It is important because many Muslims believe that the Quran do not have a history because it exists outside of human history. Some Muslims say that the Bible is not authentic because it didn’ fall out of the sky - ironically, this is why I accept it and not the Quran. Seeing a pre-Othmanic Quran would mean that the Quran did evolve and develop like the Bible did. Of course, Muslims will still claim that the pre-Othmanic Qurans would just justify why they need to be extreme in their actions to protect the authenticity of God’s message.
