If you wanted to see the perfect example of the ethical and moral collapse of the Mainstream Media, you could not do better than a long article in the New Yorker of May 23, 2005.

The article is entitled, “The Spy Who Loved Us.” Written by a teacher at the University of Albany, named Thomas Bass, it’s about a man named Pham Xuan An. Now very old, An was – among many other things – a correspondent in Saigon during the Vietnam War for Time magazine.

He was apparently considered a particularly brilliant and well-informed correspondent and very well liked by his colleagues in the Western press corps during the war.

He was also a Communist spy, working for the North Vietnamese, informing them of what he knew about American military plans, troop movements, political agendas.

He even helped the Communists win large battles by directing Vietcong and North Vietnamese troops against American and South Vietnamese forces. He helped plan the Tet Offensive of 1968, including helping the man who planned the attack on the U.S. Embassy. This was the offensive where thousands of innocent civilians were massacred by the Communists.

When the war ended, An offered to go to the U.S. and continue spying for the Communists there. The offer was denied and he lives quietly in Ho Chi Minh City, where, among other pets, he keeps fighting cocks – a practice generally considered barbaric in the circles of New Yorker readers, but another sign of his cuteness to Professor Bass.

In fact, the whole article is about how cute and smart and clever and brave a guy An is.

A lovable, brilliant, brave man who sent Americans and innocent civilians to their deaths. Bass even explains that almost all of An’s former colleagues in the Western press still love the guy after learning he was a spy for America’s enemy in the Vietnam War. They even gave money to bring him here for an auld lang syne visit not long ago.

In this article, which I would guess to be about 8,000 words or more, there is not one hint, not one whisper, of sympathy for the American soldiers who fought and died or were maimed in Vietnam. Not one sliver of anger at a man who took American money and helped kill Americans. Not a word about the mass murder of civilians during Tet.

Prof. Bass, the perfect modern academic, obviously greatly admires this man, spent days with him, and has not one bad word to say about An’s bosses, who, again, killed civilians without remorse by the thousands, who even sent An to be “re-educated” after the war because he had so much contact with Western ideas.

I am not sure how many mothers or fathers or children or widows of Vietnam war casualties read the New Yorker. I am not sure if anyone who edited the piece – and it is edited well, although utterly without moral (name removed by moderator)ut – had friends or family who fought there (such as my late father in law, Col. Dale Denman, Jr.). But how insulting, how insulting must an article like this be to them. How insulting it is to us all: to lavish praise on a man who helped kill our fellow Americans, to describe him in endearing terms, to try to make him seem like a kindly uncle.

If the New Yorker is one of the flagships of the Mainstream Media fleet, they are sailing in maddeningly disloyal, contemptuous waters and obviously have been for a while.

Small wonder the media gloried in Mark Felt and Watergate last week.

In those days, Americans actually trusted the Mainstream Media. The New Yorker piece by Prof. Bass makes it clear how wrong we were. He’s a fine writer but a man whose piece lacks any moral compass at all. And what of the fellow journalists in Saigon cheering him on? Now we know a bit more about why the war turned out as it did.

And even more about some of the pieces we saw during that time and post-war books and analyses.

The moral legacy was passed down to us in the present by CNN who knew of Saddam’s torture chambers and his victims, but kept quiet to maintain access.

For the stereotypical video report of “no moral compass” – see Dan Rather’s interview with Saddam Hussein pre-war. A fawning, syncophantic exercise in “look how important I really am”.

It continues with the no talent Katie Couric to whom a deep thought would bring instant cerebral paralysis – the money she makes, the notoriety she enjoys and the people who fawn over her. Another “cute” individual who gets air wave time. Why on earth anyone would care what this woman thinks is utterly beyond me.

HagiaSophia…tragic isn’t it? The 20th century would have been a lot less bloody had not the American media, Hollywood and must of the intelligentsia been infatuated with socialist genocidal maniacs.

From Walter Duranty to perky Katie they have always taken the side of evil (except during WWII. They opposed Hitler. I’ll give them credit for that).

This animation sums them up pretty well.

But even then they loved the communist. Stalin could do no wrong, there was never any outrage by the MSM over what he did to Eastern Europe and the millions he slaughtered there.

But not without a LOT of kicking and screaming. I have watched many hours of the History Channel and it showed the opposition to WWII was massive and continued even after Pearl Harbor. It was all Roosevelt could do to get ANY help for the Allies. To us, sitting here fat, dumb and happy with an ocean separating us, Hitler didn’t seem so bad. And then we made a deal with the devil (aka Stalin).

The far left in American turned on a dime in 1939 and supported Hitler the day he signed a nonagression pact with the Soviet Union. The C.I.O. (later to become part of the AFL-CIO) called strikes at munitions plants which were shipping aid to Great Britian to fight the Nazis.

The America First movement feared another WWI. It was content to let Hitler and Stalin destroy each other.

What is important to remember is that by Pearl Harbor, Americans already knew of millions murdered in the USSR German language newspapers in the midwest had been full of letters from ethnic Germans in the USSR begging for help in the 1920s and early 30s. Over 300,000 of them were slaughtered…as well as 7 million Ukrainians. All that happened before anyone could know the full extent of what the Nazis would do.

It addition, it was obvious New Dealers were on the side of the Soviets. The congressman who created the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities, Samuel Dickstein(D-NY), was a Soviet agent. He introduced the bill authorizing HCUA to go after Americans who opposed the New Deal.

About a month after the Nazis invaded the Soviet Unioin, FDR slapped an oil embargo on Japan. FDR wasn’t so concerend himself about Nazi Germany until his beloved Soviet union was invaded. From the day he put on the embargo, it was only a matter of time before Japan moved against US interests. US intel knew it would happen by the end of 1941.

And were equally agile in doing the reverse when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union. I think it was David Horowitz’ parents (or maybe Norman Podhoretz’s), that were at a party of Communist sympathizers that evening. Having entered as isolationists, they all left having done a 180 on hearing the news.

QUESTIONS: What exactly do all these people who hate the US (and many have for so long), really want? What sort of country/world do they visualize? What is it that makes a century of duplicity and death all worthwhile? Where can we find the answers?

Anna Elizabeth…yes. That is one of the first instances of the term “politically correct” being used. CPUSA members who were anti-fascists, couldn’t believe their comrades could turn on a dime like that and used the phrase to descibe those who followed Stalin’s orders no matter what.

Wish I knew why. Money was a large part of it. The bolsheviks looted Russia and much of the money made its way to America. John Reed, who Hollywood made into a romantic figure in “Reds”, received over a million bucks for party work in the USA from Lenin in 1920. The money contuned to pour into left wing groups for the next 6 decades.

I could not sit through that picture - the thought of what was really happening during that period gagged me so. What a twisted portrayal of a paid provacateur – and I’m still waiting for the Pulitzer committee to take its prize back from that other propagandist.
