I have a picture that I do not consider pornography but beauty. I will explain why I have this picture and no pornography. We all know pornography seeks to arouse lust. When I first saw this picture my intellect was stimulated. In the left forecorner of the picture is a transparant table with a newspaper on it with wording “The Suday times”. Two silver pots are there one looks like a coffee pot and a smaller pot probably for sweetner. A woman has her right hand on this table and her left hand on a windowsill. She is looking out the window. She has an unbuttoned dress shirt and shorts on. Her stomache and breast are all that is visible. I was very impressed by this picture when I first saw it as I’ve never had such a picture stimulate my mind in such a way. I wish there was more “art” out there like it. If I am correct beauty stimulates the intellect and has three things harmony, radiance, and wholeness. There is so sin in beauty is there or nudity when there is no lust?

I think people can fool themselves into thinking nude pictures are just for artistic beauty, but it’s really more than that. I’m not sure if you’re a guy or not but if you’re a strait guy would you think a picture of a nude guy could be beautiful in an artistic way? That’s one way you can test yourself. If the nude pictures you think are just for artistic value are always only of women, or the sex you are attracted to then there’s your answer. 😉 It’s more than the artistic value you are interested in.

Well if you visit the old cathedrals in europe you might be shocked there are images of nude people there, nudity can be art and yes it can also be pornography.

When it is one or the other indeed depends on what the image is trying to convey to you.
Nudity for nudity;s sake might not be appropriate if it triggers in you concupiscence.

It’s playing with fire my friend. The worst evil comes from the best intentions. While that is an extreme saying for what you are mentioning, it is nonetheless applicable. Keep your eyes on Christ and you’ll be fine 👍

I think you phrased your post well. Obviously there is no sin in beauty, neither in appreciating nudity as a reflection of God’s creation of the male & female body.

Jesus said…"the flesh profiteth nothing " the fact your thinking about it being right or wrong might bring into play. Satan starts off with just a little here and a bit there and before you know it, your watching porn and wondering if it is wrong.

I have to chime here. Being a former art student who had to draw nudes in class I may have a different interpretation of your dilema, if I can call it that. The human female body is by far the more interesting subject than the male. IMO And being a woman, I can assure you that I don’t have any leisbian tendencies; just an appreciation of the wonder of God’s creation. Do I think you might be confusing lust with intellectual stimulation? I’m sure I don’t know but it’s nice to see a guy with a healthy appreciation of this wonder. 😉

How about the Sisten Chapel at the Vatacan? 🙂 :):gopray:

I’ve drawn nudes as well in art class but I see this as a mistake now. The media has hyper-sexualized everything. There is even partial nudity and implied intercourse on TV.

There was a time when nudity might have been an appropriate part of certain types of art. Today, too many have gone for the pornographic. Simple beauty matters little regarding the human form.

And the word “art” excuses nothing. It is not an impenetrable barrier through which no criticism can pass. The mass media is encouraging as many as it can to become insensitive to extreme violence and graphic depictions of human sexual activity. As far as individual nudes, contemporary artists generally don’t know what a woman actually looks like or portray women in the most demeaning ways they can think of. Human dignity requires human decency. They wanted to do away with subtlety, and they have - for too many.

Peace,
Ed

Interest in nude photos can represent ‘body worship’ via ‘body adoration.’

I apreciate the responses so far but no one has actually taken up the definition of “beauty”. I will ask, what is wholeness, radiance and harmony? Is this found in the human body? If so I think it would be beyond lust and fetishes and such things.

What do you mean? As an artist that the female body is more interesting than the male? This might help me understand beauty and lust so I can see them and appreciate beauty and avoid lust. The ultimate goal. I understand as you say you have no lesbian tendancies. You could probably really help me understand the two. Lust Vs Beauty. In all things including the human body.

I dunno… this is kinda strange. its like you’re falling in love with a pic.

I am not wondering if porn is wrong. I am wondering what porn is. What beauty is; in the body and all things. A cube for example. Is that beauty? In what way?

Not falling in love. Trying to discern.
I like pinup girls too, for airplane nose art, or on a tool calendar in the garage. is your wife or mother cool with it hanging in the living room (suitably framed, of course)?

is the pic on black velvet? that makes a huge difference. only pix of dogs playing poker or Elvis should be on black velvet.

I admit the guy in me likes calendar girls too. But these pics do not stimulate intelligence. I live with my mother and I keep and SI swimsuit calendar that I write apointments on. It has no bearing on my question and I don’t think I see harmony, radiance, and wholeness. It’s not framed it’s laying on the floor with a book on it. Your not understanding me at all.
