Abortion May Be Less Traumatic Than Childbirth, Study Finds

Quote from the article: “The study found that women who had an abortion sought psychiatric treatment at roughly the same rate before and after that event, while the incidence with which women who gave birth sought counseling increased dramatically after having a baby.”

So have they never heard of post partum depression or baby blues? It happens especially in non nursing women as the pregnancy “feel good” hormones vanish. Nursing make these hormones last longer and so you can feel depressed after you wean the baby but not immediately after birth. It can’t be compared to post abortion trauma which typically takes a couple of years to develop. As always, misleading studies.

Having been through an abortion 20yrs ago and still being haunted with grief and pain I find this absurd and offensive! I think that if their study would focus more on years following these events they would find the total opposite.😦

I wondered what the next “Astounding Revelation of Science” would be after the “Abortion Does Not Increase Mental Illness” revelation, and now I’ve got it.

What next?

“Murder less traumatic than putting up with your enemy, study shows.”

And to back it up, they can do a poll on 100 Al Queda members.

Criminy, and they say Christians are gullible.

I’m with you sister! Thanks for sharing. Those who defend abortion rights need to hear our stories. Here is mine silentnomoreawareness.org/greenville/
And those of us who are hurting despite what the study says, might find help here: rachelsvineyard.org/

Quote from article: “…This study is good news for those who believe we need to look at the hard facts around abortion rather than crafting policy based on emotions…”

So pro-lifers are just emotional wrecks I guess…

Seriously what a terrible article.

The amazing thing about statistics is that while its actually a good measure of popular opinion, it can be easily manipulated to conform to certain results. By adding or ommitting certain words or making very specific scenarios, you can instantly skew the results to favor a certain outcome. For example, if I go to bars and do an anonymous survey on drinking and driving, I can ask, “will you be behind the wheel of a vehicle one hour or less from having a drink?” That can instantly reflect a high percentage of people drinking and driving. But the reality of it is that maybe only 10% or less are those who are above the legal limit.

I am sorry you have suffered too. Thanks for the link to Rachel’s Vineyard, it is a wonderful ministry. I actually went this past November and I think it will eventually help me heal, as much as anyone can that is.
Peace be with you always.🙂

“Studies” such as this are nothing more than carefully crafted opinion polls designed to support the preconceived ideas of those conducting the “study”.

Study, hell. It is abortionist propaganda. Who funded it? Was it taxpayer subsidized Planned Parenthood? NARAL? People for the American Way? Common Cause? Was it a Soros-backed group?

I will not click on the link.

Whether it makes the mother ‘feel good’ or not, has never been directly at stake in the arguments for and against abortion.

This is because no person would admit that they ‘just felt’ like aborting a baby or that they aborted their baby because it ‘felt better’ than being giving birth, when attempting to justify their support for abortion.

The question is, why wouldn’t the pro-Abortion advocates be willing admit this into the arguments for-and-against abortion?

Once again, another bucket of filth from our media.

Abortion may be less traumatic than childbirth? Not for the child.

A recent study says that 80% of all studies are wrong 50% of time. Film at eleven.

Certainly not to the child that was killed!

And “may be”…invalidates any “study” in my mind. “May be” leaves the door open for any ridiculous conclusion one could contrive, doesn’t it?

Even IF the study was 100% accurate, it changes nothing. Abortion is still a physical nightmare for the child AND moral nightmare for the mother.

Define “traumatic”. Six months to a year of POSSIBLE post partum depression or first time mom anxiety and baby blues- or a whole lifetime of grief and regret? What a narrow-minded study.

Or are they saying traumatic physically. Yes, I suppose a full term vaginal birth or a c-section and recovery would be more physically “traumatic” than a early ‘medical’ abortion, generally speaking.

So bringing new life into the world is more traumatic than having it ripped out of you.

Makes sense.

Read the whole report.

What it actually says is that women who have abortions have more than twice the rate of trauma than women who give birth.

Read it; don’t accept the press release.

“Researchers compared the rate of mental health treatment among women before and after a first abortion. Within the first year after an abortion, 15 in 1,000 women needed psychiatric counseling --”

"Within the first year after an abortion, 15 in 1,000 women needed psychiatric counseling, similar to the rate seeking help nine months before an abortion. "Although first-time mothers had a lower rate of mental problems overall -

-" Wait a minute, what’s the point of the story, then? Study says abortion is not a mental health risk but that having a child is, and yet first time mothers had a lower rate of mental problems than first time aborters.

So how do we arrive here? Again, it’s the AP. “Although first-time mothers had a lower rate of mental problems overall, the proportion of those seeking help after giving birth was dramatically higher. About 7 in 1,000 women got mental health help within a year of giving birth, compared with 4 in 1,000 women pre-delivery.” Seven out of 1,000 who delivered sought treatment versus 15 out of 1,000 who aborted.

I mean the headline is wrong, the details of the story prove the headline is wrong, and the opening lead is wrong. But how about that opening lead? “Having an abortion does not increase the risk of mental health problems, but having a baby does.” But the dirty little secret is that having the abortion causes mental health problems, not leads to. That’s what they didn’t tell us.

WOMEN WHO ABORTED HAD TWICE THE RATE OF MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS AS WOMEN WHO HAD LIVE BIRTHS.
