my neighbor for 11 more weeks so I may have to wait until it comes out on DVD. I was impressed with what I saw last night though.

It was only one hour. I liked that a whole episode was made of the time from death to resurrection.

Thanks. I am glad that I saw all of it then. I hope a lot of people watch to learn what happene d after the Resurrection.

Yes it was and shall only be an hour every Sunday. The black actor was John and according to the producers, they did that because they wanted a more diverse cast to appeal to everyone. I’m not mad at them for that. The man portraying Jesus is from Argentina. I think it was a smart move, race shouldn’t matter.

Methinks when it comes to Jesus, the stereotypical appearance is more important than the race, per se.

John as black is not that much of a stretch. Ethiopia was Jewish at the time. Scripture doesn’t say where SJn was from, so he could, in theory, have been familially from there.

I recorded it, but haven’t watched it yet. It’s good to hear some good first impressions.

Sophia Institute Press collaborated with author Mike Aquilina to produce some Catholic tie-in books for the series. Since I have pretty high regard for both that particular publisher and that particular author, I am optimistic. I am sure it won’t be perfect, but it’s just so neat to see such an oft-overlooked portion of Salvation History covered on screen on one of the major TV networks for 3 months!

There is no indication of how long the episode will remain on their website, but for something like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if they kept all the episodes online through the airing of the final episode. Sometimes they only keep the most recent 4 or 5 episodes online for a given TV show, though.

That’s pretty darn ridiculous actually. I mean the apostles don’t appeal to everyone if they’re all white? Goodness, where has our society gone?:rolleyes:

I did like the show though and will continue watching. I especially liked the characters of Pilate and his wife, who tried to talk sense into her husband, and Caiaphas and his wife, who was the devil on her husbands shoulder. Quite a contrast that the Roman wife cared about Jesus and the Jewish Rabbi’s wife wanted to be rid of Him…

I don’t mind him being black, but James and John were brothers, and called Sons of Thunder, so I believe he was just Jewish. Mary struck me as Kind of whiny and much older than I thought. Roma Downey played her in the Bible series and I wished she had played her again. All in all though loved it. Am looking forward to the DVDs though. Way too many commercials, and one of them was Meet the Mormons! Should have had one Catholics Come Home.
 
My wife recorded the 1st episode and watched it tonight.

We like it very much.

Far better than Roma Downey and Mark Burnett’s work, “Son of God,” which I saw at the theater and thought it wasn’t all the good. However, it was better than Killing of Jesus which stunk.

I thought this series was made by Roma Downey and her husband.

It is made by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, but so was Son of God, which I was referring to as not being all that good.

They did a much better job with this series, A.D. but they have more time than they did with Son of God.

I see what you are saying. I saw The Bible, but did not see Son of God.
Are they both Catholic?
 
I watched the first episode and I liked it so far. I found it much better than “The Bible”, which I feel took too many creative liberties.

But that’s only the first episode, so you’d forgive me if I remain a bit suspicious after the hair-raising liberties took in “The Bible”.

I’m just quoting what the producers said. I don’t mind the diversity even if it’s not what I always grew up thinking they looked like. The message is what matters.

I actually like how mother Mary looks in this adaption. More like a ‘Mom’, if that makes any sense.
