A selfish, but necessary prayer request

I just got a jury summons. I have to call to see if I have to be on a jury starting on the 24.
This came at a particularly bad time as I am Unemployed and need to get work. I already postponed it hoping things would improve, but I’m still in limbo.

If possible please give a pray that I won’t have to serve.

I think you get paid to serve so, to my mind, this could be a blessing in disguise.

Lord Jesus Christ, Divine Lawgiver, we adore Thee profoundly. We beseech Thy Provident Hand to attend pollylodges, both in her search for employment and in her summons to jury duty. Grant her suitable employment and, if called to be a juror, wisdom, prudence and a spirit of right judgment. Grant her an abundance of Thy Divine Grace so that these present sufferings may be beneficial to her and tend towards her sanctification. We make our prayer with confidence, glorifying Thy Holy Name. You do get paid, (although not much) and lunch is usually provided - but this is not usually the reason people are driven to serve.

It is a unique opportunity to make a very real difference in your community. You could be the difference in setting an innocent person free, or a guilty person punished. We often read headlines about juries making landmark decisions, or occasionally seemingly insane judgements when the truth seems obvious - based on what the press has reported to the public.

Juries are charged with the duty to weigh the evidence, judge the veracity of testimony, and occasionally decide if the death penalty will be used. If justice is something you value, if you have ever felt powerless against the will of large corporations, this may be the only time your voice will truly be heard, and your decision could make a huge difference in a stranger’s life.
 
Everyone gets to serve on a jury but me. It seems that when I get the call, they settle out of court. 😦

Polly - If you are receiving unemployment, they’ll probably subract the amount you get from your unemployment. Ask the unemployment people if you get a break for serving on a jury, because you won’t be able to look for work easily at that time.

When I was unemployed for weeks & weeks during a recession, the stress of looking & getting nowhere got to be too much - I went camping. It did me a world of good.

Maybe serving on a jury will be the sort of break you need.

Hi Polly, you just fill out a Statutory Declaration with your reason and post it off; the Courts/Government do not hold it against you at all.

I have only ever been called up once and could not do it at the time, filling in a Statutory Declaration and sending it off in time. Interestingly, they never called me up again. What I found interesting was that it was my date of birth (ie a court case to attend on my Birthday)! May be this is normal protocol; I never looked into it!

Please Dear Jesus Christ our Saviour,if it be Thy Will, could you Please provide the Courts, through Polly, to not attend Jury sitting, Amen. Could You please provide financially for Polly now and for Eternity, Amen.
