A major problem.

One, if not the major problem I have as a Protestant is listening to Catholics claim that the RCC is the one true church founded by Jesus.

Now I understand that Catholics are taught this idea, but why can’t Catholics understand how abrasive that is?
.
Grace and peace to you brother. It is unfortunate that people find it abrasive, but it happens to be the Truth. Virtually all knowledgable Protestants acknowledge that the Catholic Church was the only Christian Church in the west up until the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
However, we find it equally abrasive that some guys in the 16th century invented man made doctrines which run counter to the understanding of Holy Scripture of those who learned the Faith at the very feet of the Apostles. All of the writings of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd century Christians are available for anyone who cares to read them and they are totally Catholic.

God bless and watch over you.

Your brother in Christ.

I see a good deal of accusations being cast about, but nothing specific. This whole thread is and anti-Catholic rant, albeit a marginally polite one.

Instead of scolding Catholics, it is probably better to ask honest questions about specific areas of faith and morals rather than meaningless and subjective accusations filled with pejoratives.
Seems worth repeating.

Someone just trying to stir the pot and get angry reactions. This entire thread is nothing but bait.

You think dogma and truth are antithetical?
Sometimes, certainly. Of course Catholics can’t believe that because to Catholics dogma is truth.

I guess I studied too much science. Being a scientist means that truth is never found with certainty. Science demands being open to new knowledge even if it contradicts past knowledge. Catholicism demands rigid adherence to the teaching of the church.

I’ve been fascinated by people who are brilliantly intelligent and vastly educated who can practice Catholicism. I’ve come to understand some of that, but for the most part that still remains a mystery to me.

Did the Apostles demand “rigid adherence” to their teachings? Did Christ? Does this argument work against Christianity as a whole, or are you only willing to go as far as the Catholic Church?
Being a scientist means that truth is never found with certainty.
Is this a certain truth?

God bless

I’ve studied more than a small amount of science myself. For the most part, you do not prove things, you fail to disprove. At some point, a hypothesis is accepted as a theory. Some theories become laws. All that I am asking of you is the “disproof” of our stance that Christ founded the Catholic Church. I would also like to see why you feel that there is no reason to care even if Christ DID found the Catholic Church.

As an aside, in what field did you study? I was a chemistry major/math and history minor at first, but I ended up in psychology (minors in Chem, math, and history).

Such statements demonstrate you know considerably less about Catholicism than you think you do.

But instead of trying to learn, all you do is mock, accuse and bait. I and other on this thread do not see any evidence that you are sincerely trying to learn anything. All we see is someone who makes accusations.

That isn’t true at all.
Prove this is not true by altering your behavior, cease scolding people, end the use of pejorative terms and statements and start asking sincere questions then listen to the answers.

This will be a fun game: I hold two degrees and graduated Summa Cum Laude… I guess I hold the floor until someone unseats me… Anyone have a PHD in here? 😃

Back to the discussion, why does it matter what a person’s academic credentials are? Does a person who doesn’t measure up to your academic credentials make their argument invalid?

God bless
I was accused of being a fifteen year old and that I probably didn’t have a degree in anything. I was replying in a way that I thought was honest. I hold three college degrees, including a doctorate and I have taught at a major university. Big deal. All I was trying to do was refute the notion that I am a juvenile without significant education. It really doesn’t matter.

The answer to the problem why Catholics boldly claim to be the only One Church established by Jesus Christ can be found in the passage of 1 Tim 3:15,

“if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.”

I take the Words of Scripture as is when it interpreted in accordance with the Magisterium.

Most Protestants find this hard to believe because they were brought up that way.

I don’t think they really believe Jesus established one Church and believe that the original Church fell into error.

These claims would contradict Jesus’ promise that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it and his promise that he will be with us until the end of age.

I don’t know about you, but I put my trust in Jesus Christ, not some Protestant Reformer who preach Bible Alone as the sole role of faith for all Christians.

I am sorry someone would accuse you of being a 15 year old, and also that someone would imply that someone is not worth listening to simply because they may or may not have a degree.

However if you would please answer my other questions: Look at post #74, and tell me why the things that other Protestants say about us Catholics do not unnerve you as much as what Catholics claim about themselves.

Maybe I just have never ran across it but I have never read or heard of a Catholic talk about their Protestant brother’s and sisters in the manner which Spurgeon, Watson, James and countless other Protestants have talked about Catholics.

If nothing else you can agree that it goes both ways. Not that it is right or wrong, but that Protestants are just as guilty as you believe Catholics are.

Because we all know Jesus won the medal at Jerusalem U, of course

Ok, I re-read the posts, you are talking about post #90 from mercygate. He didn’t accuse you, he asked that for clarification, as he stated, he would have to frame his answers differently whether you were 15 or had a PhD.

In addition to just stirring the pot, you are now lying openly. You’ve ignored all of my posts, I’m calling you out. This “I’m so wounded” routine is pathetic. You started this thread to agitate us, and I’ve shown that you are openly lying to us. I’m removing this one from my list, it’s quite evident that you just want controversy, not answers.

PS - BS Engineering Physics, MS Applied Mathematics. No PhD, but hard sciences from a major University also.

This is the kind of attack that is so unattractive.
What attack? The poster was pointing out that Catholics are one of the least vitriolic of the major religions out there. How was that even close to an attack???

I haven’t lied at all. I am not looking for trouble.
