A Nope for Pope [NYT: Dowd]

From the Slimes: Yup, we need a Nope.
A nun who is pope.
The Catholic Church can never recover as long as its Holy Shepherd is seen as a black sheep in the ever-darkening sex abuse scandal.
Now we learn the sickening news that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, nicknamed “God’s Rottweiler” when he was the church’s enforcer on matters of faith and sin, ignored repeated warnings and looked away in the case of the Rev. Lawrence C. Murphy, a Wisconsin priest who molested as many as 200 deaf boys.

The nuns have historically cleaned up the messes of priests. And this is a historic mess. Benedict should go home to Bavaria. And the cardinals should send the white smoke up the chimney, proclaiming “Habemus Mama.”

And it continues…
 
What we need is(are?) Bishops who will begin weilding their Apostolic Right to censure and excomunicate these heretics and dividers that pass themselves off as (c)atholics. Real Catholics are sick to the heart of the few religious, politicians and commentators who have no respect for the Magesterium Or the Holy Father.
My personal answer to all of them is “The Anglican church has room for you, since their Faithful are coming to us”
I pray for a re-awakening of our Sacred Tradition and Healing of our Church. Let us all pray this Holy Week for a renewal of spirit in our Church. Say at least one Rosary for healing and one for the Holy Father. Pax Vobiscum!
 
Maureen for pope! We do not have to look any further. Her motto would be: Don’t confuse me with the facts.(In Latin, of course)

Tried to resist the temptation to respond to this but I failed miserably…it was the bit about the nuns cleaning up the priests’ messes…here in Ireland the nuns are very much a part of the mess as far as institutional sex abuse cases are concerned! A pms afflicted Nope doesn’t appeal to me…sorry. The Lion King watched over the lionesses and the cubs from Pride Rock and The Pope watches over the sheep from Peter’s Rock. God Bless You

I can only surmise that she would approve of some misandristic feminist nun who would turn the church into a new age pagan-fest, complete with the plugged-in liberal ideology of the day. Thank heavens that will never happen.

I was waiting when this would start…oh brother. It’s like throwing a bike away, when it just needs a new tire. I’m not saying that things are this simple! Please know that. But, what I am saying is that you don’t abandon tradition, and customs that date back to Christ’s will…because of the sins of some WITHIN the Church. Our Pope is a beautiful man, and I feel for him during this. I do think an investigation needs to be underway, to ensure that every stone has been overturned…it’s only fair to all who suffered. But, I don’t believe in removing men from the Papacy. This is called hysterics…

While I agree with your point, the statement I chose to bold, is kind of a rude generalization of women. :o
 
Well, here we are again. Another Palm Sunday, and another chance to join as a collective family. I have thirty-six first cousins, with a multitude of offspring running here and there, filling the house with the energy of youth. Tom Izzo just brought Mich. State back to the final four (to the consternation of a Tenn. alum in our midst), but I digress ( could not resist). Palm crucifixes abound in our home, tied well, not so well, and…well…But I jest. The least, tied by my niece Julia, is the one we chose to extol and tape on the wall. For centuries my family of proud Catholics have celebrated Palm Sunday in a manner not unlike our gathering today. The Faith has longevity and continuity.

We have, in the course of history, celebrated… despite thus: Famine, Plague, War, Persecution, Pestulence, Dissonance, Heresy, Corruption, and all other manner of discord and strife. Somehow, the Faith has reached out, through time, to me, and my family.

How? Accident? Chance?..That is too much luck upon which any complex statistical analysis could assign credit. Two-Thousand plus years, but She has endured…Our magnificent, beautiful, mystical Church has survived. We live, what, eighty years max (give or take the odd, exeptional and anomalous natures), yet some among us presuppose to possess the sage precognition to proclaim the imminent demise of our Holy and beloved Church, and by extension Jesus, ( for it is His mystical body which they assail). And… they do it with malice of intention. This makes them blasphemers.

Perhaps Maureen, Madonna and Sinead can form a new cult; another stillborn testament to duplicity doomed by its own rage and vanity. Let them try, if they can remove themselves long enough from their own megalomania.

Yet, by grace, my family is here, has been here, and will, until the end, continue to be here, just as the countless other witness families of Christ will be here, until He comes again in great power and glory, to save all of his faithful who have awaited His return.

Maureen Dowd is a pathetic, fallen soul…a spiritual anarchist. Let us all pray for her impoverished spirit. She has been given a voice, but sadly she has succumbed to the “father of all lies”, and has become his spokesperson. Woe to Maureen Dowd. We will endure…she will not.

The Episcopal Church decided to have a self-appointed female pope. Next time an idiot tries to suggest such a thing, just remember what Her Unholiness has done for American Anglicanism :mad:

I just previewed that book and my jaw dropped.No wonder these so-called nuns and their heterodox covens are being investigated by tn he vatican.These old feminist misandryist witches have to go!Excommunicate them!-
 
I read the article and many of the hundreds of comments following it. I expected to see one or two comments defending the church, but, at least in the couple hundred I read, no one said a positive word about B16 or the hierarchy – a couple nice things about Catholic Charities, St. Vincent dePaul Society, but not much else.

The depth of hatred for and misconceptions about the church are stunning, if not new: Inquisitions, B16 as power-hungry and living in wealth, etc. The filth in the church must be eradicated – Satan is gleeful over this mess – but I think many will not be satisfied until the church is bankrupt and reduced to, as someone mentioned, a faithful remnant. It is criminal and disheartening that so many suffered the abuse at the hands of these men. It is disheartening that so many faithful clergy – the great majority – must carry this burden in addition to the demands of their vocation. God bless them all.

Pray for our clergy and pray for those who suffered the abuse.

I agree with you, Whatever.

Why don’t we get back to discussing the most important subject in the Catholic news----psychological, physical and sexual abuse of minors by the Catholic clergy and religious, priests, brothers and nuns, over decades, and the inadequate response to all of this by the hierarchy.

Do you feel that the current response is inadequate? Definitely the past response was…but how about now? Do you have a sense of authentic humility on the part of the Church? I do. The thing is, the horrors that happened over the decades, can never be taken back…it will be hard for anyone who has suffered like the victims have …for any words to ever mean anything, but forgiveness requires a lot of us, sometimes. Sometimes, when we can’t find it in our human strength to forgive, we must draw upon God’s strength and grace. *
 
Now, I do not like Ms. Dowd and find her article to be very flippand and uninteresting.

However, I do not understand the strong feelings against having a woman pope. I do not buy Ms. Dowd’s point that a woman will be able to fix the church because of her gender or whatever benefits it provides. However, I equally reject the argument that being female disqualifies an individual from being a good religious leader.

The fact is that there are good leaders who are either men or women and there are bad leaders who are either men and women. Gender has very little to do with this. I wish the Church would abandon the archaic and unjustified distinction and allow itself a greater pool of talent from whom to pick our leaders. It is only hurting the institution by keeping half its membership out of the running for the leadership.

Using the example of the Anglican church and its female leader to make the argument that women cannot be leaders is absurd. By the same token I can point to Hitler and say that men should not be leaders. We have had great women leaders in our history (Thatcher, Hillary Clinton, Angela Merkel, Queen Elizabeth, etc).
