A Medjugorje handkerchief

a lady who periodically distributes devotional articles related to an apparition the Church has actually denounced (I can’t recall which) just outside the doors.
This to me is a different matter. When the Church denounces an apparition publicly, there’s usually a good reason why, such as the alleged visionary is claiming things contrary to Catholic teaching or is committing fraud.

These apparitions are supported by many catholics and rejected by others. In any case, the topic is not permitted here except for perhaps a yes or no answer.

You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles? 17 So, every sound tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears evil fruit. 18 A sound tree cannot bear evil fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit…

The lives of the Our Lady of La Salette visionaries were also not exemplary. Yet the Church approved that one.

I do wonder sometimes why visionaries do not all end up saintly like St. Bernadette or Sister Lucia.

Edited to add, and even in some cases where visionaries lead very saintly lives and their writings get nihil obstats and imprimaturs, it seems to take soooooo long for the Church to take official positions on the visions, if indeed they ever do.

Just speculation, but maybe God chooses people who He knows won’t end up saintly sometimes to remind us we don’t merit miracles, He chooses to give give them? I don’t think I’m explaining it right, but maybe it’s so we pay more attention to the message and the Author, rather than the people who deliver it?

One principle in the church’s discernment process is the requirement that the apparitions have come to an end in order for a ruling to be made.

Some of the visionaries have chosen deliberately to be very obscure. I think the one who saw Our Lady of Banneux made a comment very similar to yours about how she was only supposed to be the postman who delivered Our Lady’s message, and having done so, she herself was of no further interest and people should focus on the message.

Medjugorje is even more complicated because the writings of Maria Valtorta were mentioned. :man_shrugging:t2: It’s a quagmire.

Well, it’s frustrating when a particular set of writings and a devotion are approved with imprimaturs of 2 bishops, and said devotion is being practiced all over several continents apparently with the approval of the bishops and archbishops, and yet the Church is still relatively silent on the matter. How much “good fruit” does something have to bear to get a word out of the Church?
EDITED TO ADD: This post is NOT referring to any Medjugorje devotion, it’s referring to a different one I didn’t name because of the concern about discussing unapproved apparitions.

He could probably notify the local police, but that may be killing an ant with a boulder, so to speak.

Precisely. Excellent synopsis 👍 You don’t have to believe it’s the truth. However, as an initial skeptic of Valtorta I couldn’t deny the excellent character development and dialogue. One day, it’ll be the basis of a tv show.

Just general ‘pubic irritant’ if she’s on a city sidewalk… but good for him for not doing so

Thank you everyone for helping me and answering me so quickly. I will discern what to do with it then. Sorry if the topic was not allowed. It is being/has been a very interesting discussion.

To be honest, I have taken the gift more like a reminder or a sign. Today’s reading was The Prodigal Son and the Mass was focused on mercy. Yesterday was Joseph and his brothers.
I am struggling with the concet of self-worth for some time. After prayer and reflecting, I think I have to take a step into a new stage on my life and in my faith, yet it is not going to be easy.

It is hard for me embracing the idea that my worth comes from God’s Love and being created in His own image and likeness, and only focusing on His Infinite Love and Goodness instead of my inner turmoil. Trusting completely in the Lord in the midst of the storm and letting go of my anxieties sure is also a challenge for me.

Nonetheless, when one has lost everything one enjoyed or had, when one is more dead inside than alive, what the world has to offer anymore? What can inspire worry, fear or anxiety anymore if one has nothing to lose, nothing to gain? Joy and Peace are from the Holy Spirit. Achievements or material possessions won’t provide those gifts. Just being created because of Love and being loved is what matters at the end of the day.

I am starting to think that the depression, the losings, the sufferings and anxieties were and are the path I had to walk to realize what truly matters and what not. Who knows, although I feel like it is the time to slowly moving on. Probably I have to learn and embrace the lesson first.

‘‘This son of mine was dead, and he has come to life again.’’ In conclusion, it is likely that the gift of the handkerchief is one of those little ways in which the Lord speaks to all of us (a reminder of His Love and Mercy) (Our Blessed Mother as well) and maybe I was paying too much attention to the form of the message. My personal view.

Sorry if the post seems a bit off or too long, I just think that it made clearer the point. Thank you again to those who take the time to reading this and to those who have participated.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t referring to Medjugorje in my post. Sorry I was confusing. Medjugorje does not enjoy the widespread support I mentioned and I am currently reserving my own judgment until the Vatican rules.

If the gift made you feel that God and Mary loved you, then that’s what’s important, not any sort of ultimate ruling on Medjugorje. God bless.

I have reason to believe that I nearly fell under possession from an item from Medjegorje.

Things That Go Bump In The Night - Spirituality
I had an experience/vision when I was around 9 years old. It’s indirectly connected to a well known Marian apparition from the Balkans involving several visionaries. One evening, my family was settling down to pray the rosary at the kitchen table. Facing me was a photograph of the Virgin Mary. It’s looks like a double exposure photograph of the Virgin Mary with a tree in the background, apparently taken at the sight of the apparition. My mom ran her fingers around the photograph, pointing out t…
I would never accept nor support anything to do with that place, but hey that’s just me.

Thank you for your answer and for sharing your experience. I have read your post. What an experience you lived. I will take it into consideration.

An examination of the positive fruits present at Medjugorje as well as the Vatican’s intense investigation speaks far louder than one nightmare. Once again, it’s not approved nor condemned. If it’s a hoax, then it’s extremely elaborate and well organized. If it’s from the devil, he’s been shooting himself in the foot for 30+ years.
