according to ancient witness accounts that’s absolutely untrue.

I want to see him executed and get the justice he deserves. If he is put in jail he will get the prayer rug, along with cable TV, three meals a day, snacks, visitors, board games, books, etc.
don’t forget the H1N1 vaccine shot too - he could be first in line.

Thus the word ‘myth.’
I understand that Gitmo isn’t/wasn’t quite that nice, and neither is the Fed prison system. Even if it is, though…I don’t care. It is a defeat. This man will WANT to die, even as he fights the system. Dying is what will make him a martyr, and killing him will make him a hero in the eyes of the Muslims who now support him… I want him wasting away, dying in his bed, forgotten, ignored…and irrelevent.
Agreed. Myrtyrdom is what he would like. Give him life in solitary, no books, noTV, no visitors and if he gets lonely, give him a pig to keep him company.

don’t care. It’s not only about him, it’s about justice and deterrent (and just desert).

Bottom line, when he dies it’s over (no magical wonderland, no Allah waiting with open arms and a bunch of virgins, a quick dream & that’s all she wrote).

Although your idea isn’t bad 🙂

Well, the logic is this.

The Morris family of 10 has 8 boys. Mr & Mrs Morris themselves are devout & staunch believers of a faith that has a book in which certain chapters teaches its followers to slaughter non-believers. Of course, the Morris family lives a good life and have no need to resort to extremeties. These chapters therefore have little if any role to play in their lives. They continue to practice the faith praying 5 times a day perform their rituals.

One day, 2 two youngest boys lost their jobs and got into a fight with the local rogues. In their anger, they burnt and slaughtered the entire families of these people, some 20 of them and shouted that their ‘god’ was great for helping them to slaughter un-believers.

When questioned by reporters, Mr & Mrs Morris exclaimed that the carnage had absolutely no religious orientation to it and their boys merely defended themselves. 2 extremists do not equal to 1 extremist family.

The reporters of course had no reason to doubt this answer.

A year later, the 3rd, 4th, 5th,6th & 7th kids graduated and were out looking for jobs. Unable to land full-time jobs and having difficulties in those they had with fellow colleagues, the guys decided to blow up the office building they worked in. (Anyway, their 2 elder brothers were already in jail.)

Again, the reporters came, and parents said “7th kids does not equal to 1 terrorist family”.

True of course.

You see, even if there are 100,000 islamic terrorists today, it still DOES NOT MEAN ISLAM = TERRORISM.

When a person has cancer, the person has cancer in only specific areas of his body. You don’t cut off the ear when he has kidney & lung cancer. But one thing is for sure. The person will die of cancer eventually because having a good ear cannot save him.

Malik Hassan may not be representative of ALL muslims. But his behavior and character IS certainly TYPICAL MUSLIM. And I speak from decades of experience from working with muslims. America must learn that muslims should NEVER be allowed to fight alongside with non-muslims, because at the crux of the moment, when faced with an islamic enemy, you can be sure that the rifle held by the muslim american soldier will be pointed INWARDS and the entire army will be betrayed.

If god really existed why wouldn’t he simply give us a clearer indication that he wants our attention? Ludicrous
I don’t know. I suppose He prefers us to make our decisions with a certain amount of freedom.

You probably won’t believe this, since you are an atheist, but the night my father died, he appeared in my room. He materialised so to speak. He then started with an apology for the way he treated me, we argued and conversed and at the end he gave this absolutely terrifying scream and disappeared. Now I was an atheist at that time. It was 30 years ago. I didn’t become a Christian for another 4 years, and it was not a critical factor in my conversion.

I still remember the scream, and even parts of the conversation. And that was a long time ago. So as far as I’m concerned, we are monitored every step of the way, yet we are not aware of it. He thought he hadn’t been seen. His bullying was deliberate. He admitted that the night he died. I’ve found it hard to forgive him for that reason.

But he was allowed to get away with it until then. By the time he did realise he’d been seen, it was too late for him to do anything about it. He was allowed to apologise, and I’m not sure if he asked to apologise or was told to.

I don’t think the Jihadists who run around blowing up innocent people go to heaven, even though they think they do. I think they go to Hell personally, as murderers, no matter what their beliefs are.

But by the same token, the same God who judges them also judges us. And He’s pretty good at hiding Himself. If He weren’t, faith wouldn’t be necessary. Spiritual beings don’t have faith in the same sense as we do, as they don’t need it. They can see Him. But we can’t. So we are able to make our decisions in a sort of Godless vacuum so to speak.

