This type of action and abuse by our Catholic Priests astounds me!?..why does this occur in the first place? Surely it has been in the limelight for many years now and seems to be something which has been occuring for how many centuries? How many innocents intrusted to our Order? I am afraid it is very likely not the end either and at that thought, my heart and soul twists in agony and sympathy…surely parents of the young should not be so trusting anymore…is it a wonder so many have turned from our Catholic Church? I do not know the answer to this problem…I look to how our societies handle the child and young adult abusers with their data bases and the ability to research those which live within our ares, so we may be aware and act accordingly to protect our loved ones…but, how could this ever work with the RCC? They say there is no cure…they say these men will repeat their offenses where ever they go! I do not know the answer…I wish I did so I could protect the RCC and our trust in her love and care of our young, but, clearly…my trust is broken and my suspicion will always be deep…I will pray for their souls.

It seems like there is some new horror story every day. Now they have a video documenting this disgusting filthy abomination being committed in front of the most sacred artifacts in Church.

How sad these accounts are about the activities of priests within the Catholic Church. How can the laity trust their priests anymore? How does one deal with this kind of pain to see you entire family being destroyed. This will be a major problem for the Catholic Church.

Pedophile priests are old, old news. I’m no longer shocked by these news items, as they are just more of the same. It is sad the hierarchy is so blase about the problem.

I think i am the same as the previous poster - i now realise that there always has been a clergy problem of some sort in the church - and by that i mean right from the beginning of the church down through the ages till now. There will be one going forward too unless we can replace humans with machines.
We dont follow any man - we follow the principles that Jesus laid down and the TEACHING of his church. If anyone involved fails to make the grade, on their concience be it.

The Brazilian TV show “Conexão Repórter”, hosted by journalist Roberto Cabrini and aired by SBT, the second biggest TV network in Brazil, presented last March 11, an investigation about pedophilia in Arapiraca, the second biggest city in the State of Alagoas, in Northeastern Brazil.
On the program, Monsignor Luiz Marques Barbosa, 82 years old, appears in a video having sex with a 19-year-old male, who was his acolyte. The video was made by another man, who also accused Monsignor Barbosa of abusing him.
Barbosa and other two priests, Monsignor Raimundo Gomes, 52, and Father Edílson Duarte, 43, who were also accused of sexually abusing teenagers, were relieved of their duties by bishop Valério Breda, of the Diocese of Penedo.
Arapiraca has a population of around 200 thousand people and it’s located 146km far from the State capital, Maceió. In a meeting last March 15, the church would define the names of the priests who would take on the parishes of St. Joseph, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and Our Lady of Good Counsel, coordinated by the accused. However, the names of the substitutes were not disclosed so far.
In the city of Arapiraca, the atmosphere among the Catholic comunity is a mix of disappointment and disbelief. “People are only believing in this scandal now because the images aired by the press are very strong”, said Ângela, secretarty of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Arapiraca.
The report is available, uncut, on YouTube and it’s also being sold in the region by street vendors.
Police in Alagoas said they are investigating the allegations. Two commissioners were designated by the Director-General of Police, deputy Marílio Barendo, to command the investigation. They are Bárbara Arraes, holder of the Bureau for Investigation of Crimes Against Children and Teenagers, and Maria Angelita, of the Bureau for Investigation of Crimes Against Women.
Bárbara Arraes said the families of the abused kids and teens are willing to file lawsuits requesting compensations for damages against the accused. Maria Angelita says the complaints against the priests are striking. She says police already has the videotape.
The accused refuse to talk to the press, to give their side of the story.
The Vatican admitted the existance of the complaints in Arapiraca. The spokesman for the Holy See, Father Federico Lombardi, talked about the case to a French news agency.
A lawyer working for the church in Arapiraca tried to coerce the teenager who made the video showing Monsignor Luiz having sex with a 19-year-old and also the teenager who appears in the video. His talks with both men were recorded by the TV crew, using hidden microphones, and filmed from a distance through the glass walls from the lawyer’s office building.
He also made a contract with the teenager who appears in the video, in order to pay a R$ 32,000 (US$ 17,887) debt with a credit card company. In exchange, the teenager wouldn’t say anything about the videotape to anyone, especially the press and authorities. It was implied in the report made by Roberto Cabrini that the lawyer didn’t know there were an extra copy of the tape.
