I asked about abortion. Your response seems to say that abortion is, "You’re talking about doctrine, dogma and discipline.’???
Did you miss what I said?

You’re talking about doctrine, dogma and discipline. 🙂
The CC’s teaching on abortion is called a doctrine.
Any teaching on faith or morals is called a doctrine. A dogma is a specific doctrine that has been formally defined.
Discipline has to do with governance or practices of the Church. Or, as Br. Rich, SFO stated: Discipline is man made Church law that is always reflective of Doctrine.

No hate; just questions that an inquiring mind has and would like an answer.

Are you telling me that eating meat on Friday was not considered a sin in the 1950’s and 60’s?
Different time. The matter is discipline.
Catholics are not permitted to marry outside of their faith without a dispensation.
Catholics are required to fast and/or abstain from meets on certain days. Catholics are strongly encouraged to fast and/or abstain not only on Fridays but even more frequently than once per week.
Catholics are not permitted to used contraception.
Catholics are not permitted to get sterylized.
Catholics are not permitted to marry same sex.
Catholics are not permitted to receive the Eucharist if not it the state of grace.
Catholics are not allowed to engage in self impurity or with others.
Catholics are not allowed to divorce and remarry.

There are many things that Catholics are allowed and not allowed to do. The same is true with all Christians. When I was a fundamentalist I would never miss a worship service or bible class without being really sick. Was it a sin? No. But it was highly frowned upon. Did it used to be a sin if we were supposed to fast and did not? Yes, because of Church authority. But there were always exceptions. Many Catholics were suppedly taught they can not study or read the bible. But that was a sinful heretical movement brought about by fear Catholics would be proselytized by non-Catholic Christians. I know. I used to be the Protestant that proselytized Catholics.😉 …knowing they typically could not quote scripture the way I can. I’d like to point out that even Jesus told his disciples to do as the teachers of the law and the pharisees say not as they do with reference to them sitting on the chair of Moses…Math 23.

The practice of self mortification goes all the way back before Christ and carried on through Christ’s life and after. It is by the Authority of the Church through the leaders that the majority of Christians meet on the first day of the week, Sunday, in honor of Jesus resurrection. I’ve read that they would meet in the Temple on the Sabbath and then in someones afterward, maybe even on Sunday. They were chased out of the Temple and then met in homes. Well it was not required for them to go the the Temple but to keep the Sabbath. We have example of the early Christians meeting on the first day of the week. Another passage says to not forsake the assembly. What does all of that mean? Somebody had to make a command decision on all of these things we, Christians, do.

Catholic during the same time frame you speak of were also taught that non-Catholics go to hell, period. But that was a modern day heresy under a priest, who was excommunicated after refusing to stop teaching the heresy. But that group still exists, unfortunately. There is an official Church teaching. The interpreters that are not faithful will twist words like Protestants and make it mean what they want. That is called dissent. The world is full of dissenters.

Not practicing some sort of abstention on Fridays is still a sin.

THANK YOU!

That’s what I’ve been pointing out. I thought Hisalone got banned some time back for being uncharitable. But maybe I got him mixed up with someone else acting the same way. Ex-Catholics usually make the worst anti-Catholics. You’re right. Anti-Catholics hate Catholicism more than they love Christ. This is the really sad part. At least Rev_Keven remains charitable.

Piffle.
Pshaw.
Pfui!!!
[/sign1]

That’s baloney.
I pick up things all day and into the next, without worshipping them.
I ask for prayer from friends & loved ones all the time, too, & I am most certainly NOT worshipping them.

You’ve got a wee bee in your bonnet, laddie, and it’s going to keep buzzing in your ear until you chase it out and listen to people, instead of trumpeting your same nonsense over & over.

The Word IS God. (Check St John’s Gospel, yean; unless they’ve:rolleyes: left it out of your Bible).
Places the Bible higher than His Name? Shame on you!! The Bible depends upon God Himself for its very existence.
The very fact that you would make such a wicked, rash, & ill-advised statement, simply says to me, that you are one of those :(sad, confused people who hates Catholics more than you love Jesus Christ!

I don’t think so. Seeing I asked for your opinion about abortion, what part of what I was talking about was not doctrine?
I thought you were asking whether the teaching on abortion was a doctrine or a “practice” (which I thought was your word for “discipline”). I was trying to tell you that the correct terminology is doctrine, dogma and discipline…and that our teaching on abortion was considered a doctrine.

So if I misunderstood your question, could you re-phrase?

No need. I pretty sure I understand. I think originally I wasn’t clear that I was refering, in part, to another post.

Every time I pick up the rosary I am going to God through His Mother. Considering He chose to come through her to us, and He does not ‘change’, this is perfectly acceptable. The rosary is absolutely Christ-centric. Everything about it has Christ as the ultimate aim. Even the Hail Mary (which is taken directly from Luke 2) has as the ‘pivotal aim’ of the prayer :the fruit of (thy) womb, JESUS.

God does not ‘separate’ Himself from Mary (or from us); why would we attempt to pull Mary away from the Lord whom she bore and with whom she is now eternally joined in Heaven?

Where exactly do you get the “God places his bible higher than his name?” What a strange statement. And NOT one I recall from Scripture. This must be a man-made teaching you’ve chosen, His.

