** How come in a democratic and Christian United States, Nativity scenes and public prayers are banned?
How come seventh grader Amber Mangum was forbidden to read a bible in the school cafeteria during her lunch period at the Dwight D. Eisenhower middle school in Prince George’s County, MD?
How come British Airways worker Nadia Eweida was fired for wearing a cross?
What led people into such “Christianophobia” and “religionphobia”?
I was in the mall the other day and the employees said “Happy Holidays”. I responded “You mean Merry Christmas, right”? One employee said “We are told to be politically correct”. I simply said, “Well, you can learn to be politically incorrect too.”.

I get very upset when these things happen…😦 **

There is a nativity scene in our courthouse square. And there will be a prayer at the basketball game I attend tonight.

Already dealt with. School policy is clear, as found in the Prince George’s County Public Schools handbook: “Students may read their Bibles or other scriptures, say grace before meals, and pray before tests to the same extent they may engage in comparable, non-disruptive activities.”

I thought you were asking questions about a democratic and Christian United States, not Britian?
I get very upset when these things happen…:
Maybe you need to lighten up and realize that
  • the United States was not created as a Christian nation, and is a Republic, not a Democracy
  • the Church ministers and witnesses AGAINST common culture and not for it
O+

I think America is slowly becoming secular or at least they still have a long way to go. There has never been a Christian USA to begin with, although many of its founding fathers were deists, and some others, Freemasons. It is said 16-17 American Presidents have been Freemasons, including the outgoing President.

With Evangelical Fundamentalists running their own Creationist Museum, and teaching error in science classes etc, i wouldn’t be surprised if this was a way to curb radicalism from spreading even further. Morever, America also has to think about their Muslim, Hindu and other religious groups citizens. If you are against Islamic imperialism, then i’m sure you’ll understand from your government’s perspective.

I get quite upset, too. But I also know that Stalin at his peak of power could not destroy the Orthodox Church. We have much to learn from our Orthodox brothers and sisters, and the sooner the better.
These things should also be a wakeup call for unity, perahps not in the doctrinal sense yet, but in the sense that we here in the west must learn to support each other, and stand shoulder to shoulder in the coming years. The anti-Christian secular humanists may attack the CC first, but they will not stop there.

Your question: A Religion Free Society Coming Soon?

My answer: No.

The religion of Christ (as the majority religion) is being “balanced” (with the attempt at minimizing to a minority) by the religion of the anti-God so-called “Atheistic Humanism”.

It is not atheistic. It is anti-“Christian God” (which is the super-set of the God of Christianity-Judaism-Islam).

That is just in your area with the Nativity scene. you need to wake up here and smell the secularism. The little girl was FORBIDDEN to read the bible. Why would you come up with these rules of the school when it isn’t so?
Furthermore THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON CHRISTIANITY, read your history books. Even Christopher Columbus WAS A CATHOLIC who gave communion to his men before he set sail, and named his ship after the Blessed Mother the Santa Maria, (Saint Mary).

** How come in a democratic and Christian United States, Nativity scenes and public prayers are banned?

If a Nativity set is on public land and allow other religious or cultural scenes…for the most part they are allowed. I have no problem with people wanting to pray while in public, as long as I am not required to pray with them…REQUIRED TO PRAY…not want to pray…if it is a civil/public event, I don’t see any good in requiring people who do not share my beliefs to pray the way I would.**

How come seventh grader Amber Mangum was forbidden to read a bible in the school cafeteria during her lunch period at the Dwight D. Eisenhower middle school in Prince George’s County, MD?

I don’t know why she is not allowed to read a Bible…a misuse of school authority I would think. The Bible is allowed to be read a literature in public schools…at least here in the Great Northwest.

How come British Airways worker Nadia Eweida was fired for wearing a cross?

Don’t know…unless it’s a rule for everyone that no religious jewelery be worn…period…then she would be in violation of company policy.

What led people into such “Christianophobia” and “religionphobia”?

"Christians" and “religious people” I would think.

I was in the mall the other day and the employees said “Happy Holidays”. I responded “You mean Merry Christmas, right”? One employee said “We are told to be politically correct”. I simply said, “Well, you can learn to be politically incorrect too.”.