In that respect we are “free”.

Bob - very interesting. My own dad passed away when I was casually drinking with my colleagues. I had only drank a quarter of a glass of red wine when I decided to go to the toilet. When I came out of the toilet, I suddenly blacked out and in my unconscious state, I heard my father telling me ‘sorry, I didn’t spend much time with you’. I thought nevermind, its okay we still have time together. When I woke up my colleagues were all surprised why I had ‘fainted’ and one of them drove me home. When I reached home, my phone rang and my mom told me that my dad had passed away cos he slipped and fell backwards in the kitchen and had hit his head against a small step near by. It was the exact same time I blacked out and heard his voice. I believe there is some limited time between a person passing away and going into ‘sleep’. Didn’t Jesus also spent many days on earth after His cruxifixion before His ascension?

We must learn to rely solely on His word (as written in the Bible) for our Salvation because His word is life.

Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre.
Venga tu reino.
Sea hecha tu voluntad, como en el cielo, así también en la tierra.
Danos hoy nuestro pan cotidiano.
Y perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos
á nuestros deudores.
Y no nos metas en tentación, mas líbranos del mal:
porque tuyo es el reino, y el poder, y la gloria, por todos los siglos.
Amén.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen.

don’t care. It’s not only about him, it’s about justice and deterrent (and just desert).
But in this case it would not BE a deterrant. That’s the point.
Bottom line, when he dies it’s over (no magical wonderland, no Allah waiting with open arms and a bunch of virgins, a quick dream & that’s all she wrote).

And that is also the point. Kill him and it’s all over for him. If you are correct, he simply ceases to exist. There is nothing to fear in that; no justice, no retribution, nothing. If WE are correct, and he’s, well…nuts, then he will get some forgiveness in the hereafter, and frankly, I"m admitting to being too angry to want him to have any right now. Call it a fault in me. If we are correct and he’s headed for hell, well…that’s nice and all, but we don’t know which it is. If, by some horrific cosmic and unholy happenstance, HE is right, the LAST thing we want to do is send him to HIS heaven! Whatever his fate upon death is, it will be over for HIM, and we will be providing a nicely turned out martyr for their cause. It will be a great political and PR victory for the muslim extremists who support him.

I would rather he lived a long life in comfort, with all the books he wants, all the prayer rugs he wants…and absolutely no freedom or contact with anybody. THAT is the only way, I think, we can defeat him at this point. I don’t think we need to humiliate him or anything; just make him…irrelevant. Cattle to be stuck in a cage somewhere.

I know, I can’t believe I’m saying this. I am a firm supporter of the death penalty.

Actually, there is some ambiguity in Islam. One example: A Muslim is free to choose to be non-violent, but another is free to be a violent jihadi and neither can say the other’s approach to the duties and responsibilities of a Muslem is not Islamic. What each Muslim must decide is if he or she is an American who happens to be a Muslim or a Muslim who happens to be an American. If a Muslim chooses the former, that is one thing; but it is arguable whether or not, for security reasons, those who choose the latter should be permitted to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Blessings,
Irl

There’s a bit of an odd follow-up to my story. A couple of years ago I was arguing with atheists on a google group about Near Death Experiences (NDE), and as usual getting nowhere. So I prayed I might meet someone who’d had an NDE. My experience didn’t qualify, as it was my father who’d died, not me.

A couple of days later I was driving a Maxi Taxi in a suburb called Boondall, when a job came up on the screen for a Maxi at Brighton, a beachside suburb a few kilometres away. I procrastinated at first (something I’m very good at!), as I assumed a closer Maxi would do the job. But when it was still on the screen a few minutes later, I went for it, and got the job. I ended up at a nursing home called Eventide, where I eventually found the fare, a bloke about my age, but not in good health.

He hadn’t wanted a Maxi, just a normal cab, as he was the only fare. Anyway he wanted to go to Brisbane Hospital, which is quite a distance. But we’d only been going about two minutes when he suddenly remarked, “I’m one of those unusual people”. I asked him what he was talking about and he replied he’d been technically dead for ten minutes following an operation. He told me a few things - being able to see the medical staff, hearing every word that was said, the white light etc.

However what intrigued me even more was that he went to the same high school as the eldest son of the very same uncle who came to tell me my father had died.

Bit tall for a coincidence - pray to meet someone who’d had an NDE, then have a job reserved for me by a system glitch in the booking system (it should have gone to an ordinary cab, in which case I’d never have met him), and then meet a bloke who’s got an almost familial relationship to my own father’s death. You can call it co-incidence - I don’t.

