That’s a Pittsburgh pronunciation, Penelope St in Mt Washington is “Penna- LOPE” not Pen-el-ope- ee and Versailles is “Vur- sails” not Ver-Sigh like the French palace.
 
I suppose townies everywhere have their “mispronounciations.”

That’s the single-most reliable “tell” that a person is or isn’t from Pgh. 😄
I’ve never met a Pgher who doesn’t say Permannies and I’ve never met an outsider who doesn’t say “Pree-MAHN-Tees.”

That’s a beautiful church. Is it as pretty on the inside as it is on the outside?
 
Uh, no we don’t. Example is we say Ohiah! And we swallow the ing ending…a lot.

The parishioners at Immaculate Heart literally built the church themselves. They bought the materials and plans and erected it when not working at their regular jobs.

Of course that was in a different age, when ordinary men had more knowledge of construction, Sears used to sell homes in their catalogue, and before people were as worried about liability and personal injury.
 
Not to make light of any sort of abuse, but my grandfather used to laugh when he’d tell us about the one priest they had–who would patrol the area around the church with a bullwhip and chase away the kids he thought were up to no good. Which was all of them, apparently.
 
Is that the inside of the Church I think is so beautiful? It’s pretty on the inside too!
