My guardian angel seems to be fated to be my greatest friend for eternity, so I want to gain a true relationship with my angel. How would I do this?
Yes. Frequently ask your guardian angel to lead you. Always thank God for your angel.Firstly, educate yourself. Most people are poorly catechized in the realm of angels. Peter Kreeft’s book Angels (and Demons): What We Know About Them is a good start.
Next, keep on asking its intercession and talking to it. Keep on keeping on.
Where does this desire you have come from? Are there any books on Angels you have been reading recently? My guardian angel seems to be fated to be my greatest friend for eternity, so I want to gain a true relationship with my angel. How would I do this?
True, they are spiritual, just like God is spiritual, and just like our souls are spiritual. We like personal relationships because we are persons, individuals with rational natures.i don’t think guardian angels are interested in “personal relationships”. they are spiritual beings with no emotions who are commanded by God to perform a certain task and will obey
a simple prayer of acknowledgment and thanks is really all you need to do
How on earth can you know this? This is yet another occasion of guesswork and “whatever you think must be right.”They do not have emotion, and neither does God (which is power of bodily creatures), but they do have wills, which is where Joy is found.
“for eternity”?? The Church only teaches that we have a guardian angel with us from conception to death. It does not teach us that a guardian angel is with us in Heaven. Their function is to protect us and guide us to Christ. If we die in a state of grace we are saved and no longer have a need for a guardian angel. My guardian angel seems to be fated to be my greatest friend for eternity, so I want to gain a true relationship with my angel. A completely sensible reply.“for eternity”?? The Church only teaches that we have a guardian angel with us from conception to death. It does not teach us that a guardian angel is with us in Heaven. Their function is to protect us and guide us to Christ. If we die in a state of grace we are saved and no longer have a need for a guardian angel.
CCC 336 From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God.
Also the Church does not teach us that one guardian angel is assigned to one human. People tend to assume that is the case but the Church does not know. They may or may not be assigned to several or many humans.
You might try reading Catholic theologians, such as Thomas Aquinas (Summa Theologica) where you will find the difference between Will (the place of love and joy, which are active rather than passive, and therefore not actually emotions) and Sensitive Appetites (the place of emotions or “passions” where there is corporeal transmutation). How on earth can you know this? This is yet another occasion of guesswork and “whatever you think must be right.”
God does not have emotion? What about love?
Is not Joy an emotion?
Come on. Stop using platitudes.
While I agree that guardian angels don’t exist to be our friends, I question your view that they don’t experience emotions. Satan isn’t a guardian angel, but as a fallen angel he experiences hate and wrath. Why can’t angels experience love, devotion, and other such pious sentiments toward God?i don’t think guardian angels are interested in “personal relationships”. they are spiritual beings with no emotions who are commanded by God to perform a certain task and will obey
a simple prayer of acknowledgment and thanks is really all you need to do
Yes, a bridging.First let me say this: I am always a bit skeptical when people seem to be overly fearful of things like Ouija boards, or Tarot cards, or yoga, or meditation which are essentially meaningless and powerless unless we give them power over us.
But to delve into angels has always made me uneasy. Maybe it’s because my Catholic knowledge doesn’t include much about angels, so it seems like, in that case, you really are trying to bridge the supernatural.
