If you say so pope mfm…Seered conscience and eye scales do wonders!
We are all guilty of idolatry in one manner or another.
Who are you to judge another man’s servant?

Exactly! If you don’t say we worship statues, then why have you spent so much effort trying to prove our practice of venerating sacred images is unbiblical? If we’re not worshiping these images, then there’s no problem, right?
Imagine that…Exactly!
It sure looks like someone’s agenda is hanging out…![]()

I shouldn’t need to say one way or the other, if what I say though feels bothersome to you or maybe some whom read this then a deeper study and evaluation of what they’re doing may be in order. If you don’t say we worship statues, then why have you spent so much effort trying to prove our practice of venerating sacred images is unbiblical? Hey, you’re the one who started the thread, so perhaps you should ‘say one way or the other.’ Considering that you’re the accuser, it seems that it should be up to you to make your case.I shouldn’t need to say one way or the other, if what I say though feels bothersome to you or maybe some whom read this then a deeper study and evaluation of what they’re doing may be in order.
How do you know this???I know that my veneration of sacred images and my use of them in aiding my prayer life doesn’t even come close to idolatry (and thus doesn’t even come close to violating the principles of scripture). ?
Simple - I don’t attribute any of the characteristics of God to those inanimate objects. I don’t expect them to grant me any request, receive my prayers or save my soul. I don’t believe that these images bled and died for my sins, and I don’t believe that they play any direct role in my salvation apart from keeping my mind fixed on the things of God. I don’t place myself under the Lordship of sacred images. How do you know this???
Just curious
This is funny, the israelites didn’t expect the golden calf to grant anything, they didn’t believe it was anything other than a visual symbol for there feeble minds to connect with God…Simple - I don’t attribute any of the characteristics of God to those inanimate objects. you capitlized the word “God” … in the passages, it says “gods”.This is funny, the israelites didn’t expect the golden calf to grant anything, they didn’t believe it was anything other than a visual symbol for there feeble minds to connect with God…
Bad translation!you capitlized the word “God” … in the passages, it says “gods”.
‘MAKE US A GOD’ - you really think they never expected the golden calf to grant requests or anything? I don’t believe that for a second. This is funny, the israelites didn’t expect the golden calf to grant anything, they didn’t believe it was anything other than a visual symbol for there feeble minds to connect with God…
This coincides with the gold serpent God gave them, It was given to HIS people to show them HE was a living God! It taught them to focus on HIM and HIM alone… It was also shadowing Christs’ ultimate sacrifice and teaches us where 100% of our focus should be.
Try word searching bethel dan and the golden calves it talks more about it, I think it is from either isaiah or jeremiah…
Your own bishops even recognise this was meant to be YAHWEH!‘MAKE US A GOD’ - you really think they never expected the golden calf to grant requests or anything? I don’t believe that for a second.
American bishops thank you - MY bishops here in Australia recognise the notes of the NAB Bible for the crud they are and don’t use the NAB at all!Your own bishops even recognise this was meant to be YAHWEH!

It is not Aaron we are talking about, it is the people who later turned to gods not God.Bad translation!
It actually says elohiym which out of 2600 times 2350 times its meaning is God almighty. Plus God himself and Aaron says whom brought them out of egypt!

Plus Aaron said and tomorrow we’ll build an alter and have a feast unto the LORD

I have to agree with Lily (and her bishop) on this. There’s nothing De Fide in what you quoted, so it’s not dogmatic or doctrinal.American bishops thank you - MY bishops here in Australia recognise the notes of the NAB Bible for the crud they are and don’t use the NAB at all!
My apologies to my lovely American brothers and sisters, but most of you would agree with me. And by the way, Bible notes are hardly infallible teaching in any event!
Uh where did you ever get the idea that footnotes to a Bible reflected the teachings of the Church? There are ,I believe , only 5 verses the Church has made a de fide interperation of. As has been pointed out repeatedly to you Catholics dont beleive that Scripture is a puzzle book that contains the truth only for those smart enough to cipher it out… We we are not at all concerned about parseing every verse to come up with are own personal interperation of it…Your own bishops even recognise this was meant to be YAHWEH!
