Your allowing present day interpretations of words to cloud your understanding of what the bible writers meant when certain words were used.@Super Wimp, concerning Jesus, going off the top of my head I seem to recall Him mentioning “eternal” in regards to the afterlife, not to mention the Jewish tradition of no reincarnation.

Life eternal has nothing to do with the afterlife. The fact that we are in physical bodies is not what's separating us from eternal life. We can have eternal life while we are in our present experience.
Many jews in the past believed in gilgul which is a version of reincarnation.
