Tonight as I was sitting my my marketing management class a kid whom I never talked to before got up and did a presentation which wasn’t due for 3 more weeks. As he finished and went to his desk to get his stuff before leaveing I asked him where he was going. He stated i’ll be in Iraq in 2 weeks. I stood up and said god bless you and thanks for your service. The whole class erupted in applause as he exited. I don’t recall his name but to me this kid is a true hero.

Also, my Scout troop made a poster for a soldier in Iraq who shipped out 3 weeks ago. He left Phoenix by plane, alone.

There are some great heros out there.

No family or friends to see him off? How sad.

I hope those boys will keep up contact with him.

God bless you both, Gilliam and this young man. What an encouraging story. Thanks. 👍

i know this is heartfelt and all, but my brother being at the end of his second tour over there has told me repeatedly that Iraq had almost nothing to do with terrorism before we invaded.

he said that much of the time in country taking ground and city during the actual “war” before “mission accomplished”, that there wasnt this kind of insurgent resistance.

his view and experience is that the invasion kindled a united jihad of previously rival factions. like al-zarquawi declaring allegiance to bin laden. think Saddam would have let zarquawi live had he done that while Saddam was still in power? Saddam was a SECULAR dictator, and did not like radical fundamentalists like bin laden and zarquawi.

they dont care about differences with each other [for now], they only care about killing americans.

these poor guys going over there are when there is no clear exit strategy. they are heros for sure, but they are heros because they are helping clean up the mess Bush created. once the US leaves, what is left of the insurgency will turn on each other again, and presto, civil war.

these poor guys have to go over now and try to make sure that doesnt happen. Id love to see Bush send his two drunk daughters over there with little or no body armor.

instead, this guy you speak about and my brother and doing the dirty work while the Bush twins slurp and snort their way to happiness.

MY VIEW: if there is a war or “mission”, ALL ELIGIBLE CHILDREN of presidents, congressmen, and Secretaries are enlisted and the first to be deployed.

the president shall not be commander in chief UNLESS he/she has EXTENSIVE COMBAT EXPERIENCE. if he/she does not, it falls to the NEXT person with such experience in the chain of command.

that would solve just about every problem of a president going to war or sending troops into disasters.

As much I am opposed this war, and even this thread, let’s not hijack it with controversy. (as there are more than enough threads already concerning the war). I don’t want this thread to get ugly.

Gilliam, what a great story…

NO MATTER WHAT people say negatively… That boy is a hero! God bless him.
