Yes, it’s all “vanity sizing”. The effect is even more startling if you go back before the 1970s, and into the 50s and 60s. As a teenager, I was extremely skinny, but tall and big-boned, and wore a size 14. If I had those same measurements today, I would wear a size 6. The petite gals who wore a size 6 back then would need a -2 today.Part of that deal is that they have made the regular sizes larger over the years, so they had to go below zero to accommodate the tinier sizes. The size 14 of 1970 is more like a size 10 today, so the size 2 of today would be like yesteryear’s size 6. I guess they sold more clothes making us full-figured girls believe that we were fitting into a smaller size. It’s nice to think that I wore a 16 in high school but only wear a 14 now, never mind that it’s 35 years later and I’m 30 pounds heavier!

Regarding today’s commercials, I hardly ever see them. The minute a commercial break begins, I grab the remote and switch the channel (if you’re concerned about switching to a channel that just has another offensive ad, then switch to EWTN).
I only ever watch the commercial if it’s something I want to see, like cat food ads with cute cats, or the GEICO cavemen.
