Yes, to a very high degree, we are dealing with a bunch of 60’s types who have never grown past the hippie movement. They are withering so fast - they are plants without roots - that they have to try something like this to get attention. They may claim to be a force, but they are actually a nuisance and distraction.

Blessings,

Gerry

According to this article, there’s going to be a new “Catholic” church - well, not exactly.

It seems all the usual suspects who have actually left the Church are going to try to band together - VOTF, Dignity, Catholics for Choice, women’s “ordination”,etc.

My take? It’s about time they formed another organization, and stopped pretending they were still professing members of the Catholic Church.

Blessings,

Gerry
I believe there is already a “new” (relatively speaking) Church, which, in some places, even calls itself “catholic,” and which believes in women’s ordination, married priests, gay unions, liberal theology, etc., and even conducts services somewhat similar to the Mass:

The astonishing thing is that all these groups always appeal to Vatican II for support. And there is nothing in Vatican II which remotely relates to what they are talking about. Why don’t they just join the Episcopal church? It seems to offer what they want. If this were the seventies I might be worried about these folks. But they really are graying now, and religious orders who think like them are simply drying up from a lack of vocations.

To those who keep asking HOW these people have “left the Church,”
— it does not matter one bit that they keep showing up at the local parish and
going thru the motions.

What matters is that they openly and defiantly espouse heresy, dissent and disobedience to the magisterium and to Holy Scripture and Tradition. THAT makes them heretics and apostates, all of whom have placed themselves outside the church even if their pastors don’t have the guts to forbid them entry into their parishes unless they PUBLICLY repent.

I don’t really care whether or not she actually ‘presided’ at a mock liturgy. The mere fact she was present at the mock service, the fact that she supports women’s ordination, the fact that she is in good company with numerous other public dissenters, etc. is more than sufficient to deem her as a false teacher. Nuff said.

the newly formed American Catholic Council called today for an historic assembly of the Catholic Church in the United States
They seem to be implying that this will be a sort of ecumenical council. Held in America, exclusively for Americans. As if ecumenical councils can exclude part of the Church.
Sounds more like a regional council. There is ample precedent for this in Church history. As travel has become easier in recent years these have pretty much been replaced by annual meetings of national conferences of bishops, and visits to Rome by a country’s cardinals.

Right, but they seem to be implying that this regional council would be like Vatican III.

Which, as a regional council, it could not be.
While your conclusion is correct, I don’t agree with your logic. There have been regional councils that have agreed on points of doctrine and discipline, which were only later embraced by the whole Church. In theory the same could happen here. What is different now is that in today’s more bureaucratic Church with stronger and faster lines of communication, the radical changes sought by this group would need approval from Rome before being enacted.

Was she actually present at a “mock liturgy”? I have no idea but I’ve yet to see her admit being at one or proof beyond someone just saying she was without any other proof/evidence.

You know, the similarity between these folks and the Episcopagans (they being Episcopalians and Anglicans who no longer profess the Christian faith, much to the chagrin of the minority of North American Episcopalians and Anglicans who do) is indeed very striking. Not much divine revelation, but lots of psychobabble.

Blessings,

Gerry

Not much like, in fact. Local councils were gatherings of Bishops who came together, as prelates who where in full communion with, and who acknowledged the authority of, the Holy Father, the Bishop of Rome. These councils function as a part of the Magisterium because of, and only because of, that communion and acknowledgement of authority.

A group coming together in defiance of that communion and authority cannot possibly form such a regional council.

Blessings,

Gerry

I’ve often wondered how far off Eddie Izzard was when he was describing the Church of England:
Now the sermon today is taken from a magazine that I found in a hedge. Now lipstick colors this season are in the frosted pink area and nail colors to match… And this reminds me rather of our Lord Jesus!

The song being played is the same song played over the last few decades - a song of arrogance and defiance.

It can all be summarized: “We espouse such high principles that we are entitled to spit in the face of the Magisterium, and still call ourselves Catholic.” Yeah, right.

I’m not an American, I’m a Canadian. But I am a Catholic who is a Canadian, not a Canadian Catholic. The Church doesn’t need Canadian Catholics, or American Catholics, or Hottentot Catholics, or whatever. Canada, America, and the Hottentots and the rest will, on the other hand, be better off for the presence of faithful Catholics.

Blessings,

Gerry

Very sad. All the usual suspects are here in the form of words: “progressive,” “repressive” (to describe the Church of the past), “inclusive,” “homophobia,” and “21st Century.”

The idea that knowledge, wisdom or enlightenment poured into anyone’s head the moment the calendar changed from the 20th to the 21st Century is a myth, a strange idea.

Peace,
Ed

It seems pretty clear to me that the group is calling for a regional council. That no legitimate players would ever heed the call and thus have a real regional council doesn’t change that.

Sorry…again…I failed to see how the link you cited supported the claim you made. Help? Thanks.
I am sorry. Many of these things happened in the mid-90s, and internet-searchable archives don’t go back that far in many cases.
