A funny thing happened at work today

I am a nurse at a Catholic hospital, just for background. Anyway, I had a bag of those metal finger Rosaries, the kind that has a crucifix and 10 beads that you can slip over your finger or carry in your pocket.

Last week one of my co-workers saw one that someone had and liked it, so I dug out the bag and brought it to work. There was about a dozen in the bag. I gave her one and it was incredible–everyone who saw it asked for one–even the non-Catholics. Even one of the Docs insisted on one. They all put them on the clips of their name badges. I ran out of finger Rosaries and have to bring more on Monday because people are asking for them. Everyone kept saying what a nice peaceful day we were going to have, and how everyone was getting along and things were going so well.

Can you believe it?:eek: I’m still flabberghasted.
 
Our daughter was born 3 months prematurely under traumatic circumstances, and my wife’s health hung in the balance as well - fortunately all took place in a Catholic hospital. I can remember thanking God and knowing that it was the faith and prayers of everyone that brought us all through the situation. To see those NICU doctors and nurses proudly carrying their pocket Rosaries on their name badges like you describe, ashes on their forehead during Ash Wednesday, etc. and knowing that the chaplain came and prayed with our daughter daily for the two months she stayed there, whether we were there or not - made all the difference.

I shared all of that not for sympathy, but rather because your testimony caused it to come flooding back into memory for me. In short, I just wanted to say BLESS YOU for lighting a holy fire in your work place - you may never know just how many lives will be touched.
 
I have ceased being surprised where the Blessed Virgin in involved, but I am always in “awe”…

Thats a good idea! I have one of those finger Rosaries and think I’m going to put one on my badge clip now too. Thanks for the idea.
 
And watch those non-Catholics carefully! Many years ago a co-worker gave me a rosary and some religious medals. I had never held anything like them in my hands before. Three years ago this Easter Vigil when I joined the church I made sure to send a thank-you letter to this gentleman.
 
I’ve been wearing mine for about two weeks now on my badge clip and I get some questions about it. I even overheard some co-workers of mine from afar that Catholics worship Mary and that it isn’t right putting Mary before God. The good thing is this allowed me to correct one of them at a later time…which quickly led to the correcting of the other. It gave me a chance to show the Hail Mary in scripture and explain why we pray “with” saints. Gives an opportunity for people to come to me to be evangelized instead of me hunting them down.

Yes, they can be an opportunity to share your faith. I brought another bag of about 50 today, and when I left, only about half of them were still in the bag! I left them on the counter. I am just amazed at how popular they are. Some of the non-Catholic Christians have said “I like wearing it for the blessing”. They don’t have anything Marian on them, but do have a crucifix, which people like. They feel blessed, which is a good thing.
 
i always keep a few handy …i gfind them great for praying with…not even praying the rosary just for counting your prayers on…it sort of focuses your mind rather than it wandering around…and they are so small too that they fit in a pocket
