Like China, Vietnam had similar experience with religious persecution during the mandarin era. Many Catholic Vietnamese escaped to the forest. Our Lady appeared to them giving them hope and protected them from persecution. It is very common to see Catholic villages in Vietnam. The country is not homogeneous as you would think. Only in big cities would you see mixed neighborhoods.
