That was my first thought, too.Seemingly, traditional Catholics are living in the thought experiment proposed by the OP. So it would follow, then, that assumptions made about what the world would be like if VII hadnāt taken place should correlate with traditional Catholic families and communities.
Any Church document or teaching can be interpreted in a āheretical mannerā. One need only read the 2000-year-history of the Church to see that this is true.Vatican II has very confusing documents that can be read in a heretical or traditional matter which is a valid criticism
True. There was a desire for the EF among the faithful. And, the fact that this need is now being met is a good thing.I donāt argue this, but it may be said that that is happening now as a result of Summorum Pontificorum, and that the conditions before SP made such path-beating impossible.
Just being Devilās Advocate
I try my best to sympathize with this view, since I was raised well into post-Vatican II era. I have hardly any knowledge of Latin, etc. That being said, my appreciation of Latin liturgy is mostly a nod to our Catholic tradition and history. The Church has always guarded Her Liturgical Treasure but to throw the TLM away to very small isolated communities in dioceses and change Her disciplines which encourage modern man to Holiness.
Is it better, then, to have Catholic politicians who set aside Church teachings to get elected? Some of us were around when Jack Kennedy went to the Baptists and said, in so many words, āI will be Catholic in private, but I will not let the Church tell me what to do as Presidentā.
He made it very clear that the Church would not have a place at the table when it came to conversations about Politics Yes, we were in retreat from the world, if one listened to him.
When I was a kid, born in 1956, most people attending Mass didnāt approach for communion. This is a major change provoked in part by the V2 council. The idea of virtually everyone in attendance receiving is something relatively newthe lines for confession were not particularly any different than than they are now for the number of people attending Mass regularly -
Iām taking the OP at his/her word. Itās just a thought experiment.People just need to accept Vatican II happened.
Huh. I never thought of this as a big deal and Iāve tried it myself from time to time. Fasting from midnight to communion is a far bigger challenge for some. Still doable in many circumstances.I donāt know about you, but fasting for 3 hours before Communion? No thanks.
Holy cow, I hope that doesnāt happen. One of the most significant events in the last 100 years of Church history should never be a banned topic here.I think rehashing Vatican II (which may be a banned topic on here)
