Prayer to Saint Monica
Saint Monica, you know the struggle of those who seek to live by faith. By your example and prayers, you led your husband and your son into the way of faith. The difficulties of life did not diminish your confidence in God or your prayer. Pray for me and for all whose faith is tested that we may trust in God and not be overwhelmed or discouraged by lifeās bruises but may live in faith and proclaim your generous love in word and deed. Amen.
That sounds like a fantastic idea!!! Iām inThere are nine days until the feast of Saint Monica (August 27). Perhaps all of us who have been following notsmartās (Monicaās) story can join in a novena for Monica, her husband, and daughter.
If that is the case why donāt your just baptise each other. A baptism does not require a priest to be valid. ANYONE can baptise as long as they are intending to baptise. This morning my husband called me from work. He said he found the ideal situation for us all. One of his coworkers has a Pastor that was a Catholic Priest. My husband told me, he did some research and a Catholic Priest is always a Catholic Priest no matter what. Apparently, this Priest left the Priesthood because he wanted to get married. So, my husband thinks I should get in touch with him, and get us (5yr old and myself) baptised by him and skip all the ācatholic junkā that will be required if I go the normal route.
I was wondering where he got this āresearchā and it hardly sounds correct to me. Does anyone know what he is talking about? It sounds sneaky, and probably sinful to do that.

Perhaps the OP has a better ability than you to recognise sarcasm. no?Huh? Why would you give her that advice?
Bad bad bad idea, unless thereās certainty of death.
You really need to change your username. ānotsmartā just doesnāt cut it! You are very smart! May God smooth your path. This morning my husband called me from work. Uh-huh. You have a lot on your shoulders right now. Turmoil. If itās any comfort, you are not the first. Seek good counsel from a holy priest. They are often skilled in the pastoral issues involved in these things. My head is exploding.![]()
Sarcasm is more difficult to detect in print than it is in person. I have a hard enough time recognizing it face to face! (Iām very gullible.Perhaps the OP has a better ability than you to recognise sarcasm. no?
Sarcasm? seriously out of place on this thread.Perhaps the OP has a better ability than you to recognise sarcasm. no?
wow.Notsmart (sorry, I have a hard time with your name you canāt be notsmart) anyway, hereās my story and experience. My husband considers himself agnostic. He really didnāt care if we got married in the church or not so we did. Admittedly I was an uninformed Catholic and felt that hey, I did my part I got married in the Church so that was all I needed to do. My marriage was a very secular one for years. Finally the Holy Ghost hit me over the head with a sledge hammer and I got my butt back to the Church. This turned my husbandās world upside down. It was rough for a while. He still does not attend Mass with us and still is obstinate in his refusal to even acknowledge God, but he has accepted my devotion to my faith.** I was told by a very good preist during the rough spots that if I put his needs above those of Godās then I validate his belief that he is more powerful than God and has no need of Him, but if I show through my actions that God is so importantant to me that I will not hide or put off my devotion to Him, then I demonstrate Godās true power. **I guess what Iām saying is that God will bring you to Him and maybe he is using you to bring your husband too. I heard a priest also say that even if someone rejects God his whole life, if he repents and makes an honest an request to be brought into Godās family even on his deathbed, he may find his salvation.
If no one has recommended looking into St Monica, I would look to her (Monica is my confirmation name for a reason. I wish you the best and hope that you will hang in there for you, your daughter and your husband.

What a beautiful story! Thanks for sharing. Children are amazing, in their trust, and simplicity, and spontaneity, and humility. They donāt get all complicated, they just speak the truth as they see it. It reminds me of Jesusā words:Tonight was a good night. My daughter asked daddy to pray with her to tell Jesus she is happy. He gave me that look, of confusion mixed with sadness, but ultimately joined her. ⦠She told him Amen means āyou really mean itā
I had to google Amen. And what it really means.
Sheās so cute!
He actually was disturbed by it. I think he googled it too.![]()
Perhaps God will use your daughter to lead your husband to Himself. At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, āWho is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?ā He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, āAmen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.ā (Matthew 18:1-4)
Three a.m.? Three oāclock is the āhour of mercyā ā OK: thatās 3:00 p.m. ā but on the other side of the world, it IS 3:00 a.m.!Monica, and all my friends here, I woke up at 3:00am to find these encouraging words.
Yes, wow.
I have been off line, because I am really focusing on the parts of the advice the priest gave me (that seem to be more time consuming each day, but they are an adventure)
I just felt like saying thank you, and I missed you for all sorts of questions I have had but, I can come back and ask. I hope so.
