I would imagine Leah Remini’s new show on A&E will eventually cover the pending lawsuit alleging the Church of Scientology forced its members to have abortions (allegations that were corroborated on the “20/20” from last year). Here’s the LifeNews source of that story:
lifenews.com/2016/05/02/church-of-scientology-accused-of-forcing-woman-to-have-abortion/

Every time Scientology has been mentioned on CAF, whether it’s the book and theatrical-released (HBO-premiered) documentary “Going Clear” or the “20/20”, a lot of Catholics simply don’t want to talk about Scientology. Not sure why – I do know it’s time for their U.S. “tax-exempt” status to be revoked, and I really hope Trump will consider it.

God bless Leah Remini. 👍

The whole “religion” sounds nutty. It’s a cult. Is there ever any mention of God? Why is there a cross of sorts on their buildings. It’s scary that so many people would follow them.

The show is eye opening.

Anxious to watch it. I always find it fascinating that people dismiss the facts of Christianity but can readily jump into a cult. :hypno:

My cable company already has it “on demand.” 👍 watch it. It’s scary.

There is a Scientology church about 2 miles from me, the church used to be a Baptist church, it is the largest church in the area, the building alone is HUGE. When they first bought it, many people thought they would not last long, but here we are 3 yrs later and every time I drive past their parking lot is packed, there is always lots of people around, whats strange is, they are right across the street from a Church of God

The area they are in has helped them recruit many people though, they draw people in from the street, have them watch multiple videos, and they seem to be pretty successful at growing their numbers.

I have always wondered why they have crosses on their buildings too because I don’t think Jesus is a part of Scientology and we know what the Cross represents in Christianity.
I watched the show the other night It is really frightening and shocking. I am sure
The Church of Scientology is not happy about it.

Just goes to show you how little people know about faith. A whole generation grew thinking that whatever you believe is just fine, and especially if you have no belief. No worries. Just do whatever you want.
So they fall victim to those who “love bomb” them. Sad.

I watched last week’s show but not this week’s yet. I thought it was really interesting. What hasn’t been emphasized too much (so far) is the fact that David Miscavige’s wife has been “missing” for years. This is why lightbulbs started going off for Leah in the first place (as I understand it).

Considering how Scientology treats "problem’ members that need “reprogramming”, and the amount of staff and cult members and vast properties at David’s disposal…I tremble to think of what’s happened (or happening) to Shelly. The police have been in touch with her since concerns were raised, but that doesn’t make me feel any better about it. Cults can be devious. Did they interview her alone? Are the police officers who went to do a check on her friendly to or part of Scientology?

Here’s an interesting article about her: tonyortega.org/2015/09/07/ten-years-gone-shelly-miscavige-the-wife-scientologys-leader-wants-us-to-forget/. I cannot verify the validity of the site or of the information, but it does certainly raise alarm bells.

Edit: Please note the article I linked to quotes foul language

Episode 2 is just as shocking. Unbelievable the evil this organization is capable of.

I have an employee that was once lured into one of their drug rehabs out in CA, he said it was very clever how they tricked him into admitting himself and the legal problems it created for him when he tried to leave.

He had the idea to use a family funeral back home as to time to escape, but when he was leaving for the airport, the rehab sent 2 guys with him to ensure he returns! He said he even tried to ask a cop for help at the airport, but this is where the ‘legal problems’ started for him, basically he was forced to go back, and no way he could get out of it.

He eventually escaped though, but it took a lot of help from his family and planning to get him out of their compound without any escorts.

It seems so strange to me that so many people would join that “church”. They have no belief in God, but they do believe they are a spiritual being. They believe they have lived before. I think aliens have something to do with their narrative. It is so far-fetched, I can’t believe anyone would follow it, but follow it they do.