BTW, excuse me. . .Other posters had used “her” in speaking of you. If you’re a man, my apology. As a woman with a ‘neutral’ user name, I don’t get annoyed when I’m addressed as ‘him’ or ‘sir’ but I do inform people that I’m ‘feminine’ so that they will know in future.

Well, of course, if Martin LUTHER said something, you have to accept it because he said it in the Bible. . .no wait, that isn’t right. . .

So you want to claim ‘bible alone’ (which isn’t Biblical anyway) but you quote Luther as an authority AND you make out of the blue statements about how God put his Bible 'higher than his name". . .

That is still one of the strangest sentences I have ever seen. Where DID You get it?
This is where all Catholic polemics breaks down. If Jesus were alive today (He is) and walking the earth (He is) and Mary was following Him around in His ministry (she is not for she can be in only one place at one time where Jesus can be in all places) Catholics would say Im going to Mary so I can meet Jesus but they stay with Mary. Instead of sitting at Jesus’ feet learning from the Master they continually turn to Mary (not all Catholics thank God) and sit with her rather than with Jesus. Jesus paid the price that we can go boldly to the throne of grace. Would you ignore such a high price?
Luther lived at a time where tradition and ecclesiastical authority was placed above the word of God. Luther restored the word of God to its rightfull place.

Psalm 138:2
I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
** For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.**

LOL! Since there were no “non-Roman Catholic Christians” at the times that those documents were written, to whom do you think they were being addressed?
Actually that quote was made by Metamorphoo whom I was quoting

EXCUSE ME? Restored the Word of God? Wow! You mean by ADDING words to the Word of God and wanting to remove books, Luther restored it? Yeah restored it by putting words in the mouth of God in order to suit his own doctrines. You brag about that farce? :ehh:

The CC has always taught, “Outside the Church there is no salvation.”

Nothing more; nothing less.

It’s been the constant teaching of the CC.

What is your pastor’s teaching on this, Hisalone?
What has changed is the RCC teaching of what “outside the church” is. Post Reformation to Vatican ll “ouside the church” was outside the Roman Catholic Church

The Bible itself says NOT to ignore the traditions handed on to us. As far as quoting Scripture, we can quote all kinds of scripture. One scripture tells that the pillar and ground of truth is…(wait for it…)…the CHURCH. Not Holy Scripture but the Church. Just think about that for a moment.
We Catholics do not worship Mary. We do not just “sit with” or “stay” with Mary over Jesus. But we do ask her to pray for us. Do you ever ask your church friends to pray for you? Why wouldn’t you ask the Mother of God to pray for you as well? The more the merrier.
Brother, we do go to the throne of grace…the literal throne of grace at every Mass. Believe me, you’re missing out.

He says he is and spent 6 months in the Catholic seminary before the big switch to an oppositional fundamentalist church, oppositional meaning there is alot of fuel to protest Catholicism around there…he says/she says…I don’t know for sure what is true and not. Life is full of surprises.

I would like to know Hisalone’s denomination.
Kathleen I am of the same denomination as Peter, Paul James and John 😉
Im nonDenominational.

Unbelievably, His continues to make the same old tired contention that prayer (simple communication) to Mary somehow ‘detracts’ from prayer to Jesus.

Luckily Catholics are not so silly.

Is Mary somewhere separate and away from Jesus? (Please supply me with chapter and verse from the Bible that says that all those who have died in Christ are apart from Him).

Is Mary worshipped as God? Do we sign ourselves in the name of the Mary? Do we say at the consecration that MARY offered her body and blood?

Does Scripture speak of saints? Does it speak of the prayers of the saints being offered in heaven? How can the prayers of saints be ‘heard’ in heaven and WITNESSED BY THE ELDERS if nobody but ‘God’ can hear? How come the elders hear? Who are the elders? They aren’t God.

How did Moses and Elijah speak with Christ, and were heard as well by Peter, James and John, if people in heaven are just ‘sleeping’ somewhere and unaware of what is going on. Moses and Elijah spoke with Jesus about HIS PASSION. . .because they KNEW about it. How does that happen if those in heaven are not aware of events on earth?

Honestly, poor Hisalone’s anti-Catholic bias and misunderstanding of Catholic teaching is sad.

He honestly thinks that he is somehow ‘saving God’ from the horror of being ‘neglected’ by Catholics in favor of those awful SAINTS and that Horrible MARY person. . .

Completely forgetting that the second part of the Great Commandment is to 'love your neighbor as yourself.

Lot of ‘love’ for the saints and Mary, I don’t think. “All generations shall call me blessed” said Mary. “Oh yeah she was blessed” said His. “Of course she was an ignorant vessel who had no choice, who was miserable, sinful, and even rebuked and chastized by her Son whom she obviously had no clue about and was no more capable of being a decent mother than a cockroach . .but hey, Scripture said something about her being blessed so if I read Luke 2 I’ve done all I need do about her.”

Somehow I don’t have the feeling that Jesus (a good Son who loved His mother) is really going to be thinking how ‘proud’ he is that Hisalone ‘stood up for Him’ and put His mother firmly into her ‘sinful, pathetic, ‘vessel o’ nothing’ state. . .

I know what you believe. I understand what the RCC teaches. I attended many a first friday vigil.
What you believe and what you understand is not what Jesus taught. It is not what the bible taught.
