A letter from Bishop Slattery: Countering with Prayer the proposed Black Mass in Oklahoma City

Ya know what? If the object of said Satanic religion’s rites was to defile a Koran publically and at a show that tickets could be bought for and to publically strike out against Muslims and mock the Islamic religious rites, do you think they’d allow it? I really don’t think in the public political climate currently dictating what is acceptable behavior, anyone would tolerate such displays of bad taste and poor judgment. If the Islamic religion was the show’s target, it wouldn’t have been allowed at all.

While I was reading about this topic, I once again hear myself saying, “Where is this country headed.” I don’t like in any way the idea of the black mass. After having a moment to calm down, I have some thoughts. Big public Christian protests will be enjoyed by these types of people. We don’t want to give them any satisfaction in knowing how hurt we are. Put our efforts into trying to prevent this becoming a recurring event in OK city or other cities. Our Catholic Communities should come together and strengthen our resolve to welcome people to experience the beauty of our faith.

*Bishop Slattery is asking the faithful in the Diocese of Tulsa to keep the nine days prior to the Feast of the Assumption (August 6-14) as “a period of extraordinary prayer and penance,” requesting them to abstain from meat during that time, and if possible to fast. “This will be a hard sacrifice, I know,” he said. “But I also know that Jesus said certain demons could only be cast out by prayer and fasting.” He asked that Catholics would “consecrate [their] hunger during these nine days, by a daily recitation of one decade of the Rosary, and the familiar prayer of St. Michael.” Finally, Bishop Slattery asked priests of the diocese to say the Leonine prayer, written by Pope Leo XIII for the defense of the Church against the attack of the enemy and his apostate angels.” *

It will be a trial to observe this time of prayer and penance (no meat for nine days!!:eek:) but for Our Lord, I think many of us can do it! 👍 Today (8/6) is day #`1
 
What I don’t get is why someone doesn’t point out that if it is a Consecrated Host, it was stolen. Wouldn’t that make such a ritual illegal?
 
The bishops are doing exactly the right thing. But how many “Catholic” hearts will truly participate in faith and authentic worship? That is the question.