I just watched the recent episode with Marc Headley, who has written a book.
He and his wife got out after 13 years of marriage in the cult. They were married, but as a “Sea Org” member", she was not allowed to bear children. Well, she became pregnant and was forced to have an abortion! So sad!! She cries about it on the show; says “there are some things you can never really get over” (paraphrasing). His mother is still in the cult; a former Catholic. Tampabay.com did a video on 4 women who had forced abortions:
No Kids Allowed

Ms. Remini needs a lot of prayer! She is doing a good work in exposing this evil. There is also a lot of child abuse that goes unreported. The child is told the abuse was brought on by themselves; read that on a blog. Mrs. Headley said one of her friends, when they were 7, was “invited to play” in a middle-aged members’ office. The girl was abused - no details given.

I wonder if there is a fb page for Remini. We could tell her we are praying for her and the members who have left. The Poor Clares (and other groups) could pray specifically for this work to continue and succeed in bringing down the cult and also for the souls of those who have been damaged - I pray they will find redemption, peace and healing in the Catholic Church. I intend to follow up on this soon.

I know Ms. Remini had her 11 yo daughter baptized Catholic. That is the family’s religious tradition. The way she swears and uses vulgar language, though, is not a great witness. Hope she will realize this eventually. Maybe there is a way to send her some religious medals she can have blessed and will wear and perhaps share.

Glad more ppl are getting knowledgeable about the Scientology SCAM.

Peace - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Mimi

I watched an episode last night, and although I find these stories deeply troubling I don’t like jumping to any conclusions until I hear the other side. As Catholics our Church has been on the receiving end of endless accusations and smear campaigns and I wonder if there isn’t a little bit of that going on here. I must admit that I’m mostly ignorant about what Scientologists believe.

I have watched a few of the episodes. I also find the stories troubling and I am surprised more people have not left. I would love to know what Tom Cruise and John Travolta think of the show.
Sometimes I get a little frustrated wanting to know more about a certain story. it definitely sounds like a cult and not a church. I still don’t know why they have a rendition of a cross atop their buildings.
I don’t know if this show will be enough to make people not join.
it must be hard to know you spent 28-42 years there with nothing to show for it.

Don’t worry that it’s a smear campaign. The image and information presented to the public and to new members is quite different than the reality. They tell you you can believe in whatever god you want in the beginning but that is not what they teach at the higher levels. The Scientology building I went to for an audit had a picture of Jesus on the wall and I vaguely remember a framed poem about God so it looks Christanity-friendly. Everything they offer requires money or payment. If you want to advance in your career, if you want to overcome something holding you back you must take their courses and they aren’t free.

If you want to know what they teach you can Google it. It doesn’t matter what they teach about Xenu, etc. though because that is not the main problem. The thing that is concerning is that they lie about what they teach. The Cathoilic church doesn’t lie about what it teaches. What is taught to folks in the pews is the same thing as what is offered to non-Catholics or non-beleivers. The pope, the bishops are bound by the same teachings and while they have greater authority in the church that authority stops at church teaching. They cannot demand your money, they cannot tell you to disassociate from family and friends. People in positions of authority in the Catholic church have lied about certain matters and tried to cover up crimes and protected the guilty instead of the victims. The church will continue to suffer as long as those in authority continue to do that even on a small scale.

They seem to depend upon people not jumping to conclusions, because if you did, you would never believe what they do. They are not a religion, they are a business cult, although the lower level people are not privy to that information.

Moneyball, watch the rest of the episodes and then tell us what you think.

I’ve been watching the A&E Scientology, and it seems to be much more troubling then I first thought. What I’ve read most troubling is on Wikipedia( I know it may not be 100% )…

"In August 1945 Hubbard moved into the Pasadena mansion of John “Jack” Whiteside Parsons. A leading rocket propulsion researcher at the California Institute of Technology and a founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Parsons led a double life as an avid occultist and Thelemite, follower of the English ceremonial magician Aleister Crowley and leader of a lodge of Crowley’s magical order, Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO). He let rooms in the house only to tenants who he specified should be “atheists and those of a Bohemian disposition”.

When I seen “Aleister Crowley” and the occult…such bad, bad news.

Stay well away

There was a time in my life I could have probably gotten pulled in to Scientology. I think I bought one of his books, but I don’t think I read much of it. Someone had a booth set up at a fair and spoke to me about it. I am glad I didn’t get hooked. I was not a practicing Christian at the time and was really into astrology.
