    I think this forum could use a decent talk about Islam. Please lets keep this decent and open and not cover our ears and yell. Who has a question to ask or a statement?

i think that islam is born out of judaism but is imperfect because it does not acknowledge Jesus’ claims about himself as the Messiah, the Son of God, and God incarnate.
 
You missed the big discussions by a few weeks. But good luck finding many people who have a very good understanding of Islam- there are a few out there in the fora, but don’t expect any miracles. (Whether you believe in them or not!😃 :rolleyes: 🤷 )

You are not the first Muslim to come here hoping to explain your faith, and some of those who have come may have explained fundamentals differently. You might find some people have heard things about Islam- from practising Muslims on these boards- that contradict what you believe about your religion.

Most people will try to be respectful, but…

Hmmm…ya I read some things on here and alot of people seem to get very…angry when it comes to Islam. But here is a question I have for christians: why do you say Allah is a different God than the One you worship when even Jesus called God by Allah?

Even so, there are differences between the Allah of Islam and the God of Christianity, more than just a name difference.

Christians, for the most part, believe in the Trinity, that God is three persons (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) while remaining One God. I have heard it said that Muslims believe this is polytheism. Is that much true?
 
Muslims are told according to Quran and the Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) to say to Christians, Jews ect… let us not argue and come together for we worship the same God as he revealed to you the Scrolls to Ibrahim, the tablets to Musa, the Psalms to Dawud and the Injeel to Isa so he did to us. We do worship the same God brother. The Christian Trinity does have a polytheistic element saying God is in Three people.
 
Though it is a nice idea to try to focus on what is similar, we cannot fully understand each other until we know what is different.

As for the Trinity…
We in this universe have limited understanding and perception, we cannot fully understand God. But we know that he is Three persons, but one God, not three gods in some symbiotic relationship, One. God. Time and space, numbers, and all these things we understand are parts of this universe. God exists outside the universe. Thus we cannot understand Him totally. Make sense?

A good way to understand Christianity is to read Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis, if you haven’t already. Not all of it, neccessarily, but parts of it would be very helpful if you are interested. Do you have any similar source about Islam? Just wondering.

Some book besides the Koran, or Quran, or however you prefer to spell it. Something that lists Islamic beliefs in a way that most Muslims would agree with.

It is sad there is so much misunderstanding between Christianity and Islam, perpetuated for centuries. Perhaps we can come one step closer to sorting it all out…

Welcome and peace to you! Thank you for wanting to discuss and explain. Hopefully you will be met with politeness. Hopefully you can answer a question for me. I have seen it said that the Koran has two sets of rules when dealing with Christians and Jews. One says that they should be allowed to practice their faith in peace if they pay a fee of some sort. The other says that they should be forced to convert or die. Is this a misunderstanding on my part?
 
No the Quran teaches that people should be allowed to practice their faith. The Quran and the Prophet(pbuh) both STRESSED no compulsion in religion. Under Muslim rulers this was usually upheld.When you read the Quran and it says things like drive them out and kill them where you find them it is specifically referring to the Pagans who hunted Muslims and brutally slaughtered them. As a matter of fact Muslims and Christians got along great. It was actually the Christian King of Ethiopia who let Muslims take refuge with him.

Good to see a person of another faith come here in peace willing to explain his beliefs. I have a few questions about Muhammad. My understanding is he started his life in Mecca and then moved to Medina where his following grew and eventually the majority of the city was Muslim. The question I have is, I have heard from several sources that his following in Medina and Muhammad himself took Mecca by violence and made it their holy city. I have no bias toward it being so or not, just wondering if this is true or false.

Also, I’m interested to hear a Muslims point of view on the, commonly called, ‘Crusades’ to Jerusalem. Mainly focusing on the idea that Christians on pilgrimages to Jerusalem were frequently attacked and killed by Muslims, resulting in a need for armed guards as protection during the journey. This fact commonly said to be a major factor in the Crusades occurring.

     I do believe that the prophet took back Makkah by force, after one or more of the leader reverted to Islam.Not completely sure...I would suggest this to you and everyone else though: Rent or buy the move "The Message" it is the story of the Prophet(pbuh) and Islam. 

  I of course think the Crusades were ridiculous. Muslims leaders are and always have been to allow Christians and Jews visit Jerusalem. Makkah is different though.

  1. What do you believe your faith teaches about violence, is it ever not sinful to perform acts of violence other than self-defense?
  2. Do you condone the actions of groups like Al-Qaida? If so why?
  3. Do you condone persecution of Christians in Muslim countries like Turkey if it occurs? If so why?

No problem…

1.Violence should only be used in certain circumstances. These would be 1. Self Defense 2. defense of another 3.Jihad
Jihad does not mean suicide bombings ect… as suicide is forbidden no matter the reason. The lesser Jihad is that if a Muslim country comes under attack every Muslim should rise up to protect that country.
  1. No. They use suicide bombings ect… and attack civilians.
3.No. Islam teaches that you should not force faith on anyone. Everyone has the right to choose what they do with there lives.
Now concerning the Al Queda thing. I condone suicide and killing of innocents. But I do think fighting soldiers is justifiable.