Earlier in this thread, (in reply # 14 & 16), I advocated the experimentation with songs and videos for the evaluation of their therapeutic effect. Due to the [negative] feedback posted, and a greater awareness of other material* performed by one of the groups, I find it necessary to explain my intentions more clearly; and also to enact a removal** of that song*** from the list.

I would like to start by explaining the reason(s) I had/have for creating the [prior] list(s).

Perhaps the primary reason for compiling the list is to provide for the facilitation of the re-enactment of the traumatic experience – yet involving the activation of differing systems of awareness – for the sake of the [eventual] mitigation of the emotional response(s) to the
event(s). A similar motive is to alert others of the potential for certain material(s) to significantly alter the emotive state. And yet another motive is/was to facilitate the/my declaration of [any] undisclosed information.

I apologize if I [have] inadvertently [negatively] affect(ed) the grieving process.

Following is the the updated list****:

youtube.com/watch?v=-A9j48ZPKMA
youtube.com/watch?v=VNsvE33pRSw
youtube.com/watch?v=Tw3WwHFTFT4

*Material(s) that may supersede any potential for therapy in the present application. It is not my intention to, thru association, infer that I endorse these materials [or not].
**This action is not intended as libel [against the group] or a devaluing of [any] therapeutic effect.
***This address is mostly concerning the second song, and/or video, in the list.
*****May contain adult/mature content, themes, and/or language. All copyright infringement stutuses are unknown [to me at this time].

Disclaimer: No guarantee of thrapeutic effect is expressed or implied. Participation is voluntary and is not [necessarily] endorsed by me.

In an earlier post I remarked, “…P]erhaps my main concern is for the potential detrimental effects upon [the perception of] Christianity if an [unjustified or unwarranted], “it’s O.K. when Paul did/does it.” mentality is cultivated or endorsed; especially if/when the potential change in the perpetrator’s religious status is unknown or irrelevant.” I will clarify and elaborate upon these words/concepts.

During the revelation process I inherently underwent an assessment of the potential justification(s) for the authorization of the opportunity.

That is to say that, after being aware of the details of the revelation, [it was as though] I asked myself, “Why would God allow something like this to happen?”

I understand that this is a difficult question to answer and one for which there may be many varying and diverse opinions.

From my interpretation [at the time of revelation], the content of Galatians 4 is central to the allowance of the eventuality of the event(s) wherein the perpetrator’s life [and cognitive function] is preserved. For this, in turn, would allow for a(n) [Islamic] [written] non-violent rebuttal to any of the inappropriate and/or offensive content of , at least,] the aforementioned work.

For this, and other, reason(s) I would like to state/remind that I do not endorse, in part, or in full, Paul’s writings/teachings/etc.

However, I am not [necessarily] advocating a(n) automatic/necessary preeminence of any other work.

In closing, I would like to bring to remembrance the words of John the Baptist:

“And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.”
– Matthew 3:9 KJV

That is to say that, after being aware of the details of the revelation, [it was as though] I asked myself, “Why would God allow something like this to happen?”
The easy answer is god (at least the god proposed by the various bibles in contemporary society) doesn’t exist.

Psalm 14 (Of David):
1: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
2: The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.
3: They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4: Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD.
5: There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.
6: Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge.
7: Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

I don’t find ancient poetry about mythological gods compelling in the least bit … sorry my friend!

I have been learning about Islam on the threads here, and can see so much psychiatric delusion in Mohammed’s psyche. There are so many contradictions.

And as Jagasaki pointed out, Islam is based on Scripture. Much of Islam uses myths, such as Muhammed coming to Jerusalem in a dream and landing on a spot to then ascend into heaven…was the actual location of St. Mary Major of Justinian Catholic Church. It was destroyed and next to it was placed the Dome of the Rock.

Islam has no claim to Jerusalem but here we are…

About the myths…the Catholic Church cannot claim that Adam and Eve were our first parents or that Noah existed. The Jewish people drew on ancient myths in those times to try to explain man’s beginnings…but truth does work through myths. And science so far cannot trace us to both the first man and woman. It is mystery.

Drawing on similar myths shows a common humanity. But unfortunately the Sunni and Shia sects do not believe that and are at war with mankind.

Present troubles can be traced to the Muslim Brotherhood which began in Egypt in 1922. The Hussein clan were in collusion with the Nazis and committed pogroms against the Jews living in Palestine in that time. Arafat was the nephew of the original Hussein.

