Dear friends in Christ:
Do you believe Christ founded only One Church based on One Faith?
Do you believe Christ founded only One Church based on One Faith?
I am in full agreement with that opinion.I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church and that all who are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are members of that church.
It is a matter of great sorrow that all of us who are members of that church don’t act as though we are united within it.
Yes, yes I do. One Church, with a hierarchy of Deacons, Priests, Bishops, founded upon Peter, continued through the centuries right up to Pope Benedict XVI today.Dear friends in Christ:

Except that we are not ONE. We differ in beliefs and practices. Many churches do not even recognize the sacraments, most especially the Eucharist. There is only one that I know of (and I included Eastern Orthodox in this) that can claim they are Apostolic and that would be the Catholic Church. There is only one that I klnow of that is universal (catholic) and that would be the Catholic Church as well. I know many Protestants that I would consider “holy”, but the Catholic Church derives its holiness from its founder and head; Christ.I believe in one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church and that all who are baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are members of that church.

It is not an opinion, but a sad fact! There was no need or any real logic to split Christ Body into thousands of different sects.Yes, yes I do. One Church, with a hierarchy of Deacons, Priests, Bishops, founded upon Peter, continued through the centuries right up to Pope Benedict XVI today.
All others are (usually) well-meaning schismatics who have fragmented the Church Christ began.
I know that will sound offensive, but it is only one man’s opinion

Does anyone other than me notice that this thread became a chance for Catholics to jump on Protestants, despite the innocent sounding question that started it?A question for protestants…
debatable. It is not an opinion, but a sad fact! There was no need or any real logic to split Christ Body into thousands of different sects.
You make a good point, however, this is a Catholic fourm and most of us have only responded to the non-Catholic posts. I will agree that a greater amount of chairty is always in order.Does anyone other than me notice that this thread became a chance for Catholics to jump on Protestants, despite the innocent sounding question that started it?
To my Protestant friends, there is no way you could have answered this question without being attacked. I am one Roman Catholic who is very sorry for that.
By the way, as long as the fundamentalist fringe of the Catholic Church continues to attack Protestants, they should not be surprised that the fundamentalist fringe of the Protestant Church will attack Catholics. Were we to sit down and talk like true brothers and sisters in Christ, we might find that we are truly ONE CHURCH with a lot of misunderstandings among us.
I am one very happy Roman Catholic

with both Catholics and Protestants
who loved and served our Lord.

lol, nope. I just have a problem where I dont like to keep my trap shut, even when I shouldFidesSpesCarita, the OP was a question asked of schismatics. Do you have an announcement to make?
You are correct in stating that this thread was pretty much an obvious baiting tactic. I disagree with you on some points (fundies vs. fundie cath’s for instance, I think the fundies will go after us regardless of what we say to them), but I understand and empathize with your point.Does anyone other than me notice that this thread became a chance for Catholics to jump on Protestants, despite the innocent sounding question that started it?

Yeah, it is. I disagree with it, and my reasons dont need to be extrapolated here, but you could make the argument that it was necessary for the correction of the Church.debatable.
Matt,I have always liked the way the Catechism of the Catholic Church sums up this teaching:
870 “The sole Church of Christ which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, . . . subsists in the Catholic Church, which is governed by the successor of Peter and by the bishops in communion with him. Nevertheless, many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside its visible confines”(LG 8).
Thank you for posting such a kind and thoughtful comment and showing me a side to Catholicism that I hoped was there.Does anyone other than me notice that this thread became a chance for Catholics to jump on Protestants, despite the innocent sounding question that started it?

Thank you for your kind words. I was a Protestant Pastor for 45 years. Through study and prayer, I was drawn toward the Roman Catholic Church through the years. I probably would have converted sooner had it not been for a few very loud and unkind Catholics who were trying to lead me faster that the Lord was leading me. They did not want to give me enough time to understand what God was doing in my life. Can I ask if you were born a Catholic or if you are a convert?

Wow, that’s a remarkable story and very encouraging too. I’m glad you’re happy. Thanks for telling me.Thank you for your kind words. I was a Protestant Pastor for 45 years. It was hard to convert at a time when the Roman Catholic Church was in the middle of a terrible sex scandal. Thank God for some kind Priests, Religious and laity who understood me and loved me. They accepted me as a brother in Christ long before I was Confirmed into the Catholic Church.
Now I am very happy in the Catholic Church. I pray that God may give you that same JOY as you follow Him.
You will note that I referred to the church in the singular. All who are baptized are members of the one church. The Catholic Church itself acknowledges as it accepts as valid baptisms performed in other church bodies.Pastor, dear friend in Christ,
You are free to beleive it but yur position is NOT support by the Bible.
Please re-read in it’s intended historical and precise application; Matt. 16:19. That dear friend is Very clear.
Jesus Speaking to 1st. person [singular] St. Pter and His Catholic Church! Matt.16: 19 "
Jesus] ive you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

OKWe may not agree on what constitutes faithful membership in the one church but we are all, through our baptisms, part of it.
Yes.Dear friends in Christ:
Do you believe Christ founded only One Church based on One Faith?
