And using words with fewer problems hurts less than using a word that gratuitously distracts from the main discussion. If the word is only a “synonym,” then the poster who originally used it could’ve chosen another word. It’s actually not a synonym, and the post should’ve chosen a better, more suitable word. Words may not hurt some people, but they hurt discussions, and a more prudent word choice in the first place would’ve prevented this digression altogether.
Using such a loaded word as a loosely-used “schizophrenic” adds nothing positive to the post and just gathers distraction, if not also worse things. This word choice doesn’t make the argument more true, or more loving, or more persuasive; it definitely doesn’t keep the discussion more on-topic.
I already wouldn’t use it here, on a forum that’s sympathetic to pro-life views; I couldn’t imagine using it on more of a mixed forum, let alone one with strong and hostile opposition. Promoting a pro-life message in the midst of our current world may be hard enough. When we promote such a valuable and needed message, let’s not make it unnecessarily harder.
