Doctors all swear the Hippocratic oath. There was a case where they refused to treat an individual like this who had ovarian cancer. Absolutely refused, he died as a result. It’s chronicled in a documentary called ‘Southern Comfort’.
Failing to treat cancer, whomever the victim, is wrong and violates the oath. That’s not what this case is about. I’m sure this couple can find some very “progressive” doctor or midwife (they seem to way outnumber the conservative religious ones) to deliver their baby (if there is one). Should all docs be forced to perform abortions and sterilizations and sex change operations and breast enhancements (done for vanity purposes only, not due to masectomies) against their religious beliefs and/or consciences? We’re not talking an emergency life or death situation, here.
The last pregnancy was an ectopic one, which can be a life or death situation.
And that was obviously treated, and if the photos are true, this pregnancy is obviously not ectopic, given the size of her belly, so it’s not the same situation at all. They can find a progressive doctor or midwife, Oregon’s a very liberal progressive state, there must be dozens, if not hundreds of them.
Why wouldn’t they be true? This is hardly the first female to male transsexual to have a baby. I’m still trying to figure out why this particular one got into such a big story. It’s happened many times before, I know several of them that have had babies, usually due to similarly situations as this one with their partner being sterile etc.
I am not sure about the previous cases, but in this case it seems Thomas Beatie broke the story by writing a first person account which ran in the national gay publication The Advocate.
Not necessarily by choice. Transsexuals for awhile, though it is changing, have been outcasts from the gay movement. This might have just been the first time the editorial staff bothered to accept an editorial on the matter.