B]I am not offended when “Merry Xmas” or “Happy Holidays” are offered…I smile when “Happy Kwanza” and “Happy Hannakah” are offered…or “Happy Solstice”…I think we should graciously receive anothers greeting with joy.
I get very upset when these things happen…😦

Secularism has always been present in the United States. Where have you been?!?!?
The little girl was FORBIDDEN to read the bible. Why would you come up with these rules of the school when it isn’t so?
As I said - this was already dealt with. The vice-principal in the Prince George’s school system acted against school policy… and I quoted said policy. This is old news.
Furthermore THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON CHRISTIANITY, read your history books.
I did read history… which makes it pretty clear that Deists were among the Founding Fathers (as someone else here posted). At best, American is a Judeo-Christian nation. But to say it was founded upon Christianity would be revisionist and… simply untrue.
Even Christopher Columbus WAS A CATHOLIC who gave communion to his men before he set sail, and named his ship after the Blessed Mother the Santa Maria
Agreed. But Christopher Columbus was an explorer. He may have “found” America, but he wasn’t involved in its founding.

And I need to read history?!?!? 😃

Nothing can destroy Christ’s Church. We do not need to let the government do our job, nor be conformed by the world. We are Christians first, and Americans second.

True enough…

Getting the state out of education would be a good first step.

**Christmas is just that CHRIST-MAS, the birth of my Savior Jesus Christ. THERE ARE NO OTHER HOLIDAYS BUT CHRISTMAS, and Christmas being recognized as a National holiday with everything closed, doesn’t come close to Kwanza (never before had it), Hanukkah (nothing is closed from this), and Happy Solstice is an insult to our Lord.

It is what it is. CHRISTMAS, nothing else. The birth of Christ. nothing else.**

I don’t want to misunderstand you. Are you suggesting we abolish the public education system?

So you want to force private industries to wish their patrons ‘Merry Christmas’ and prohibit the salutations of any other holiday?

That’s a little, well zealous don’t you think (and not in an endearing way)?

What other holiday is there??? Christmas is a National holiday, what others are there? NONE.

It’s not necessarily being “politically correct;” It’s more like respecting the beliefs of others.

The U.S. isn’t really a Christian nation. You can choose to waste your time arguing against that, but keep America’s current diversity in mind and remember that we are not the only victims here.

There are many other holidays celebrated by Americans that are not federally recognized.

You didn’t answer my question.

Are you suggesting that we force private industries to conform to your awkwardly intolerant standard?

I don’t understand why you keep linking us to Book ads.

Do you have anything substantive that you’d like to share with us?

Also, what exactly in your opinion would entail the abolition of public education? Are you promoting the privatization of all schools (while implementing a voucher system) or are you suggesting that we devolve back into a laissez-faire system?

I agree with poster above me with all the Roman numerals. This is intolerant to an awkward degree.

I don’t know if a religion-free society is coming soon, but I do know that becoming upset or falling back on questionable assertions about the U.S. founding fathers’ religious stances is not an answer to anything. I don’t want people who do not believe in Christ to be forced to wish me a Merry Christmas, because what would that mean to them if they are forced to say it?

There is something to said for focusing on your own devotions, since you can’t control what other people do or don’t do. If other people do not want to follow the Lord, we can pray for them, but to become upset and angry will get in the way of the good we can do for them.

I don’t want to force anyone to wish me a happy Christmas either but if someone who obviously celebrates Christmas, because there is a ribboned wreath and a reindeer banner in his hatchback, thinks he shouldn’t mention that it’s Christmas he’s celebrating, I see visions in my head of Roman soldiers, Chinese soldiers, Afghani soldiers, busting a church, and I shiver. If he just doesn’t fel like saying it right now, OK. But if he thinks he’ll lose his job if he mentions the name of the main holiday of the “holiday season”, I have to wonder whether he actually would, and if so, who is next?

And so far, by the good grace of God, these have remained just such… visions in your head. 😉

Pundits like Mr. Bill O’Reilly (with his mythical ‘War on Christmas’ and all) do what all great conspiracy theory peddlers do: He feeds on such fears.

There is no evidence of a systematic and legal ridding of Christianity or Christmas.

I am more than open to being proved wrong.

With all due respect, I think you need to take a deep breath and pray for some peace in your mind, if you seriously worry about this. In the United States, anyway, it is not likely to happen. Afghani soldiers? Are you worrying about the Christians over there, or is this thread about the USA? Are we talking about a few different cultural contexts?

Also, plenty of non-religious people celebrate Christmas because the version of it that has been propagated in the secular media (that the non-religious are comfortable celebrating) is wholly devoid of religious content, so I do not think you are correct that anyone who celebrates Christmas should be logically required to mention that they are celebrating it. I don’t know about you, but my Christmas does not include ribboned wreathes and reindeer banners; however, I’m willing to grant that other peoples’ might.
