Here is a family history. Supposedly they were Calvinist New Englanders. However, one member of the family wrote fiction that seems to me to have had a somewhat Catholic perspective.

One author in 1880 thought that he could be related to newadvent.org/cathen/14208a.htm However, as uninterested as Catholics are in genealogy, does anybody have any information on this? 😉 It would be GREAT if he were in some way related to Bishop Martin John Spalding, or Maryland Catholics in any way.

I hope this is the best place for such a question-- Church History and Social Justice are related, given the rampant anti-Catholicism in those days.

why do you say this? many Catholics have a great interest in genealogy. It was actually my profession for a while and I assure you many Catholics belonged to the organization which employed me. One of our duties as an official records management institution for our state was in fact preserving church records, including microfilm of Catholic sacramental and other records. Just as a tip, if you want to find out if a notable person of the same name has shared ancestors you begin as you always do, with the current generation and work back on your line and collateral lines to find the answer, it is usually fruitless to begin with the older generations and work forward.
