Why? Jesus said Simon was the rock, he didn’t say Rome was the rock. Certainly both Churches claim Peter as their own.😉
But, around the year 1150, the Eastern Church gave up its right to claim him. Remember it is “rock”, not “rocks”. Peter’s successor is in the Latin Church.

A question for non-Catholics: Let’s assume that the non-Catholic position is correct regarding the notion that the Catholic Church cannot teach infallibly (in a non erroneous manner) - regarding the teachings of Jesus Christ, and cannot infallibly (in a non erroneous manner) - interpret sacred scripture. Where could one go to find a church that does claim to teach error free doctrine regarding the teachings of Jesus, and does claim to interpret sacred scripture in a non erroneous manner - in other words - infallibly?
Go to any Regular Baptist Church

Keep in mind, the rules concerning proselytizing will be enforced.
Thank you

Since satan is so prevalant today I would do the opposite of what he claims. And since he claims the Catholic Church as his pet project today? Id go their. Must be for good reason he can stand that church.

And the gates of hell shall never prevail.👍

My answer may surprise you. I didn’t leave the Catholic Church so that I could find an alternate dogma by which to live (through which I would find all of life’s answers). I left because my personal faith in God is matched by no religious organization, and the truths I feel in my heart must be honored by someone. Therefore I choose to worship outside of dogma, and to forge a relationship with God in which I can at last find true peace and healing. Since I began this journey, my faith in God has deepened and become a source of strength and joy.

Nowhere. Such a church doesn’t have to, and probably doesn’t , exist. You’ll just have to live with the fact the nobody can guarantee that their answers are the correct ones.
Maybe you have do…

Hi there. The Bible reveals a people as His ‘remnant’ church who “keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.” (Revelation 12:17; 14:12.) This remnant is the final church of Revealtion 3:14-22, the **repentant **Laodicean church. Note that this church wasn’t rebuked for teaching error, but rather for what they did with it. They were asleep, content, and only lukewarm. It is this church that God tells us will be the special target of Satan’s malignant and hate filled attacks in these last days. (Revelation 12:17)
The search for truth has been going on for millenia, and God is certainly able and willing to provide it to those who do search with sincerity and full surrender. I have written a long article on the historical existence of a people God had always preserved who held the truth. It is quite a long article, so if you are interested prepare for what I pray you will find as an interesting read. You are welcome to comment at the site, and you will find it here.
God bless.
Brake, you forgot to answer the question. You don’t have to if you don’t want to…

Exactly…Of all the churches in the world, the church the anti-Christ hates the most would have to be the church established by Christ. That was a good answer. 👍

Light I am very happy for you and your decision but you really didn’t answer my question.

For me, it is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As others have stated, there are multiple other churches that claim to have the fullness of Truth and the correct interpretation of scripture.

I thought the common alternative was
The Rock = The Word,
or Christ’s teachings and the Gospel.are THE ROCK
No, the two common interpretations are that it was Simon himself or his faith, I’ve never heard that it was Jesus, although Jesus is the cornerstone.

Thanks for your honesty and for simply answering the question directly. 👍 Caprica what do you think the criteria should be for selecting a church in the world today, for someone considering Christianity.

Really like your Quote from St. Teresa of Avila. She is one of my favorite poets!

Near Los Gatos, California, there used to be a church called Holy City. It’s walls proclaimed, among other similar messages, HOLY CITY IS THE ONLY GATE TO HEAVEN. THERE IS NO OTHER. There were many other similar churches, media programs, and publications that I have seen, all proclaiming one sort or another of infallibility, even if only implied. Many, over the five+ decades of my life. The Roman Church is a champion at it by comparison.

I can’t speak to your conviction about the Catholic Church, even though I was an extremely devoted, well catechized, and proselytizing member for some time. But I know this about humans: up to a certain stage of spirituality maturity we will do absolutely anything to convince ourselves of their rightness, especially when there is little proof. As Burtrand Russell said “The most savage controversies are those about matters as to which there is no good evidence either way. Persecution is used in theology, not in mathematics because in mathematics there is knowledge, but in theology there is only opinion.” But this is stage of feeling one’s own, or one’s group, is the only possible right is normal. Some lucky folks work hard and outgrow that and move on to genuine devotion.

But Russell has an excellent point. We are so invested in making God in our own image and likeness that we will invoke God’s authority to bolster wars, crimes, inquisitions, intolerance, bigotry, and whatever is our personal wish, ultimately going back to some sense of infallibility, our own, or by association, the Church’s. But of course we pat ourselves on the back for being good and pure and conforming to Divine Will while we perpetrate those things. In a war, God is always on our side, as God is in politics and even for some in science.

Of course, there are sincere religionists of many stripes. They often believe that their reading of the Bible or interpretation of Jesus is THE only correct one, even if they don’t say it. But what, really, does it matter? Well, once you “know” you are right, you can stop looking and can become impermeable to uncomfortable considerations. You also tend to fall asleep. Few are as asleep as those busy being right.

But, even in the Church there is a safety net. It is called The Great Commandment. And there is its ally, the four forms of the Golden Rule. so, you can really really go for being right and infallible by having the Church “behind” you, or you can do some good for yourself and others and live as Love. That way you won’t have to worry about being right or not. Such a thing will never enter your mind. You will only see yourself in others, and how could you do harm to yourself? And if you are arguing with someone about this, you are interested in being right, not about what is good. And being Good has nothing to do with religion, as God has nothing to do with religion. Only religions think they are about God. Actually, they are about belief and faith. And those are only the first steps. But you will do well. Just Love and learn.

I am a former non- Catholic.

I never was a Catholic, but have Catholic leanings. So, I have the former non Catholic status for now.

Am not a Catholic now.

So, I am not a former Catholic, or a Catholic now.

Could you re-phrase your question so I can answer it? I am wondering if I can reply to this or not.

Only by sowing your $10,000 seed to my TV “ministry” can you hear infallible truths spoken!

The holy spirit is not guiding the church of Matthew 16, John 14 and 16, into all truth until the end of time? If I believed that I doubt I would be a Christian, but I certainly respect your decision. 👍
None of those chapters say anything about the Holy Spirit guiding the church. Matt 16 doesn’t even mention the Holy Spirit. In John the Holy Spirit is said to be sent to each of us, not to any church.

You agree that the Holy Spirit dwells in every Christian’s heart. The Spirit is in our heart to lead us to truth. A church can help us find the truth, but the Holy Spirit is the authority, not any church.

For the record, I’ve never attended any protestant church that claimed to be the sole vessel of infallible truth. If I ever found myself inside one, I’d make my way to the door as quickly and quietly as possible 🙂

I know that is the point of view of Catholics, but the chapters that he cited do not confirm that to be true. Matt 16 might be interpreted that way even though it says nothing about the Holy Spirit, but there are other reasonable interpretations.

The chapters in John say nothing about the church being the vessel of infallible truth. In those chapters the Holy Spirit is promised to dwell in the heart of each Christian.
