The man who every day uses 2,297 keys to open the Vatican

Gianni Crea is the head of the claveros, the bearer of all the keys of the Vatican Museums. Every day, from 5 in the morning, he travels 7.5 kilometers to open doors, gates and even windows.

Gianni Crea must be one of the people who wake up the earliest in Rome to fulfill his work. At 3 o’clock in the morning he is already standing because two hours later he is in front of a huge wooden gate. In his hands he carries 2,797 keys. That do not open the doors of just any place. …This Italian has in his hands the keys of the doors of paradise. He is the bearer of all the keys of the Vatican Museums.

He is the chief of the claveros (clavarius, in Latin) of that famous place. The clavero is the holder of the 2,797 keys that open all the doors, gates and even windows of the most known and secret places of those Museums that take him to walk 7.5 kilometers to leave everything in conditions.

Many of them( the keys) are stored in an air-conditioned bunker in the Patio de la Piña. Why at a special temperature? Because the keys are hundreds of years old and you have to prevent them from rusting.

(This person has been doing this job for 20 years.
And there is one of the keys that weighs 1.102 pounds, half a kilogram.
Wow!)
