On mrc.org they had this snippet:

“Plugging the next segment of Barbara Walters’ interview with George and Laura Bush, the ABC announcer on Friday’s 20/20 previewed a look at what “four more years” of the Bush presidency will mean for “your right to choose.” Walters lectured Bush from the left about how the public is “afraid” of what a “conservative” Supreme Court may do: “**The majority of Americans do not want to see the Supreme Court overturn the right of a woman to have abortion, **especially within the first three months, Roe v. Wade. But they’re afraid that a conservative court may do that.””

I’m just curious. Are there any statistics on American’s opinion of this? Or is Barbara Walters just assuming this is not what we want? Because I know Ms Walters does not speak for me.

This is what the media wants the public to believe. It works like this. If the perception is that MOST Americans do not want it overturned, there is increased pressure on an individual to go with the majority.

However, reality is quite different. A significant majority opposes the decision of Roe V. Wade, especially in light of it’s allowance of abortion at any time in any situation.

The leftists are petrified because they know they are in the minority. Time to push down on the gas pedal.

I would venture a guess that she is probably correct.

Again, just guessing, I think 25% want R v W overturned, 25% want it kept no questions asked, and the vast middle, are willing to accept Roe-- aren’t inclined to support it’s complete downfall, BUT…

are VERY open to limiting abortion in common sense ways legislatively.

So while the overturning of Roe v Wade may not have overwheming support, I feel very optimistic that smart pro-life politicians can do very well in moving our culture in the right direction. In requires patience!! STEPS.
  1. PBA ban.
  2. Lacy/Connor Law (Victims of Violence)
  3. Parental consent Laws
  4. Sonogram requirements
  5. Waiting periods
All this can happen.

Now, none of it can happen unless we have decent judges over the next quarter-century…

I think a lot of people don’ t understand, that overturning Roe doesn’t automatically outlaw abortion in the 50 states. It just goes back to the states who would then have the power to legislate restrictions, or outlaw in individual states.

  1. I don’t believe the majority of americans don’t want this overturned.
  2. If it’s true I have no problem being in the minority and speaking my mind.

GOD + 1 is a majority.

I don’t think alot of people give abortion a second thought really. Most people would say that they themselves would never want one, but they couldn’t tell others what to do etc. I think those people would tend to vote for abortion and that would put us in the minority. I have hope that I am wrong on this though.

Didn’t we just pass a PBA ban recently? And was it also overturned? I may not be clear on my facts. Thanks in advance for clarifications!!

Yes, it was passed by congress and was signed by the president. And yes, it is being currently challenged legally.

And that is where it belongs - in the democratic process.

It can happen much quicker than we think if we push forward - the time is right as it will ever be - right now.

Let’s put it this way. The majority is opposed to what Roe V. Wade allows - “generally available legal abortion” as shown in this article:

priestsforlife.org/columns/column98-9-14polls.htm

The problem is that most people don’t even know what Roe V. Wade allows - we need to educate them.

if you watched the Barbara Walters interview with our president and his spouse,… they don’t want it overturned either…

We are not a society based on what the majority want. If you had asked the majority of people if they wanted LBJ’s ‘Great Society’ programs most would have said no. We are a society based on law and the law should do what is right not what most people want. Abortion is murder and murder is wrong. If Roe V Wade were overturned it would not effect 90% of us, however having it effects us all, because who knows what we have deprived the world of by killing these innocent babys? One of them could have come up with a cure for cancer or a new source of energy. By the way I am not saying LBJ’s ‘Great Society’ was good or bad, just that it became the law of the land and most people were not for it.

I didn’t watch it - so I guess that means they do want it overturned?

Kidding.

What in the interview makes you think that (I really didn’t see it)?

Sorry, but the laws of our country are what the majority want. If it was otherwise, the lawmakers who support abortion would be gone. The truth is that we are a hedonistic society and we put lawmakers in power who look after “number 1.” Our society accepts abortion and that will not change untill we start putting the well being of “others” first. We have to put the life of the unborn above our next purchase of a color tv or whatever it is that “we” want.

In very liberal People’s Republic of Massachusetts the ADoB prolife office was practically closed until this election. Since the crisis in the Church everything has been put on hold. After the election the WAL breakfast sold out and they had to move to a larger room. It was the first time they had people reserving whole tables. I think people are more prolife than the media wants us top believe. I think it is how they word polls. So far all the events have been blow outs and the babyshowers are bringing in more stuff for mothers and children in need than even before as well cash donations. It’s as if after the election it was OK for us in Mass to be prolife. Let’s hope it lasts!

In the case of Roe V Wade I don’t disagree that if we got rid of the lawmakers who support it we could get it changed. I think we are on the same side, I was trying to point out that our laws should not reflect what the majority wants but what is right. Maybe I did not make myself clear. I don’t care what most people want, abortion is wrong and we should not allow it. Just my opinion.
