I use to like her. Her money and the attention she needs whenever she does something for someone totally turns me off. Money is the root of all evil, without money, no radio show. Good luck to her.

They rave over these programs favorably, and are very devout in their faith and loyal to the magisterium.

yes it does have to do with religion. Watch and listen to what she is saying before you make off the wall determinations. She is blatantly against Jesus Christ, and has spoken and said firmly and directly that he is not God and that there are multiple ways to get to heaven.

From doing so she has quite literally taken herself out of the sphere of entertainment and placed herself in a different level. She has now allotted herself to become the spiritual guru of American Media.

I don’t have a clue what you as to what you mean. I do not agree with what Oprah says but just because she has her own opinion, (this is still a free country), and has the courage to voice it on tv so what? You do not have to accept other opinions if you feel they go against your own religious beliefs. I believe she misinterpreted what was said about “God being a jealous God.” I believe that means, He doesn’t want any other God’s put before Him. She interpreted it as God is jealous of her. How could she believe anything as stupid as that? But it is NOT Oprah or her views that I am extolling. It is the course on the “Now” which I believe has helped me strengthen my faith as a Catholic. I choose to believe what the Catechism teaches, NOT what Oprah says. Yet I feel that this course on spirituality is good. If you want to lump everything together I guess that is your right, but when I go through a buffet line, I don’t automatically choose everything, because not everything is good for me.

This is your personal interpretation of the program. Fine. If she was just an odinary person and didn’t have a show or a billion dollars, you would most likely dismiss her opinions as just that. Even though you would not agree with her. But you are making her the guru. I don’t agree with her ideas either, but that doesn’t mean that Tolles theories don’t have merit. I think they do. Obviously you cannot see that. Could there be something impeding your vision like maybe a log?

If you read the scripture correctly you would have seen that it says. “The love of money is the root of all evil”. I am not defending Oprah, but I am defending the scripture.

Tolle teaches things such as “happiness” is a state of consciousness and there is no such thing as sin. His teachings are not Scriptural. Tolle (and Oprah) are dangerous. They set forth strange (hinduistic and new age) doctrines.

The most dangerous lie, the one that leads to all the others, is that there is no absolute truth, and that is what Oprah is spreading. The idea that one person’s beliefs can be just as valid as another’s, despite the fact that they completely contradict one another, is the lie that they depend on to turn the hearts of well-intentioned people. Because it sounds good on the surface, but underneath is the true essence of such a statement, which is that there is no truth. And once you fall for such a lie, anything goes. Who was it who said that the problem with not believing in God isn’t that you won’t believe in anything, but that you WILL believe anything.
 
Let us forgive Oprah, love Oprah and pray for Oprah.

But let us also expose and seek to correct this incredibly dangerous New Age teaching which denies the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Your right if she was just an ordinary person she would not upset anyone. But she is not just an ordinary person, she influences millions of people who watch her and idolize her (yep idolize her). She is therefore a very dangerous person.~~ Nope we are not making her a guru, she does that very well all by herself.

OK! and what is it about Tolles theories that have merit?

If you really and truly are that into your faith, I’d hope you’d look farther than Oprah for some things to really help you. I don’t even know what she teaches in this, but I do know that there are TONS of resources coming straight out of the Church that you know you can’t go wrong with, so why waste your time?

I’m confused. Are those of you who are anti-whatever Oprah is up to afraid that this teaching will lead folks away from the RC or are you just upset that it’s out there at all? :confused:
 
This teaching will lead people to hell, period. The first sin in the whole wide world was that of trying to become like God. Eve ate the apple under the premise of getting God’s secret knowledge, and to become a God herself. This is the spirit of new age, that you are God yourself, and whatever morality you decide is just fine for you.

Oprah is promoting SPIRITUALITY. As much as Shulchzz denies that Oprah is not a spiritual leader, at the same time he proclaims that her advice helped him with his spiritual life. That is a spiritual leader. Oprah started a book club a couple of years ago and leveraged her TV show to get people on board, and since then she’s started peddling dangerous new age feel good spiritual style books.

Any catholics that Oprah manages to lead away from the church weren’t very strong catholics in the first place. There is a good word we used to have in the church, i cant really remember what it is…started with an H, oh yah now i got it, HERETIC. A heretic is someone who was baptized into the body of Christ, and knowingly and openly rejected that for something else. Muslims are not heretics, but christians who knowingly reject Jesus in favor of other erroneous teachings are.

Relativism is dangerous, you are either with Jesus, or you aren’t. Period. Even if 10% of what Oprah promotes can be considered to be good spirituality, it is so laden with poison and garbage that it is spiritually toxic. I love my faith, and i will defend it to my death. I know truth when it is spoken, and I walk with Jesus the best i can. Let’s see what Oprah has to say:

Basically, i think what most of us are all uppity about is that Oprah is blindly leading millions of people daily down into the gates of hell, AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. This is all clear to us here on this board, and to any practicing catholic Oprah’s teachings are an abomination. But no one is doing anything about it, or speaking up, and we can’t because it’s against the law. But we know the ultimate truth.

Oprah’s teachings aren’t compatible with christianity period. Her personal beliefs are fine, but peddling them to unsuspecting americains is a different story.

Favourite Oprah teaching: We shouldn’t “cling” to that ancient piece of wood…

Pray for Oprah, she seriously has no clue what she is doing. Forces more powerful than her are goading her along and feeding her ego. This tolle guy, the last guy, etc etc. She is merely their mouthpiece. If you want to know what the devil sounds like, go watch those videos. I’m not saying Oprah is the devil, but she is under the influence of something that is not Godly, but demonic. The evil one has taken a hold of her and is using her, pray for oprah.

As Christians, we believe that at the very least, a belief in Jesus Christ as Savior is necessary for salvation. Therefore it is distressing to see someone as mainstream - and influential among ordinary people - as Oprah Winfrey giving the specific recommendation to turn away from Christ. Because that is, in fact, what she is doing.

Yeah he’s a Catholic as well. Not sure how practicing he is though but I heard it’s so embedded in his conscience that he feels the guilt when he commits a mortal sin. I read him saying that somewhere I’m sure. So the good thing is, if he knows it’s wrong, the guilt will make him sooner or later confess it.

Well, Oprah has never been Catholic; as far as I know, she grew up Baptist. However, now she has taken up with Eckhart Tolle’s school of meditation, which in some ways resembles Buddhism but doesn’t even declaratively side with that. He’s a popular writer and I think he’s in his 60s. He seems to have invented his own semi-religion which picks and chooses from various types of New Age thinking, the ‘salad bar’ approach… :rolleyes: Some of the ‘new thought’ people can get so vague, you don’t know what they’re thinking. Wish they’d just stick to something. If truth changes as you like, it can’t very well be truth, can it? 😊