Later, in the 1930’s, the Bolsheviks arrived and taught the Brotherhood the skill of disinformation. The KGB has promoted disinformation throughout the world about America being its enemy, about our foreign policy, and hiding its destruction of millions of its own people. Our present American government and media has a number of neo Marxists who continue to rant and hate and enslave through taxes and marginalization and displacement of middle America, the hard working and stable base of our country.

To squabble about some ancient myths in light of this world today that is so fractured…it is time to wake up and see where all your present information is coming from…Global warming is now being proven for what it is, fake and means to transfer the wealth. Real source is underground geothermal activity which is happening in great intensity along the Ring of Fire in the Pacific…Don’t mean to get off, but we are being hit with so much as a country…and to now see this faction giving the 9/11 killers of the most horrific crime in our country a civil trial so they can further abuse us…it does no good for Islam.

What Islam is reacting to is our support of Israel, and all the hedonism and personal immorality of the West. America is the greatest promoter of condoms and pornography and abortion into the rest of the world, and middle America is helpless to stop it.

Isn’t it true that Christianity also had to concede much to secular “rationalist” ideals in order for western society to develop as it has for the last three centuries? Certainly avowed deists (and secularists) such as David Hume, Adam Smith, Voltaire, Immanuel Kant, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Hamilton, Madison, Paine, etc. shaped our society much more than the dogmas of ancient myths. It’s not to say religious dogma hasn’t played a role (but so did Hammurabi’s and Justinian’s codes).

It’s probably more accurate to say western civilization developed as it did in spite of Christianity (rather than because of it).

I only say this to promote a semblance of rational understanding concerning the problem we face (in the west) with the Muslim world; and not to draw a comparison between modern Christianity (which has been tempered by secular political philosophy) and Islam (which currently exists in a very primitive state).

I do think we need to begin to question our approach to this problem. For example, I think Europe is making a big gamble that the hoards of Muslims she continues to allow in will eventually become swayed by western rational thought. I also think there’s unfortunate economic, geopolitical, and military realities that make it more difficult to take a harsher stance against this influx of Muslims.

I dare ask whether we may be taking the idea of multiculturalism too far.

Multiculturalism is good if people are sincere and hold on to what is best of their cultures. But we are experiencing in America jihad at various levels. I sense some soldiers suffer unnecessary guilt as well from this PC.

Back to myth, it is bone picking time. Going waaaay back, I would not say that God revealing Himself as “I am Who Am” is reflection of a myth.

And you also are bypassing all the humanitarian work of Church and saints alike in the building of Europe.

Did you know that Mexico, and not North America, was the center of the New World…that Bishop Zumaragga in the 1500’s worked for women and girls to have a right to an education, hundreds of years before the Anglos? Mexico was the center of learning, education…Catholic…

Extreme poverty and class struggles returned with the Masonic Revolution…Do you know the event of Our Lady of Guadalupe that also happened during the life of this good bishop? There are many texts on it; I would recommend Francis Schaeffer’s because he talks about the surrounding social conditions, as well as the magnificent aspects of Aztecan culture, which the Spaniards acknowledged as well.

The greatest came out of Catholic Europe the universities, hospitals, hospice, schools, scholastic disciplines, the art, music…so we are not so bad or unreasonable. It takes some kind of reasonable intelligence to accomplish all that. The church has promoted reason for a long time, going back to St. Athanaseus…but we lacked the discipline of Science. Faith, science and reason work together.

So don’t be so hard.

And soldiers, don’t be so hard on yourselves. So many Americans across the country have great support for our military. Just today I heard the Obamination is now taking 4 soldiers to court because one of them gave a terrorist a thick lip in Falluja.

And the global warming hoax…all this the work of some atheists…

Would you rather acknowledge a magnificent cathedral and all the expression of faith that was put into it for the glory of God…or a Thick Fallujan Terrorist Lip being defended by American taxpayers dollars? Using taxpayer dollars as weapons to demoralize our military…Don’t let them demoralize you.

I wonder where the atheists get their information about the history of the Catholic church…

And another thing about us who ‘believe in myths’…an Italian, probably a Catholic, developed the bookkeeping method in the ancient and backwards 1400’s, that is in use today. He knew his credits from his debits, something the secular foreign American government has lost count of.

So, don’t be using such language labelling us as mythbelievers here especially on the thread regarding the tragedy of Fort Hood.
