Hi brothers and sisters.
I don’t know if any of you ever watch anything on “TBN”, but I sometimes do, and for the past week and a half I have been watching with disgust and growing anger the outrageous scripture twisting and falsehoods that are being broadcast on that network concerning supposed financial windfalls for Christians who observe the old covenant “Day of Atonement” (September 21/22 this year).

Televangelist Paula White, for example, has repeatedly these past two weeks had as her guest a Pastor (with incredibly bad hair) named “Dr.” Steve Munsey. Pastor Munsey has been informing the millions of Christians who tune in to TBN that God is saying that he is ready to pour out a “double portion” of all sorts of material blessings (financial blessings, winning of lawsuits, scholarships for your college age kids) upon Christians who will observe the ((Old Covenant’s)) Day of Atonement and send in a Day of Atonement “Offering” (financial, of course) to Paula White or to TBN itself. It would seem that God will pour out money on you if you donate to the other televangelists also, but only Paula White’s ministry and TBN itself have been mentioned either by name or flashing-logo & address, so far.

Never mind that Saint Paul solemnly warned the Galatians NOT to observe the old covenant’s Days, Seasons, Months, and Years, no, that is not important. Munsey and White have discovered that God expects Christians to observe the old covenant Day of Atonement.

And WHOSE FAULT IS IT that this wondrous information has been HIDDEN from us Christians for 2000 years???
Well, according to Munsey, it is the spirit of antichrist that has blinded us to the Truth. Munsey (( with Paula oohing and aahing nearly the whole time he is talking, claiming that her
“speeyirt” (spirit) is exploding with revelation as Munsey talks ))
Munsey asserts, get this,
that EMPEROR CONSTANTINE, at the Council of Nicea
in 325 A.D., FOISTED the GREGORIAN Calendar on the Christian Church in order to hide all the Feast Days ((of the Jewish calendar)) that God wants Christians to observe.
With an assertion like that, it is obvious that I am extremely curious as to where Munsey could have obtained his doctorate.
Constantine foisted the GREGORIAN Calendar on the Church at the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D.?? What libellous, slanderous nonsense.

Then, last night, Paul Crouch was interviewing Pastor Munsey on TBN from the “Holy Land Experience” theme park in Orlando.
Munsey repeated the same ridiculous claims that he has been making on Paula White’s programs for the past two weeks.
And every time Munsey mentioned the Day of Atonement
((financial)) “Offering,” the TBN address would flash on the screen. How convenient, and moreover, in my sincere opinion,
how utterly and outrageously UNSCRUPULOUS.

This is one of those extremely outrageous things that makes me want to shout, “Bring BACK the Inquisition !!”

Too many people will eat it up, not research it and spread it on to others out of TRUST and that is criminal. Kinda makes you wish there was a spiritual condom you could put on people to keep them from spreading the disease of utter falsehoods!

I dont know what to write to them about this without sounding uncharitable and they will discount anything that does not come in the form of money so, I doubt they care how many people complain as long as the green keeps rolling in.

I cant watch shows like that because they get me:mad: too.

I had a buddy who made a point of watching TBN just to see the ways they try to fleece money off their viewers. It’s funny how some of these ministers will wrongly accuse the Catholic Church of selling indulgences and then go off selling, I guess, money.

Twisting scripture might be harsh, perhaps we could more charitably say misinterpreting? There are those who twist Scripture and they do fit this mold, I agree. I’ll let someone else connect those dots:thumbsup:.

I’ve seen the tv programs (on TBN) of some of the other preachers that dosdog lists in his post, and the only other one that I have personally heard say things that I consider way out of line,
is Mr. Copeland, who is always sneeringly denouncing “religion” and “religious” people and **who once approvingly stated that some minister friend of his was having a crusade somewhere in Africa and, having no Wine to use for Communion, served the crowds PEPSI-COLA instead for communion **and that “thar was miracles all over tha place a’ happenin’ thar.” Something about him irks me.

I have to say scripture twisting rather than mere misinterpreting in the case I am speaking about in my original post, because Mr. Munsey even accuses Constantine of creating the **Gregorian Calendar **and shoving it down the Church’s throat at the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. THIS made me howl. The Gregorian Calendar is named after Pope Gregory the Great, who wasn’t even BORN in 325 A.D. That’s why I wonder where Mr. Munsey, who makes such crazy statements repeatedly about Constantine, could have gotten his doctorate. How can you get a doctorate and yet say such ridiculous things with a straight face?? Also, scripture-twisting because St. Paul clearly castigated and denounced the Galatians for observing the Old Covenant "days, seasons, months, and years" which Pastor Munsey is now saying Christians should have been observing all along. How can you not twist the scriptures when St. Paul is so clearly opposed to the Judaizing that Munsey and Paula White are advocating with their claim that God is going to dump tons of money into the laps of CHRISTIANS if those CHRISTIANS will only celebrate the Day of Atonement and make a Day of Atonement Financial Offering to the televangelists?? ((Munsey is basing his claim on his reading of JOEL 2:23-26, by the way.))

I wish to heaven that my cable company locally, Comcast, carried EWTN. TBN is for protestant prosperity gospellers ((except for Father Michael Manning’s 1/2 hour weekly program)) and hosts a “God’s News Behind the News” show with some self-styled “prophecy expert” named Joe Koevenbach (?) who bluntly accuses the Catholic church of being the Great Whore of Revelation and an apostate Church.

There is no other nominally-Christian television here in my part of Miami-Dade County available on cable except TBN, they don’t carry the Catholic EWTN, which is a shame. Years ago, our former Cable company carried EWTN until January 1st, 1996, when they abruptly dropped it, despite the fact that nearly a million Catholics live in Miami-Dade County.

I hope you’re not confusing a false version of the Charismatic movement with a legitimate one within the Church. JPII was an strong supporter of the Charismatic Renewal in the Church.

I’m not suggesting you are doing this, but to put a blanket statement regarding this type of Christian spirituality is unfair. The CCR has brought many people back into the Church, and has enlivened the faithful in their commitment. It’s likely I would not have gone from atheism, to Evangelical Protestantism, to Catholicism has it not been for some peculiar Holy Spirit moments.

By the way, I agree that it’s highly probable many of these people are frauds, if not many are being led by a spiritual force that’s not from our Lord. We shall know them by their fruits, and what we see are serious red flags (if not worse).

I saw that at 6 am yesterday!

My co-worker keeps “leaving” it on that channel. I think she does it for me. I talk about our faith alot!

I watched Paula White before talking about sending money and telling how much I should send, 66 dollars! She said she knows it is the sign of satan but if that is what God wants who is she to say otherwise!:eek:

I laugh alot at her show. It is a joke! Sad for those who buy it!

That is why we have to learn our faith,our history and teach our children and families and friends!

Those of us who know better will be held accountable for not sharing our faith with those who don’t know.

Isn’t God HELPFUL, in giving the televagelists a personal, direct
“word of Knowledge” about how much money He wants US to send to Paula White et al ?? .

By the way, Paula White has become good friends with
billionaire tycoon Donald Trump somehow. He even does promos for her upcoming conventions in New York. How this televangelist managed to worm her way into Donald Trump’s inner circle is anybody’s guess, but he fawns over her in his promo spots for her. Utterly amazing.

We only have 1 christian channel here in oz, its the ACC channel on the cable network.
The shows it has on are mainly anglican etc, there is only one catholic show i have found on it, which is a shame.
